107: Room for bargaining

As the Captain, he should have maintained a positive attitude, but the situation before him was too overwhelmingly disparate.

The elusive assassins, like ghosts, were unable to breach the impregnable power center despite persistent attacks.

The situation looked like a one-sided crushing defeat.

The only thing he could do now was to try his best to delay this crushing process.

“Sixth Squad! Sixth Squad! Fifth Squad! Fifth Squad! Respond if you hear me, what's your situation? Why haven't you controlled the power center yet?”

“Hiss...hiss...”

“Captain...Nikita Komarovsky has sacrificed himself, and our squad has suffered heavy losses. Next, I will command the remaining personnel to launch one last attack.”

This was the voice of Nikita Komarovsky, the Captain of the Sixth Squad.

The Captain wanted to speak but stopped himself, ultimately remaining silent.

Subsequently, there was no new reply on the radio, only a long static sound.

The outcome was already determined; both the Sixth Squad and the Fifth Squad had fallen during the charge.

“Ah...”

The Captain opened his mouth wide but made no sound. He suppressed his grief, even though his heart was torn by despair.

“God, please bless our Leader. I am willing to dedicate everything I have!”

He prayed incessantly, hoping for even a sliver of solace.

Because this was his only way out.

His daughter's innocent face appeared in his mind, and he seemed to hear her voice calling him 'Daddy' as she nestled in his arms.

All of this was thanks to the Leader.

When his daughter was seriously ill, it was the Leader who arranged her treatment, and when the medical system was on the verge of collapse, he donated a large amount of personal wealth for hospital construction.

It could be said that without the Leader, his daughter would not have had a second chance at life.

A raging Bear ignited in his heart, and his eyes became resolute.

“Prepare to execute the final plan! Detonate the landmines and traps in the passage!”

“Understood!”

...

“Hiss...crack...”

On a silent night, a sharp dagger flashed through the darkness, leaving a fatal trail. A white man suddenly felt a sharp pain. He instinctively covered his neck, but only weak gurgling sounds came from his throat.

He turned to look at his attacker, his eyes filled with shock and confusion, as if seeing an incomprehensible scene.

In that instant, his vision began to blur, his body went limp, and he fell heavily to the ground with a dull thud.

Until the last moment of his life, he couldn't understand why an enemy had approached from behind, much less how this enemy had an Asian face, or where that night vision device came from.

These questions vanished with his life, becoming eternal secrets.

The attacker first wiped the dagger clean on his clothes, then spoke into the communicator around his neck: “Report, the hidden sentry on the right has been cleared.”

This was a report on the battle situation to Xu Ning. Although the entire operation was under Xie Biao's command, he always reported the progress to Xu Ning at the first opportunity. It seemed that, without realizing it, Xu Ning had already become their de facto commander.

Soon, Xu Ning's voice came from the communicator: “Well done, keep advancing, but be careful, there may still be lurking enemies.”

“Understood!”

Xu Ning was currently located in a two-story building near the President's mansion, wearing combat gear and carrying a makeshift weapon.

He was directing the squad led by Xie Biao to clear the obstacles ahead and relying on a device named “Dawn” to locate the visible and hidden sentries set up by the Central Intelligence Agency.

To ensure the smooth progress of the operation, Xu Ning decided not to let the squad led by Sun Bo act for the time being, as those night vision devices might expose them and cause trouble. Only “Dawn's” thermal imaging technology could detect their location before the enemy noticed them.

Although the President's safety was imminent, Xu Ning remained calm and commanded. He knew that if the outer perimeter was not thoroughly cleared, Xie Biao's squad might face the risk of being attacked from both sides. This was a situation he would absolutely not allow to happen.

In addition to this, there was another matter that worried Xu Ning.

Xu Ning glanced at the serious-looking Kadeyafu beside him, licked his dry lips, and asked:

“According to your analysis, do you think the reason the Vice President didn't send reinforcements to save your grandfather is because he betrayed you?”

Kadeyafu responded with firm eyes: “No, that's impossible! There must be another hidden reason. Although the Vice President is cold towards me, he has always been loyal to my grandfather. They are old comrades who have gone through thick and thin together.”

Xu Ning replied: “Things are unpredictable. Friends and enemies can both change their positions, just like the two of us now.”

He paused for a moment, seemingly lost in thought, then continued:

“Since you trust him so much, I can help you find out the truth.”

“Sun Bo.”

“Here!” Sun Bo responded.

“From the squad you brought, pick out ten soldiers and give them to him.”

Sun Bo replied without hesitation: “Yes! I will arrange it immediately.”

As he spoke, Sun Bo's gaze remained fixed on Xu Ning. His admiration for Xu Ning had already reached its peak, especially after witnessing Xu Ning create astonishing night vision equipment from inventory materials.

Xu Ning seemed completely unaware of Sun Bo's admiration, only turning to smile at Kadeyafu and say:

“Now, you can go seek the truth.”

He added: “If it is as you say, you can return with the Vice President's support to help your grandfather, giving him a greater chance of survival. But if the situation is not like that...”

Xu Ning extended a finger: “As compensation, I only ask for ten percent of the shares in the military factory in your hands.”

Kadeyafu was speechless for a moment, not expecting that Xu Ning wanted a share of the four percent of shares he had left.

However, after a moment, his heart wavered again, because he really didn't want to believe that the Vice President would betray them.

“Okay! I agree! We'll bet on this ten percent of the shares!”

“Also, borrowing my soldiers naturally requires some payment, but we can discuss this bill later,” Xu Ning said with a smile.

A vein popped out on Kadeyafu's forehead.

How could this guy be so self-righteous?

Kadeyafu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

As Xu Ning said, he had no room to bargain now.

He could only go all out!

He clenched his fists, his resolve like iron.

He knew that every arrival of aid was a ray of hope for rescuing his grandfather. He had to seize every opportunity!

“All right, I agree.”

“Looking forward to your early return.”

Xu Ning still wore a gentle smile, but Kadeyafu's heart inexplicably trembled. Although they were allies now, he still felt a heartfelt fear when facing Xu Ning, as if this fear was deeply rooted in his bones.

Xu Ning didn't care if the Vice President had betrayed them; all he cared about was that ten percent of the shares.
