192: If you want to punish someone, punish me alone.
When he saw Jiang Chen standing at the very front, and then glimpsed the factory director, workshop supervisor, and a Group of people in suits following Jiang Chen, his eyes suddenly panicked. The phone in his hand fell onto the bed with a 'clatter,' and the game sound effects continued to play.
He scrambled up from the bed, his ankle accidentally catching on the slipper by the bed, and he staggered before steadying himself. Subconsciously, he wiped the tobacco crumbs from the corner of his mouth with his sleeve.
His hands hung nervously by his sides, his voice trembling slightly: "L-leaders, hello... I, I'm on rotation today, so I'm playing games in the dorm..."
Jiang Chen didn't pay attention to his panic. His gaze swept over the messy dorm room, finally resting on his flushed face. He asked in a calm tone, "No need to be nervous, we just came to take a look. What's your name? Which workshop do you work in?"
"I... my name is Li Liang, and I'm responsible for body assembly in the general assembly workshop." The young worker lowered his head. Although he didn't know Jiang Chen's identity, seeing the usually high-and-mighty leaders standing behind him, it was clear he was also a leader.
"How long have you worked here? How much can you earn in a month? Do you usually need to work overtime? Approximately how long do you work overtime each day?" Jiang Chen continued to ask, his voice steady, showing no emotional fluctuations, yet it made the atmosphere in the dorm even heavier.
Chen Yang's heart skipped a beat when he heard this, thinking, "It's over!"
He had been so focused on new car research recently that he had completely forgotten about the salary and welfare benefits for frontline basic employees that the Board of Directors had issued earlier. Now, being caught red-handed, he felt a chill run down his spine.
Li Liang swallowed, secretly glanced at the factory leaders, then at the calm-faced Jiang Chen, and honestly replied, "I've been here for almost half a year. The basic monthly salary is 4,000, and with overtime pay, I can get a little over 6,000."
"There's a lot of overtime. Normal quitting time is six, but basically, I have to work until ten every night. It's been a bit busier lately, so sometimes I work until midnight. I only get two or three days off a month, and sometimes I work continuously for several days without a break." As he spoke, his voice grew softer, yet every word clearly reached everyone's ears.
"Haven't there been any raises recently?"
Li Liang shook his head, "I haven't heard anything about a raise."
After hearing this, Jiang Chen's face remained expressionless, but his eyes deepened. He turned and asked Secretary Zhu in a deep voice:
"Secretary Zhu, has the Group's newly formulated employee welfare policy been fully communicated? Has the newly formulated welfare treatment for frontline grassroots employees been communicated to Feichi Factory?"
Upon hearing this, Secretary Zhu immediately stepped forward with her tablet, her tone serious: "Chairman Jiang, the regulations for employee working hours and the welfare plan for frontline grassroots employees have been synchronously communicated to the entire Group and its subsidiaries, including Feichi Factory, via the Group's intranet and email. The system shows that President Chen and the factory management have all viewed and acknowledged receipt."
After listening, Jiang Chen looked at Chen Yang, hoping he could provide an explanation. Such a messy dorm environment and overtime hours far exceeding regulations clearly indicated that no one was taking his emphasis seriously.
Even if Feichi was newly acquired, the dorm environment could be explained as a legacy issue, but the salary, benefits, and working hours couldn't possibly have remained unchanged.
Chen Yang braced himself and stepped forward, explaining with a hint of embarrassment in his voice: "Chairman Jiang, I did receive the notice from the Board of Directors... It's just that I've been busy rushing the new car experiment progress recently, and I was momentarily negligent, failing to supervise the factory's implementation in time. It's my responsibility."
The other factory leaders also stood behind him, trembling, each with their heads bowed, not daring to speak. Someone quietly tugged at Chen Yang's sleeve, but he subtly avoided it.
Jiang Chen didn't press further. He turned to look at Li Liang, who was still nervous and at a loss. He took a step forward, gently patted his shoulder, and said with a softened tone:
"Keep up the good work. It's good for young people to be energetic, but from now on, pay attention to keeping the dorm clean. Also, the dorm is a public area, and smoking is prohibited. You must be responsible for yourself and others."
"Yes, yes, leader, I understand! I promise to be clean from now on and not smoke in the dorm." Li Liang quickly replied, his tone full of reverence.
"Mm." Jiang Chen nodded slightly, said no more, and turned to walk out of the dorm. Secretary Zhu immediately hurried to catch up.
Chen Yang and the factory managers exchanged a panicked glance, then quickly looked at Li Liang, who was still standing in place, and hurried out, their steps somewhat flustered.
Stepping out of the dorm, Jiang Chen paused, looking at Chen Yang who was hurrying to catch up. He said to Secretary Zhu beside him: "Secretary Zhu, please reiterate the newly formulated salary and welfare policies for frontline factory employees to President Chen and them."
"Yes." Secretary Zhu nodded in agreement, her gaze sweeping over Chen Yang and the factory managers, whose expressions varied. Her tone was calm but every word was clear: "According to the Group's latest policy, the basic salary for frontline grassroots factory employees will be adjusted to start from 6,500 yuan, with full payment of five insurances and one housing fund; daily overtime hours shall not exceed two hours, a two-day weekend system will be implemented, and national statutory holidays will be enjoyed as normal. Overtime during holidays will be on a voluntary basis, and overtime pay will be calculated at double the rate."
She paused, then added: "The company will uniformly provide standardized four-person dormitories for employees, equipped with basic living facilities. During working hours, the cafeteria will provide three free meals a day, ensuring balanced nutrition. The above policies will be fully implemented in all frontline factories starting today."
As Secretary Zhu's words fell, Chen Yang and the factory management behind him instantly froze in place, the air seemingly solidifying.
After Secretary Zhu finished speaking, Jiang Chen's gaze fell on Chen Yang and the Group of factory managers. His tone was still flat, but carried an undeniable authority: "President Chen, do you have anything to add?"
The color completely drained from Chen Yang's face. He tried to speak several times but couldn't utter a single word.
The factory director and workshop supervisors were even more thunderstruck, standing dumbfounded, their faces filled with panic under Jiang Chen's imposing pressure.
They wanted to offer a few excuses: "We can't meet the deadlines without people."
But under Jiang Chen's calm yet extremely oppressive gaze, the words caught in their throats, and they dared not speak.
As a professional manager, Chen Yang knew that explaining anything to Jiang Chen at this point was useless.
When a leader catches you, it's best to simply admit your mistake; more explanations would only make things worse.
He took a deep breath, suppressed his thoughts, and shook his head vigorously. He stepped forward and said, "Chairman Jiang, it's my problem. All the responsibility lies with me."
"I received the notice from the Board of Directors a long time ago, but because I was solely focused on rushing the progress, I forgot about it. I neither communicated it nor supervised its implementation. It has nothing to do with anyone else. Please punish me alone."
