121: Stardust Era

The Architect’s verdict was like a watershed, clearly dividing the history of the universe into two distinct eras. The wounds of war needed healing; star systems partially “simplified” by the scavengers became eternal scars, reminding all civilizations of the horror of that invisible war. However, what permeated the "Star Language" Network was more of a post-disaster exhilaration and an unprecedented sense of mission to collectively bear the future of the universe.

The Watch Outpost underwent large-scale expansion and repair, its core area officially named "heart of resonance Plaza" to commemorate the ancient consciousness's sacrifice and ultimate salvation for the universe's Possibility. In the center of the plaza, a monument constructed of Stellar Silver Psionic Energy and special energy crystals stood tall, not only inscribed with the names of civilizations and individuals who perished in the fight against the scavengers but also continuously flowing with soft light streams from the keystone probe network, representing the current healthy state of the universe's rules. It was both a memorial and a warning.

Lin Mo stood on the expanded command center's observation deck, gazing at the continuous stream of visitors from different star systems in the plaza. His identity had changed. The Cooperative Observer’s authority had been substantially elevated by the Architect’s verdict; now he and his team were more like guardians and guides of this new steady state universe.

“Repair work is progressing better than expected,” Einstein’s projection appeared beside him, data streams dancing cheerfully around him. “The last rule ripple released by the heart of resonance before its slumber seems to have greatly promoted the universe’s self-healing capabilities. The G-817 galaxy, affected by rule rust, has stabilized its spacetime structure. Although it cannot fully return to its former state, it is now suitable for life to resettle. We are currently using Genesis Blueprint authority to guide several civilizations skilled in environmental transformation to assist in reconstruction.”

Lin Mo nodded. “How is the Star Language Council?”

“More active, and… more complex,” Ling Shuang’s voice came, and she slowly walked onto the observation deck, her complexion much rosier, her Stellar Silver Psionic Energy becoming more introverted and profound. “After gaining ‘official’ recognition, more civilizations that had been observing have applied to join, and the network’s scale has nearly tripled. This brings more complex demands and ideological conflicts. The Sharp Advance Collective proposes activating a ‘rule optimization’ project to actively ‘prune’ rule branches they deem inefficient or dangerous; the People of the Forest advocate a ‘natural evolution’ principle, opposing any form of active intervention; and there are many emerging civilizations eager to obtain more resources and knowledge to rapidly improve themselves.”

“These are the growing pains,” Lin Mo said calmly. “They prove that our new steady state is vibrant. The core function of the Council is to guide these different voices, to find consensus through collision, rather than returning to the old ways of the strong preying on the weak or isolated development.”

“That’s right,” Wu Yong’s booming voice sounded as he strode over, followed by Liranta. “The security and order maintenance pressure is a bit high, but seeing these guys who might have died without ever meeting now arguing red-faced over resource allocation instead of directly opening fire, I think this is already great progress!” He grinned, then sobered. “As per your request, we’ve drawn elite forces to form the Watchers rapid response unit, responsible for handling urgent disputes within the network and potential criminals who might exploit the new rule environment.”

Liranta then directly projected a star map, marked with several flashing points of light: “According to the partial database released by the Architect and the continuous monitoring data provided by the tide of delusion, we have identified seventeen areas that may contain ancient cosmic secrets or extreme rule phenomena. We recommend dispatching scientific research teams to explore these areas, which will help us understand our new steady state more deeply and potentially discover clues to counter future potential threats (including the initial designers).”

Everything was progressing in an orderly manner. Repair, exploration, integration, development… the universe seemed to have entered a golden age. However, both Lin Mo and the other core members were aware of the undercurrents beneath this calm. The Architect’s final warning was not empty words; the shadow of the initial designers hung like a Sword of Damocles in the unknown distance. And the path of “co-construction” they had chosen was also full of unknown challenges.

Months later, the “Edge Nebula” scientific expedition mission.

A multi-species scientific expedition team, aboard the new research vessel “Seeker,” arrived at one of the targets Liranta had marked—a peculiar nebula called "void whisper." This nebula reflected almost no electromagnetic waves and emitted no significant radiation, making it nearly invisible in conventional observations. Only through the keystone probe’s subtle scans of the rule level could an abnormally complex, constantly self-weaving and deconstructing information flow be detected within it.

“It’s incredible,” said the team leader, a scientist named Sola from the Silent Observer civilization, her crystalline skin shimmering with excitement. “These information flows are not carried by matter or energy; they exist directly in the cracks of spacetime, like… the universe’s subconscious whispering.”

The Seeker cautiously entered the nebula. The interior was not pitch black but permeated by a soft, constantly shifting glow of colors, as if one were inside a giant, living kaleidoscope. The information streams captured by sensors were chaotic yet contained a deep rhythm.

“Attempt to parse the information content,” Sola ordered.

