71: Chapter 71 Advancing the Front

A bloody wind whipped against his face.

The fangs of that Soldier-class Wind Wolf were a mere three inches from the throat of the recruit, Wang Dalei.

The magazine was empty.

The combat knife was broken.

Wang Dalei could even smell the nauseating rot in the Wind Wolf's mouth; he instinctively closed his eyes, waiting for death to descend.

"Smack!"

A cardboard box slammed hard against his face.

The force was so great it sent blood streaming from his nose.

"Open the box! If you want to live, open the box!"

Fatty Zhang Hao's voice cracked, sounding exceptionally piercing amidst the roaring artillery fire.

Wang Dalei reached out subconsciously, his fingers digging into the gaps of the cardboard box, and ripped it open fiercely.

There was no complex packaging like he had imagined.

"Rippp."

The cardboard box shattered.

A blinding golden light burst forth within the smoke-filled trench.

"Roar?"

The Wind Wolf's movements faltered mid-air, its eyes dazzled by this sudden radiance.

The next second.

In Wang Dalei's hands, there was suddenly a pitch-black heavy firearm, its barrel still emitting a chilly mist.

C-rank individual weapon: [Storm Ripper].

Full magazine.

Includes a frost-slowing effect.

Wang Dalei was stunned.

His body reacted faster than his brain, his finger death-gripping the trigger.

"Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!"

Blue psionic bullets poured out like a torrential rainstorm.

The Wind Wolf, which was right in front of him, didn't even have time to let out a howl before its head was instantly blown apart like a rotten watermelon. Its massive body was flung five meters away by the immense impact, crashing heavily into the mud.

"I... I survived?"

Wang Dalei panted heavily, looking at the sci-fi-looking heavy machine gun in his hands, his mind a complete blank.

Just moments ago, he thought he was dead for sure, ready to sacrifice himself gloriously.

He just opened some blind box, and suddenly he had a weapon?

"What are you dazing for! Keep opening!"

Lin Fan's voice boomed through the loudspeaker, carrying an unquestionable magic, "If you're low on health, open the red boxes! If you have no gun, open the blue boxes! If you think you're lucky, open the purple boxes!"

"Myriad Treasures Pavilion battlefield special, the first draw is free!"

Before his voice had even faded.

Countless colorful blind boxes were tossed into the trenches like raindrops.

The original deathly silence of despair was broken.

The desire to survive overrode everything.

A veteran, whose intestines were nearly spilling out, tremblingly tore open a red blind box.

A green light flashed.

A bottle of C-rank [Vitality Potion] appeared in his hand.

The veteran tilted his head back and downed it. His originally ashen face became ruddy at a visible rate, and the wound on his abdomen began to heal as granulation tissue wriggled.

"Holy crap! I'm alive, I'm alive!"

The veteran threw away the empty bottle, picked up his broken blade from the ground, and let out a beast-like roar, "Kill!!"

A miracle.

This was a true miracle.

The defensive line that was about to collapse underwent a bizarre transformation because of these boxes falling from the sky.

"I got something! C-rank Alloy Battle Armor! Hahahaha, come on! Bite me!"

"Damn it, why is it an F-rank band-aid? Do unlucky people have no rights?"

"Another one! You, fatty, give me another one! I have money, I have military merits! I want that purple one!"

Fear vanished.

In its place was a near-manic excitement.

This was no longer a battlefield with a slim chance of survival.

This was a large-scale, real-life blind box opening game.

Every exotic beast that lunged forward was no longer the Grim Reaper in the eyes of the soldiers, but walking points—chips to open the next blind box.

In the rear.

On top of the off-road vehicle.

Lin Fan's hands moved like afterimages.

Fine beads of sweat broke out on his forehead, sliding down his cheeks.

It was too fast.

The killing efficiency on the front line had increased more than threefold; the logistics soldiers' speed in hauling corpses couldn't even keep up with his speed in making blind boxes.

[Remaining Mental Power: 35%]

The system notification sounds were so fast they merged into a single line.

His mental power was repeatedly pulled between high-intensity consumption and recovery; it felt as if countless steel needles were stabbing into his mind.

But Lin Fan did not stop.

In his eyes, there were only those constantly jumping notification sounds.

This was a resource aid mission to save the entire city.

"Brother Fan, there aren't enough corpses!"

Fatty Zhang Hao, his face covered in mud, ran back carrying an empty crate, panting like a bull. "The brothers up front have gone crazy with the killing. The corpses are piled up in front of the trenches, we can't haul them back!"

Lin Fan paused his movements and looked up.

In the distance.

The beast tide that had been suppressing the humans was actually being pushed back by force.

Those 'cheating' soldiers, wearing a variety of equipment and holding various models of weapons, were screaming as they launched a counter-charge.

