590: Chapter 1 Meteor Shower

Night.

Yu Zhou City, Yongan Pawnshop.

"Boss!!!"

Xu Maoshan let out a thunderous roar, his voice echoing throughout the premises and making the entire Yongan Pawnshop tremble slightly.

Jing Tian, who was meeting with Pure Subtlety in his dreams, was instantly jolted awake.

He sat up abruptly, crying out "Aiyayayayaya" like a performer in a play. He pounded the bed lightly and asked Xu Maoshan with a hint of reproach, "Why did you wake me up?"

"Aiyayayayaya."

"I was just a bit away, just a tiny bit away from finding that treasure!"

Xu Maoshan blinked, looking completely bewildered. "What treasure?"

Jing Tian's expression turned serious as he replied, "An antique box worth at least two hundred taels. Well, now..."

Before he could finish, he suddenly caught a whiff of a foul odor. He couldn't help but cover his nose and asked Xu Maoshan, "Why does it smell so bad?"

Xu Maoshan said sheepishly, "I didn't eat enough at dinner, so I ate two more sweet potatoes."

Understanding dawned on Jing Tian. He lifted his bare foot and thrust it toward Xu Maoshan's face. "Fighting stench with stench."

Xu Maoshan covered his nose and said, unable to bear it, "You're something else."

Jing Tian immediately made a demand: "Compensate me two hundred taels."

Xu Maoshan was stunned, his eyes widening. "My entire net worth is only three wen."

Jing Tian struck a pose of someone who would squeeze blood from a stone. "You're paying those three wen too."

Helpless, Xu Maoshan turned to dig for his money.

Just then, He Bi Ping walked over with an abacus and said righteously, "Jing Tian, it should be you who owes Mao Mao eight hundred taels."

Jing Tian was taken aback and asked, "Why?"

He Bi Ping replied, "Listen, Mao Mao had a dream the day before yesterday that he was having a feast with a girl in Chang'an..."

Upon hearing this, Xu Maoshan recalled the scene from his dream and gave a silly grin.

A second later, He Bi Ping's tone shifted sharply as he said to Jing Tian, "But you kicked him to the floor and woke him up. As the saying goes, 'A moment of a spring night is worth a thousand gold.' By that logic, you owe him a thousand taels. But since Mao Mao just woke you up and cost you two hundred taels..."

As he spoke, he flicked the beads on his abacus. "Therefore, you should still owe Mao Mao eight hundred taels."

Jing Tian felt a pang of guilt but remained calm on the surface. "Fine, it's just a dream. Why take it so seriously?"

The farce thus came to an end.

At that moment, meteors suddenly appeared in the night sky outside the window, streaking across one after another.

Xu Maoshan happened to see it and immediately cried out in surprise, "Look! A meteor shower!"

After saying that, he ran to the window to watch.

Jing Tian and He Bi Ping followed on either side, and sure enough, they saw the meteor shower.

Then, seeing that their view wasn't wide enough, the three of them walked out of Yongan Pawnshop and went onto an arch bridge.

"So many."

"There are so many!"

Jing Tian and Xu Maoshan cheered one after another.

He Bi Ping, however, seemed to remember something and began spinning in circles on the spot.

Jing Tian was puzzled. "What are you doing?"

Without stopping his movements, He Bi Ping quickly explained, "My father said that the moment you see a meteor shower, spinning three times on the spot can fulfill three wishes."

"Wow, you selfish brat! Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

Jing Tian cried out and immediately began spinning on the spot as well.

Xu Maoshan followed suit and started spinning too.

Before long, He Bi Ping finished his three spins and was about to make a wish when he saw that Jing Tian and Xu Maoshan were still spinning—clearly having exceeded three rotations. He couldn't help but ask, "Why are you two spinning so much?"

Jing Tian replied while spinning, "Didn't you say three spins get you three wishes? If I spin more, I can have more wishes."

Just as he spoke, Xu Maoshan, who was spinning while waving his hands, said, "Boss, I've already spun a few extra times for you. If you don't have enough, just ask me."

Jing Tian smiled appreciatively. "Mao Mao is the best after all."

After finishing their words, the three of them became so dizzy from spinning that they fell to the ground.

A moment later, Jing Tian was the first to recover. He hurriedly stood up and spoke to the meteors, "I'll wish first! I want to be the richest man in Yu Zhou City, I want to be the boss of Yongan Pawnshop, and I want to collect the most expensive treasures. I also want... so dizzy!"

Just then, Xu Maoshan scrambled up and made a wish: "My wish is for all of the boss's wishes to come true."

He Bi Ping, who was the last to recover, took a deep breath and asked Xu Maoshan, "What about yourself? You dummy."

"Me?" Xu Maoshan pointed at himself. His eyes darted around, and he grinned sheepishly. "I want to eat lots of meat, and I want to marry three wives."

Jing Tian laughed. "Make it five."

Xu Maoshan happily changed his mind. "Okay, five wives. I also want to go to Chang'an... Eh, which way is it?"

Jing Tian pointed him in the right direction with a grin.

He Bi Ping remarked, "How vulgar!"

With that, he spread his arms and made a wish: "I want millions upon millions of gold! I want bird's nest and abalone, mountain delicacies and seafood! Ideally, I want my clothes to be covered in gold thread!"

Jing Tian curled his lip, thinking to himself that this wasn't any better.

After thinking so, he turned his head and suddenly saw a fiery red streak of light flying towards him. He subconsciously reached out to catch it and found it was half a jade pendant.

Seeing this, He Bi Ping hurried over to take a look.

But Xu Maoshan cried out, "Boss! A meteor is crashing right toward us! Run!"

Jing Tian and He Bi Ping looked up and saw that it was indeed so—a massive meteor trailing a tail of flames was plummeting toward them.

The two were pale with fright and immediately took off running with Xu Maoshan.

After the meteor crashed and they were sure nothing was out of the ordinary, the three of them crept back.

"Wait, why is it a person?"
