154: Unwilling to face reality

"The car windows have been thickened, and there's this control lever..." The three replied in unison, with a slightly bewildered expression on their faces.

Xu Ning smiled proudly: "That's right, this is a bulletproof jeep. The armor has been specially treated and can even withstand RPG rockets."

He paused, then continued: "As for this control lever, each of you has one in front of you, controlling different weapons. You already know about the heavy machine gun, so what about the remaining two? Do you want to know what they are?"

The three looked at each other, their expressions strange.

"Never mind how thick the armor is or if it can block rockets, just talking about the three weapons installed in the car, this is the first time we've seen them," one of them said.

"Is this still called a jeep?" another person asked in surprise.

While driving, Xu Ning noticed the surprised looks of the three beside him, so he said to Big Guy in the passenger seat: "Big Guy, try the control lever in front of you."

"Ah, okay, I'll try." Big Guy responded, then pressed the button on the control lever. Immediately, a roaring sound came from the roof.

The three saw a string of weapons fly out, hitting the road ahead and raising a cloud of dust. The heavy machine gun on the roof spat out flames and made continuous firing sounds.

On the other side, Ivanyafu was fiercely sweeping the front with a submachine gun. Sweat and blood mixed together and flowed down his cheeks, blurring his vision. "Damn it, I'm going to fight them today."

The guard team member beside him quickly pulled him back behind the car. Immediately after, a dense barrage of weapons swept across the spot where Ivanyafu had just been standing. If it had been a moment later, Ivanyafu might have lost his life.

More than half of the guard team had already been lost. The remaining people were hiding behind the jeeps, barely resisting the enemy's attack. Kadeyafu was curled up in a ball, full of fear, but still clutching a pistol in his hand.

From an aerial view, it could be seen that most of the jeeps had been destroyed, and those that could still move had crashed into each other, forming a temporary defensive circle.

Outside, there were more than a dozen jeeps and motorcycles stopped, with hundreds of enemies hiding behind them, continuously shooting at them. Weapons hit the cars, and some vehicles had already started to burn.

Everyone knew that breaking through this defensive circle was only a matter of time. In fact, just as Xu Ning had expected, the one who planned this ambush was Grigory.

At this moment, he was sitting in a black car protected by two jeeps, calmly smoking a cigar and waiting for news of victory.

Grigory grew impatient. Half of the cigar in his hand had burned away, and the ash piled up like a small mountain, but the good news he was anticipating was slow to arrive.

Frowning deeply, he flicked off the ash and turned to Yatoniy, who was beside him, asking: "The battle has been going on for more than ten minutes, and it's still not resolved?"

Yatoniy held an ashtray, sweat beading on his forehead, and replied: "Yes, the opponent is experienced in combat, using cars as cover and constantly shooting. We can't get close."

Grigory widened his eyes: "Don't you know how to use grenades or rocket launchers to directly destroy the cover?"

"But, didn't you say you wanted to keep them alive?" Yatoniy stammered in response.

Grigory's gaze was cold and threatening: "Are you questioning my orders?"

"Dare not, dare not."

"Then go and do it quickly."

"Yes, wait a moment."

Just as Yatoniy was about to leave, he was called back. Grigory added: "Tell them, this is their last chance. If they don't surrender, prepare to face death."

"Understood."

Yatoniy didn't dare to delay and quickly ran towards the battlefield. Remembering the humiliation he suffered at the Tadayev Shipyard, Grigory's heart was filled with a desire for revenge. At this moment, he had only one thought: to completely annihilate those people.

Yatoniy arrived at the front line and saw that the situation hadn't changed. He angrily kicked a soldier, "Cease fire immediately, you bunch of useless people, you can't even finish it in ten minutes."

Upon hearing this, everyone put down their weapons. Yatoniy picked up the megaphone and shouted: "People inside, listen up! Come out and surrender immediately, or bear the consequences."

Soon, a voice came from behind a burning jeep. It was Ivanyafu's: "You guys are worthy?"

"Even if I fall here today, I will not yield to cowards like you."

"Chechen Republic of Ichkeria never knows surrender, only fighting to the end."

Yatoniy showed no anger, raised the megaphone, and continued: "Don't be in a hurry to die. I promise, as long as you surrender, you won't be harmed."

"Isn't it good to be alive? Why must you choose death?"

"As long as you hand over Xu Ning, I guarantee you will leave safely."

Despite saying this, a cunning smile appeared at the corner of Yatoniy's mouth. He knew that the reason Grigory insisted on capturing them alive was because he liked to slowly torture people, just like he did to Adrian back then.

Survival?

Once they fell into their hands, survival was almost impossible. He didn't explicitly say whether the ones released would be alive or corpses.

Mr. Harvey had already given the order to leave no one alive, but Yatoniy didn't know that Xu Ning was actually not in the cover. When the two left, Makarov hadn't contacted Xu Ning yet, so they were completely unaware of this.

Inside the cover, Kadeyafu calmed down and saw Ivanyafu looking at him.

"How about..."

Kadeyafu was stunned for a moment, then immediately understood what Ivanyafu meant. He responded with a bitter smile: "Uncle Ivanyafu, when did you become so naive?"

"Even if they knew Mr. Xu wasn't here, do you think they would let us go?"

"But, this is the only chance for you to survive."

Ivanyafu lowered his head, reluctantly admitting that this was an almost impossible wish to achieve.

He only wanted Kadeyafu to survive, to the extent that he lost his mind and refused to face reality.

Kadeyafu said: "Uncle Ivanyafu, don't be like this. Ever since they surrounded us, we could only hope for Mr. Xu to save us, but now it seems the hope is slim..."

He sighed, feeling infinitely lost in his heart. Originally, Malyshev Military Industry was about to get better, but he wouldn't be able to witness it.

Kadeyafu thought: "Grandpa, I'm sorry, I'm coming to find you, but the revival of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria couldn't be my gift."

"Xu Ning, I am honored to be your friend. I learned too much from you, but unfortunately, I won't have another chance to put it into practice."

Kadeyafu suddenly burst into laughter, his face full of despair. He shouted to the outside: "Listen up, people outside! Give up your foolish notions! We will not betray our friends. You guys, just come! Chechen Republic of Ichkeria will never surrender."

In the last moments of his life, Kadeyafu finally used the right words.

Yatoniy's face turned ashen. He couldn't bear it anymore, picked up the megaphone, and roared: "Then you all can go to hell."

Then he ordered his subordinates: "Throw explosives if you have them, fire rockets if you have rocket launchers. I want to see their corpses within three minutes."