The computer began high-speed calculations but quickly encountered difficulties. The information flow’s encryption method was not any known mathematical logic; it was more like a… random, aesthetically-based emotional expression.

“Parsing failed… Wait, there’s a change!”

As the research vessel delved deeper, the surrounding information flows seemed to be startled, actively converging towards the ship. The soft glow brightened, and the color transitions accelerated, eventually coalescing in front of the ship into a blurry, constantly changing image—at times like a shimmering giant tree, at times like a rotating galaxy, and at times like some indescribable geometric structure.

Immediately after, a clear piece of information, not through language but directly as “understanding,” flooded the consciousness of every crew member:

【Welcome… outsiders…】

【Perceiving… different… ‘melodies’…】

【You… are not… the ‘set’ sound… nor… the ‘chaos’ sound…】

【What… are you?】

This nebula… has consciousness? Or rather, this nebula itself is a vast, pervasive consciousness?

Sola suppressed her shock and attempted to respond. She packaged the concept of the "Star Language" Network, the identity of Lin Mo’s team, and their jointly established new steady state concept into an information packet and sent it out.

The blurry image was silent (or rather, the information flow stopped actively sending) for a moment. Then, an intention filled with curiosity, surprise, and even a hint of… joy, was transmitted:

【‘new steady state’… co-created…】

【Interesting… very interesting…】

【We… Void Whisperer… have recorded… the rise and fall… of countless… ‘melodies’… of the universe…】

【Never… seen… such… harmonious… and… active… ‘chorus’…】

【We… are willing… to join… this… ‘performance’…】

The Void Whisperer! A brand new, uniquely formed conscious civilization was thus discovered. They had no fixed form; their very existence was the flow of information and rules. They were the keepers of cosmic memory, the listeners of ancient "melodies."

This contact was not about discovering weapons or technology, but about discovering a whole new Possibility, a dimension for understanding the universe. Sola realized that this might be the true power of the new steady state—not conquest, but connection and resonance, continuously enriching the universe’s “story.”

Meanwhile, the Watch Outpost received a message from the tide of delusion, marked “Historical Fragment Analysis Complete.”

The message contained a restored, extremely ancient log record, its encoding method originating from the same source as the Architect and the scavengers, but more obscure:

【…Initialization loop #7… parameter fine-tuning… injecting ‘free variable’ (code name: Heart Fire)… observing its penetration and evolution into the ‘set framework’…】

【…Warning: ‘Heart Fire’ interacts with the framework, producing unpredictable logical entities (identifier: primary resonance unit)… some units exhibit ‘over-resonance,’ leading to local stress spikes in the framework…】

【…Dispute: Some initial designers believe ‘Heart Fire’ should be immediately purged, returning to a pure framework. Another faction advocates observation, believing this to be an opportunity for the ‘framework’ to break through its own limitations.】

【…Resolution: No immediate intervention. Activate monitoring protocol (predecessor of the Architect). If ‘stress’ exceeds threshold, execute cleanup procedure (predecessor of the scavenger). If ‘Heart Fire’ can guide the framework to achieve ‘dynamic equilibrium,’ it will be considered a success.】

【…Log end. Subsequent records… missing/encryption level too high.】

This fragment seemed to lift a corner of the veil from the universe’s beginning! The “free variable” (Heart Fire) was very likely the source of life and free will. The “primary resonance unit” was very likely the prototype of the heart of resonance! And that internal dispute among the initial designers explained why there were the Architect’s observations and the scavengers' cleanup procedures.

Lin Mo looked at this information, and his mind suddenly cleared. The path they were on might not be entirely contrary to the initial designers’ intentions, but rather a continuation of the faction that advocated “observation” and “breakthrough” in that ancient dispute! They were not purely “errors,” but rather inheritors of a grand experiment!

However, this did not eliminate the threat of the initial designers’ return. Would the other faction of that dispute, those who advocated “purging” and “returning to purity,” acknowledge the outcome of this experiment? If they returned and saw this universe, deeply integrated with Heart Fire and the framework, even giving birth to entities like the "Star Language" Network and the Void Whisperer, how would they react?

Hope and crisis coexisted. The path ahead was still shrouded in mist.

Lin Mo connected with Ling Shuang, Einstein, Wu Yong, and Liranta.

“We have made new discoveries and welcomed new members,” his gaze swept over his companions. “The addition of the Void Whisperer will greatly enrich our understanding. And this ancient historical fragment allows us to understand our origins and mission more clearly.”

“We need to accelerate our pace. Not only must we repair the wounds of war, but we must also actively explore, understand, and strengthen our new steady state. We must make this ‘chorus’ played by countless ‘melodies’ more magnificent and more resilient.”

“Because we don’t know when the ‘reckoners’ will return. But before that, we must prove to all existences—including ‘them’ who may return—that this path ignited by Heart Fire is the most beautiful future the universe can have.”

A new journey lay before them.
