7: Chapter 7: The Otherworldly Construction Foreman, Taking Orders Online
Director Zhao Lixin's efficiency was high.
In less than half a day, the complete set of documents for the abandoned Second Industrial Park in the south of the city was piled up in front of Jiang Ning.
Several large atlases, from the general regional plan to the underground pipe network, from structural engineering to geological reports, and even a list of how many screws were left in the warehouse were all there.
After receiving the materials, Jiang Ning simply sat cross-legged on the floor and flipped through them page by page.
She read incredibly fast; Director Zhao Lixin and Professor Chen, who was beside her, couldn't even keep up with her eyes.
Yet, they felt she was reading with extreme detail, her fingers occasionally tracing over the blueprints as if calculating something.
"What is she doing?" Director Zhao Lixin asked Professor Chen in a hushed voice.
Professor Chen pushed up his glasses, his voice dropping even lower: "It looks like... mental calculation. She is reconstructing the entire industrial park in her mind and then applying that set of energy theories we don't understand to it. This... this brain is faster than a supercomputer!"
Director Zhao Lixin didn't fully understand, but he knew this young woman was doing serious work and shouldn't be disturbed.
He just stood by and waited.
After a full three hours, Jiang Ning finished reading all the materials.
She closed her eyes, and a 3D model of the entire industrial park was already spinning in her mind.
Where high-voltage lines could be used to attract lightning, where chemical tanks could be used as pools, where residual metal veins underground could serve as foundations... she knew it all perfectly.
This place was practically tailor-made for her.
"I've finished reading the blueprints." Jiang Ning opened her eyes and looked at Director Zhao Lixin. "I have a plan."
So fast?
Director Zhao Lixin and Professor Chen were both stunned.
Three hours to finalize a renovation plan for a one-square-kilometer industrial park?
Looking at it globally, no top-tier team could pull this off in less than a week.
"Consultant Jiang, shouldn't you think it over a bit more?" Professor Chen couldn't help but ask.
"No need." Jiang Ning replied firmly. "This method is the fastest, the most cost-effective, and has the best results. There's no need to change it."
She took a flat stone slab out of the cloth bag she carried, picked up a sharp stone, and began to draw on the slab.
The tip of the stone moved in her hand as fast as a shadow, and countless complex lines and strange symbols appeared on the slab, forming a "construction blueprint" that no one could understand.
The diagram was very strange; it contained modern engineering elements like dimensions and angles, but it was also filled with bizarre patterns that looked mystical.
"This is..." Professor Chen leaned in, his eyes widening. "A circuit diagram? Or some new kind of geometry?"
Jiang Ning didn't have time to explain and handed the stone slab to Director Zhao Lixin.
"The master plan. Follow this." She pointed to a few spots on the diagram. "Here, drive thirty-six piles, using that steel I refined earlier, at least fifty meters deep."
"Here, dig a large circular pool and dump all the waste chemical materials into it. I will give you a formula."
"And there, turn the tallest chimney into a lightning rod, and connect it to the steel reinforcement of the entire building using the copper wire I specified."
She gave instructions item by item, speaking quickly and clearly.
Director Zhao Lixin listened while having his subordinates take notes quickly.
He discovered that the requirements Consultant Jiang mentioned were terrifyingly detailed; she even explained the molecular structure of the materials and the construction tolerances clearly.
This wasn't some immortal; this was clearly a terrifyingly experienced chief engineer!
"I understand." After listening, Director Zhao Lixin nodded heavily. "I will immediately organize the best engineering team to work twenty-four hours a day, following your blueprints exactly. Whatever you need, just make a list, and even if it's the stars in the sky, we will get them for you!"
Jiang Ning liked hearing that.
She loved dealing with such straightforward "clients."
"Alright." She nodded. "Then let's talk about future cooperation."
Director Zhao Lixin perked up, knowing the main point was coming.
"Go ahead."
"This is just the beginning." Jiang Ning looked at him. "My goal is to change this world. To make the air clean, to restore the land, and to help people... live longer."
If anyone else had said this, Director Zhao Lixin would surely have thought it was bragging.
But coming from Jiang Ning, combined with the skills she had shown earlier, Director Zhao Lixin felt his heart burn with excitement.
"To accomplish this, I need you to trust me completely and support me." Jiang Ning continued. "Therefore, there are some things I must tell you honestly."
Director Zhao Lixin immediately straightened up.
"I am not from this world."
These words were like a thunderclap, exploding in the minds of Director Zhao Lixin and everyone in the command vehicle.
Although they had guessed it before, hearing it with their own ears felt completely different.
An alien? A visitor from another world?
Something that only existed in novels and movies was standing right in front of them!
"I come from a... world where one can cultivate." Jiang Ning's tone was very flat, as if she were commenting on the weather. "What I use is called 'Arrays' and 'Artifact Refining' where I'm from. My arrival here was an accident. The reason I'm seeking cooperation with you is because I see potential here, and I'm sick of the endless fighting where I come from."
She paused, then added: "I'm just someone who does construction, a pure 'worker.' I have no interest in ruling the world or changing dynasties; it's too much trouble."
The amount of information was overwhelming; Director Zhao Lixin felt his head buzzing.
While digesting it, he quickly judged the truth of it.
Looking back at the things she had done, this explanation was actually the most plausible.
"What is your world... like?" Director Zhao Lixin couldn't help but ask.
"Very powerful, and very chaotic." Jiang Ning said simply. "Whoever has the biggest fist is right, and they will do anything for a bit of resources. Someone like me, who can't fight and only knows how to handle logistics, doesn't have much status in a sect."
Director Zhao Lixin felt a stir in his heart.
He seemed to understand a little.
In a world that prizes martial strength, technical personnel are not valued.
But in China, intellectuals have been respected since ancient times, and now, the status of scientists and engineers is even higher.
Perhaps it was this respect for "builders" that made her willing to cooperate.
Director Zhao Lixin took a breath, stood up, and gave a solemn military salute to Jiang Ning.
"Comrade Jiang Ning, on behalf of The Ninth Bureau and the country, I welcome you. I may not be able to fully understand everything you've said, but I believe what I see. From now on, your affairs are top secret, and your projects are the highest priority. I guarantee you that as long as what you do benefits this country and its people, we will support you without reservation!"
At this moment, a "worker" from the cultivation world and a modern state apparatus reached a core consensus.
An era of grand Infrastructure Construction was about to begin.
