43: Horror Trap
Barton was somewhat excited, calculating in his mind.
Clearly, the intelligence he had gathered had led him here.
And according to the Town Mayor, only by obtaining that Treasure Trove could they kill the terrifying monster here.
"Oh ho! Looks like we're in luck; we've triggered a good quest!"
Barton's eyes lit up, and his attitude became more amiable.
"Town Mayor, we really were sent by the metropolis. Tell me, how do I get to that air-raid shelter?"
The Town Mayor then gave Barton a map.
After receiving the map, Barton did not have the slightest suspicion.
Under the temptation of the Treasure Trove, arrogant as he was, he had long since lost his basic vigilance.
They followed several prison guards, impatiently walking toward the side of the Police Station.
There was an inconspicuous iron gate entrance covered in weeds.
The young, black-haired team member whispered, "Captain, could this be a trap? Can the Treasure Trove really be obtained so easily? If there is a treasure, why don't they use it themselves?"
Barton scoffed, "You idiot! Haven't you ever played an MMORPG?"
"Delivering letters, fetching water, cooking meals, killing monsters—aren't all these tasks done by game characters?"
"And we are the game characters here, understand?"
This Barton was clearly the type with a contrarian and confrontational personality.
He was the kind of person who, no matter what others said, had to argue back a bit to show off his own knowledge and insight.
However, the team member's words did serve as a reminder to him.
The prison guards then opened the iron gate.
Immediately, a foul stench rushed out from inside.
Even Barton, who had his heart set on the Treasure Trove, felt like vomiting.
A trace of suspicion arose in his heart.
"The treasure is inside. Go in and get it," the prison guard said.
"Is that so? Then lead the way," Barton said.
The prison guards' expressions froze instantly, appearing somewhat reluctant.
"Damn it, lead the way!"
Barton drew his pistol, pointed it at the guard's head, and continued.
"Alright, alright, alright."
Subsequently, the prison guards turned around and walked down the steps toward the pitch-black underground air-raid shelter.
Seeing that the guards had already entered, Barton dispelled some of his suspicion.
"Let's go too. With this flame-painted M4 in hand, even if there is danger, I can activate a skill to resolve it."
With Barton saying this, the others felt slightly more at ease.
Thus, they followed him inside.
Barton's group of six followed the guiding prison guards, carefully walking down the stairs leading to the air-raid shelter.
A damp, moldy smell rushed toward them.
Mixed with an indescribable stench, it made the Female Mage involuntarily cover her nose and mouth.
The walls were damp, seeping with an unknown viscous liquid.
Dim emergency lights flickered, casting distorted shadows of everyone.
"Why is it so chilly here? It feels wrong!"
The Female Mage whispered, gripping the crude staff in her hand.
"Shut up! Don't scare yourself here!"
Barton glared at her, forcing himself to remain calm. "The treasure is down below; we must push through even if it's a mountain of blades or a sea of fire!"
Walking down from the steps, they entered a spacious area.
It was like an ancient square gladiator arena; the surrounding iron walls were very high and painted with a gray-blue color.
The prison guards walking at the very front suddenly stopped!
Immediately after, they slowly turned around.
In everyone's terrified gaze, their mouths split open at a completely unnatural angle, stretching all the way to their ears!
Scarlet muscle tissue curled outward, and several slimy tentacles covered in suction cups shot out from their split mouths.
They lunged straight at the Blackwater team member closest to them!
"Fuck! What the hell is that!"
"Open fire!"
Barton reacted the fastest, roaring, and the flame-painted M4 in his hands instantly roared to life!
Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat!
Level 5 armor-piercing rounds, bolstered by the enchanted paint, carried scorching flames.
They bombarded the mutated prison guards!
"Chain Fireball Spell!"
The Female Mage screamed as she cast her Spell, and the fireballs smashed into the mutated guards, causing them to sizzle and squeal.
But these monsters seemed fearless of death; even with flames burning on their bodies, their tentacles continued to flail wildly!
Barton's team was well-trained, and their firepower was fierce.
In the open space, they immediately scattered and widened the distance.
Dense bullets and Spells almost drowned the mutated prison guards.
A few seconds later, accompanied by a few unwilling roars.
All the mutated prison guards were riddled with bullets, scorched black, and collapsed to the ground.
"Whew! God, they were actually disguised zombies!" A Blackwater team member gasped, still shaken.
"Let's go! This is a fucking trap! Let's go back and kill that damned old bastard!" Barton's expression was ugly as he immediately realized something was wrong.
However, when they turned around to head back the way they came.
Clang!!!
At the bottom of the steps, that heavy iron door had slammed shut!
No matter how hard they tried, it wouldn't budge!
"Let me!"
Barton blasted it with his Level 5 rounds, but it was still useless.
The alloy iron door was too thick.
"Damn it! We're blocked in!"
"Find another exit!"
Just then, from the depths of the air-raid shelter, came a hair-raising laughter that sounded like a baby crying.
"Heh heh heh..." "Heh heh heh..."
The laughter grew closer and louder, as if it were right next to their ears!
The Female Mage gripped her staff tightly, her knuckles turning white. "Damn it! What kind of thing laughs like that!"
Accompanying the laughter, a massive and twisted figure slowly emerged from the darkness.
It was a giant monster over four meters tall, with pale, bloated skin, like a drowned infant!
On its bald head, there was only a mouth stretched to the limit, filled with dense, sharp teeth.
Its limbs were short and fat, yet unusually thick and powerful. Its belly was distended like a massive ball of flesh, covered in pulsing veins and large pustules.
【Super Mutant! Zombie Giant Infant Lss】
"Boss! It's a boss-level monster!" The Female Mage screamed, all color draining from her face.
"So what if it's a boss! If it has a health bar, it can be killed! Open fire! Blast it to pieces!"
Barton's eyes were bloodshot.
"Firepower Time!"
He activated his skill. He pulled the trigger frantically.
For the next 20 seconds, he could ignore magazine capacity and fire Level 5 rounds at super speed.
He bombarded the boss monster.
The other team members and the Female Mage also unleashed all their methods.
Bullets and Spells poured down on the Zombie Giant Infant Lss like raindrops, causing its fat body to tremble continuously, pustules bursting and leaking disgusting yellow-green liquid.
But this monster's health was shockingly high. It withstood the dense firepower, and its wide-open mouth suddenly opened wide!
Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!
Clusters of fist-sized, bright red, eight-legged little spiders shot out from its mouth like cannonballs.
After landing, they crawled toward Barton and the others at lightning speed!
"What the hell?!"
Before the words left his mouth, a small spider had already crawled onto the leg of a Blackwater team member!
Then, the spider's belly turned red at high speed, just like a heated branding iron.
Boom!!! A violent explosion occurred instantly!
"Ah!!!" The team member screamed, his entire leg blown to a bloody pulp!