Some were fighting in melee with cold weapons, some were spraying with heavy machine guns, and there was even a lucky fellow who had opened a [Fireball] scroll and was acting as a mage turret.

Chaos.

Yet it was filled with an extremely savage vitality.

"The corpses can't be hauled back?"

Lin Fan casually popped a Spirit Recovery Pill into his mouth and chewed it up.

"Then we'll push the production line forward."

He jumped down from the roof of the car, landing silently.

"Fatty, drive."

"Where to?"

"The very front line."

The fat on Zhang Hao's body trembled, his eyes nearly popping out: "Brother Fan, don't joke around, that's a meat grinder!"

"Push the frontline out, use the corpses of the exotic beasts to replenish our warriors. As they decrease and we increase, the advantage is ours!"

Lin Fan pulled open the car door and sat in the passenger seat. His gaze pierced through the windshield, locked onto the Elite-class (Martial Master-class) exotic beast, the Armored Tyrannosaurus, that was wreaking havoc in the distance.

That was the raw material for C-rank blind boxes.

And the key to turning the tide of the battle.

"As long as we turn that thing into D-rank mass-produced blind boxes, we've won this battle for sure."

Fatty looked at Lin Fan's eyes, which were burning with golden flames, and gritted his teeth hard.

"Damn it, let's do it!"

"In eighteen years, I'll be a hero again!"

Vroom!

The modified off-road vehicle let out a beastly roar. Its tires ground against the earth, kicking up a cloud of dust as it plunged like a black blade into the center of the battlefield.

"Move! Everyone get out of the way!"

Fatty honked the horn frantically while steering with one hand, using the other to toss blind boxes out from the back of the truck.

"The Wealth-Giver is here!"

"It's the Myriad Treasures Pavilion car!"

The blood-crazed warriors automatically cleared a path. Looking at the off-road vehicle driving against the flow, their eyes were filled with awe and fanaticism.

In this desperate moment.

This car was their mobile armory, their second life.

"Thump!"

A Shadow Cat trying to ambush them slammed into the car window, shattered by the specialized bulletproof glass.

Lin Fan remained expressionless.

His vision was locked onto that Armored Tyrannosaurus the entire time.

Distance: five hundred meters.

Eye of True Sight, activated.

"Stop the car."

Lin Fan suddenly spoke.

"Huh? Here?" Fatty slammed on the brakes, the car body drifting sideways and barely stopping next to an abandoned bunker.

Distance to the Armored Tyrannosaurus: three hundred meters.

This distance was already within the opponent's attack range.

"Give me all the D-rank explosive blind boxes on the car."

Lin Fan jumped out of the car, his windbreaker flapping loudly in the strong wind.

He looked at the one-armed Captain Chen Gang, who was commanding the battle nearby.

"Hey! You with the missing arm!"

Chen Gang was swinging a newly-opened battle-axe with his one hand. Hearing the shout, he turned his head, his face covered in blood and filth.

"Cover me!"

Lin Fan pointed at the Armored Tyrannosaurus. "I'm going in for stock."

Chen Gang froze for a moment, then grinned, revealing a row of bloody white teeth.

"Brothers!"

"Clear a path for Boss Lin!"

"Focus fire on that big lizard!!"

Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!

Hundreds of tongues of fire turned simultaneously. The dense rain of bullets hit the Armored Tyrannosaurus's scales like a metal storm, splashing countless sparks.

Although it couldn't break through the defense, it successfully enraged it.

"Roar!!"

The Armored Tyrannosaurus let out an ear-splitting roar, abandoned its original target, and took heavy steps toward this group of ants.

The ground shook.

The foul-smelling air currents were almost enough to knock a person over.

Just when everyone thought Lin Fan was going to dodge.

He moved.

Advancing instead of retreating.

His figure was like a nimble leopard, stepping on the broken walls and debris of the ruins as he charged toward that moving small mountain.

"Is he looking for death?"

Chen Gang cried out in alarm.

Fifty meters.

Lin Fan could even see the meat scraps between the Armored Tyrannosaurus's teeth.

His body drew a bizarre arc in the air, barely avoiding the Tyrannosaurus's charge. His toes tapped on its rough knee, and he vaulted into the air.

While in mid-air.

The box in Lin Fan's hand was suddenly thrown out.

Over twenty black blind boxes scattered in the air like falling flower petals.

"For me... explode!"

Lin Fan snapped his fingers.

Mental power detonation.

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!

A series of violent explosions erupted at the Armored Tyrannosaurus's abdomen.

That was its only weakness.

The power of the D-rank explosive blind boxes stacked together; while not enough to kill an Elite-class exotic beast, it was enough to blast open its defense.

Flesh and blood flew everywhere.

The Armored Tyrannosaurus let out a shrill scream and its massive body crashed to the ground, a huge bloody hole blown into its abdomen.
