259: Chapter 259 Cheap Military Supplies
The city wall was trembling.
It wasn't the tremor of artillery bombardment, but a symphony of death formed by the trampling of thousands of feet, the clashing of countless weapons, the roars of alien races, and the shouts of humans.
Lin Fan stood on the city wall of the Seventh War Zone's second line of defense, holding a megaphone in his hand.
"Attention everyone!"
Lin Fan raised the megaphone to his lips, and his voice, amplified by a Formation, spread across the entire section of the wall.
Veterans carrying ammunition looked up.
Machine gunners behind the embrasures turned their heads.
Suicide Squad members, covered in blood and leaning against the battlements to catch their breath, opened their eyes.
Everyone looked at the young Major General standing at the highest point.
"I am the Master of Wanbao Pavilion and the Minister of the Military's Special Strategic Department, Lin Fan."
Lin Fan pushed up the gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose, his eyes behind the lenses scanning every weary, desperate, and numb face below.
"I know what you're thinking."
"The defensive line is about to break, the alien races are about to invade, and you might die here today."
His voice was very calm, so calm it didn't seem like he was on a battlefield.
"I also know that the potions and equipment distributed by the Logistics Department are simply not enough."
"You have to wait in line for three days for a single bottle of C-rank Healing Medicine, and only those at the battalion commander level are qualified to apply for a set of B-rank battle armor."
"As for A-rank resources?"
Lin Fan smiled, his smile carrying undisguised mockery.
"Those are for the generals to save their lives; they have nothing to do with you grunts."
A dead silence fell over the city wall.
No one refuted him.
Because what he said was the truth.
A truth so cruel that people couldn't even muster the anger.
"But today is different."
Lin Fan took a white blind box from his tactical vest and held it above his head.
"The Myriad Treasures Pavilion Battlefield blind box Store is officially open."
"To celebrate the opening, and to thank you all for your blood and sweat on the front lines—"
He paused, his voice suddenly rising.
"Everything is 90% off today! Exclusive 'Protect the Nation' prices!"
"White blind boxes, original price 50,000, now only 5,000!"
"Blue blind boxes, original price 500,000, now only 50,000!"
"Purple blind boxes, original price 5,000,000, now only 500,000!"
"Limited quantity, first come first served!"
His voice fell.
The soldiers on the wall looked at each other.
"Five thousand?"
Normally, five thousand wouldn't even buy a decent bottle of D-rank healing medicine.
Now they could buy a blind box?
A blind box that might contain A-rank resources?
"Mi... Minister Lin."
An old veteran with a severed arm, crudely wrapped in bandages, spoke tremulously.
"Are you serious? Five thousand?"
"Absolutely true."
Lin Fan jumped down from the wall and landed steadily in front of the veteran.
He took three white blind boxes from his tactical vest and stuffed them into the veteran's arms.
"You're a survivor from the Suicide Squad just now, right? I saw it; you killed three trolls."
"These three are for you."
The veteran was stunned.
He looked down at the three palm-sized white boxes in his arms; a faint glow flowed over their surfaces, and they felt warm to the touch.
"Open them and see."
Lin Fan patted his shoulder.
The veteran swallowed and used his remaining hand to tear open the Seal of the first blind box.
*Sshhh—*
A faint green light surged from the box.
Within the light, a thumb-sized glass tube slowly emerged, with emerald-colored liquid flowing inside.
"This... this is..."
The veteran's hand was shaking.
He recognized that color.
"A-rank Regeneration Potion!"
There were only three in the Logistics Department's warehouse, strategic materials that required the War Zone Commander's personal written approval to be deployed!
"Drink it."
Lin Fan's voice came from the side.
"While it's hot."
The veteran didn't hesitate; he pulled the stopper and tilted his head back to pour the potion down his throat.
The next second.
The bandages on his severed arm were torn apart.
Flesh, bone, nerves, and skin grew frantically at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Ten seconds.
In just ten seconds.
A complete arm had grown back.
The skin was smooth, the muscles were full, and even the nails were intact.
"My... my arm..."
The veteran raised his newly grown arm, spreading his fingers and then clenching them, feeling the long-lost sense of power.
Tears welled up without warning.
It wasn't sadness.
It was ecstasy.
The ecstasy of finding life in a desperate situation.
"There are two more."
Lin Fan pointed to the remaining blind boxes in his arms.
"Open them."
With trembling hands, the veteran tore open the second blind box.
This time, a golden light surged out.
Within the light, a palm-sized metal amulet slowly descended, its surface engraved with complex defensive Formations.
"B-rank Amulet."
Once activated, it could form an energy shield on the body's surface, enough to withstand three attacks from anyone below the Grandmaster Level.
The third blind box.
What came out was a pair of leather gloves.
A pale blue crystal was embedded in the palm of the gloves, with wind energy flowing within the crystal.
"C-rank Gale Gloves."
After wearing them, attack speed would increase by thirty percent.
Three blind boxes.
Total cost: 15,000.
The items obtained had a market price of over eight million.
"Is it worth it?"
Lin Fan asked.
The veteran nodded vigorously, so hard his neck almost snapped.
"It's worth it! So worth it!"
"Then that's fine."
Lin Fan turned around and jumped back up to the high point of the wall.
He raised the megaphone, his voice echoing across the entire defensive line.
"Did you all see that?"
"For five thousand, you won't be cheated, and you won't be fooled."
"But you can buy a life."
"You can buy a chance to kill the enemy."
"You can buy the hope of returning home alive."
He paused, took dozens of blind boxes from his tactical vest, and threw them across the wall like scattering candy.
"I'll put it this way today—"
"Every blind box is guaranteed to contain at least a C-rank item."
"If you get trash, unconditional refund."
"If you get something good, you pay 10% of the market price."
"If you don't have enough money, you can buy on credit, use military merit to pay, or exchange loot for it."
"In short—"
Lin Fan took a deep breath and roared his final sentence.
"With me, there are no soldiers who die because they're poor!"
"Only cowards who don't dare to gamble!"
Silence.
A dead silence that lasted for three seconds.
"I want one!"
"Save two for me!"
"I want them all!"
The city wall erupted.
The soldiers went crazy.
They pulled out all the money they had—crumpled bills, blood-stained coins, and even bankbooks wrapped in plastic bags.
They rushed toward the blind boxes Lin Fan had thrown and the stalls Hou San and Tie Niu had temporarily set up below the wall.
Five thousand.
For these soldiers risking their lives on the front line, it wasn't a small amount.
But compared to their lives?
Compared to being able to kill a few more aliens?
Compared to being able to go back alive to see their families?
It was worth it!
So worth it!
"Open the boxes! Open the boxes!"
"I got a B-rank Battle Saber!"
"Hahaha, mine is an A-rank Burst Medicinal Pill! I can break through to the Martial Master Peak now!"
"Damn! Why is mine a C-rank Healing Medicine... Wait, why is the effect ten times stronger than the ones from the Logistics Department?"
Cries of ecstasy, roars of shock, and sobs of excitement.
The entire section of the wall transformed from a place of desperate death into a boisterous casino.
No.
It wasn't a casino.
It was a life-saving ground.
Lin Fan stood at the high point, his S-rank True Sight Eye scanning the entire scene.
Everything the soldiers obtained from the boxes was clearly presented in his eyes.
On the System's backend, information began to flood the screen.
