183: Contributions of hundreds of train conductors
There were hundreds of people, each holding a gun, most of which were nuclear firearms. Clearly, Luo Chen was not the only one with such considerations.
At this moment, a stern-faced middle-aged man from the Xia Kingdom stood at the front of the crowd. He cleared his throat and shouted to everyone:
“Ahem… Since everyone has gathered here, our goal is the same. I presume your leaders have already instructed you, so from now on, you must all obey my command.
Our objective now is simple: to overcome this Zombie Tide, we need to requisition some Trains to build a defensive line. Any Train with fewer than ten carriages is subject to our requisition.
To prevent some individuals from being selfish and failing to consider the bigger picture, abandoning the future of the Blue Star’s humanity, any Train Conductor unwilling to give up their Train may be executed by us. Their Train carriages will be fairly distributed among your leaders after the event, to gain more space for human survival.
Now, everyone, follow my orders and depart.”
With that, the man led a large group of people majestically towards the outskirts.
Those present watched this scene indifferently. No one objected; as long as their interests were not sacrificed, they could righteously carry out this command for the greater good of humanity.
Luo Chen showed a cold smile. He couldn’t help but lament that these important figures, deeply entrenched in officialdom, truly understood how to play the long game and seize the moral high ground better than he did.
Soon, gunshots and the sound of Trains taking off echoed incessantly from various locations.
For those Train Conductors whose Trains had fewer than ten carriages, there were only three paths before them:
One, drive their Train to break through, but the success rate was almost zero; two, resist fiercely, then be killed, and their Train confiscated; three, voluntarily give up their Train Conductor status, sacrifice their Train for the greater good, and gain a chance to survive.
Almost all rational and intelligent people chose the third option. Compared to the other two choices, the third option offered a chance to live.
Half an hour later, the Trains voluntarily given up were stacked between the Zombie Tide and the Wanderer Commerce Guild, forming a wall forty to fifty meters high and eight meters wide.
A man walked up to Xia Liang, whispered a few words in his ear, and then quickly left.
After listening, Xia Liang smiled. He slowly stood up and said with a laugh:
“Everyone, I have good news to tell you. Thanks to the contributions of hundreds of Train Conductors, we have successfully built a wall, holding back the Dinosaur Zombies outside and securing enough safe space for us.”
Everyone present showed happy smiles and stood up, applauding.
Xia Liang pressed his palms together, signaling for everyone to calm down. He paused, then said coldly:
“Now, as promised, those Train Conductors are free to choose which Train to join. Please, those of you present, do not refuse. They will come here shortly to choose. You each need to leave a person in charge to receive them, and then you can go hunt zombies. Please excuse me, as I will not be accompanying you further.”
After speaking, Xia Liang left one person behind, and all his subordinates followed him, quickly departing.
Hearing “hunt zombies,” the others also did not linger, quickly leaving. Their personal interests were at stake, so they could no longer be as leisurely as before.
“Qin Mengyue, leave one person to take over. We’ll go back for our weapons first!” Luo Chen instructed, then also left.
Upon returning to the Train, Luo Chen quickly gathered all the women with weapons and headed towards the wall.
Qin Mengyue and Jiang Zhi also brought their respective subordinates along. Energy Stones were at stake, so they all took it very seriously.
Arriving at the edge of the wall, Luo Chen found several ten-meter-wide archways in the wall. Inside the archways, dense Dinosaur Zombies continuously pushed and surged into the wall.
Because the openings were limited in size, the number of zombies rushing in was usually only about ten. They were quickly killed under the dense gunfire, causing no harm to the crowd. On the contrary, the people inside were excited, constantly attacking as if they were farming bosses.
Luo Chen led his group quickly towards an archway with fewer people. Killing one zombie yielded one Energy Stone, no different from farming small monsters, and he didn't want to fall behind others.
“Luo Chen, over here!” A familiar female voice came from his right.
Following the source of the sound, inside a damaged carriage, a group of people were holding guns and hiding behind a window. Among them, a cute-faced woman was excitedly waving at them, indicating she was the one who spoke.
