635: Chapter 46 Listening and Not Listening

On the road from Anning Village to Fengdu.

Hong Kui, Lan Kui, and Tang Xuejian were riding together on the Flying Tiger Jade Beast.

Meng Li was riding on a cloud.

Xu Changqing was flying on his Flying Sword.

Jing Tian was flying on his Flying Sword with Xu Maoshan.

As the group flew along, Xu Maoshan suddenly seemed to think of something. Bracing against the wind, he shouted to Meng Li and Xu Changqing, "Grandmaster Meng, Grandmaster Xu, will we pass through Chang'an on our way west?"

Upon hearing this, Meng Li understood.

Xu Maoshan wanted to go see Chang'an.

When he was young, his parents had used the excuse of going to Chang'an for business to entrust him to Jing Tian's parents to raise.

As it turned out, Xu Maoshan's parents never returned after they left.

Since then, visiting Chang'an had become Xu Maoshan's wish, one he dreamed of fulfilling.

Thinking of this, Meng Li replied, "We will."

"Then can we stop in Chang'an for a moment? Let me take a look." Having received a positive answer, Xu Maoshan immediately pleaded.

As soon as he finished speaking, Jing Tian added, "Elder Brother Meng, White Tofu, going to Chang'an has always been the wish of nickname. Why don't we stay in Chang'an for a day and stock up on some dry rations? Otherwise, if we keep flying for days and nights on end, we won't be able to hold up."

"That is fine." Meng Li cast his vote of approval.

Xu Changqing readily agreed, "No problem."

"That's great!"

Xu Maoshan cheered, unable to contain his excitement, and grabbed Jing Tian's shoulders, shaking him.

The Flying Sword beneath their feet was affected and began to wobble from side to side.

Jing Tian was startled and hurriedly tried to steady the Flying Sword while shouting, "nickname, don't get so excited, or we'll fall off!"

Xu Maoshan realized what was happening, quickly suppressed his excitement, and stopped moving.

In the end, they were safe after the scare.

Lan Kui, Hong Kui, and Tang Xuejian, who had gathered around, breathed a sigh of relief when they saw this.

Then, Lan Kui asked, "Are we really going to Chang'an?"

Jing Tian nodded and then said loudly, "I've heard that Chang'an is a great place for food and entertainment. I'll take you all there to have fun when we arrive."

Hearing this, Xu Maoshan beamed with joy, his eyes squinting into slits, and he nodded like a chick pecking at rice while laughing, "Great, great."

Tang Xuejian, however, scoffed and undermined him, "You haven't even been there."

Xu Changqing said, "Miss Xue Jian hasn't been to Chang'an either, right?"

Tang Xuejian's expression froze, and she was speechless. She had to turn her head and urge Lan Kui, "Hurry up."

"Oh."

Lan Kui responded and urged the Flying Tiger Jade Beast to speed up, though she couldn't help but curl her lips into a smile.

Hong Kui, who was sitting at the very front, was the same.

After Meng Li's guidance and spending some time together, she had already realized that Jing Tian and Tang Xuejian were a bickering pair. She had grown accustomed to their daily squabbles and wouldn't do anything to Tang Xuejian over a few words, but she didn't have much affection for her either.

Seeing Tang Xuejian get snubbed at this moment, Hong Kui was naturally somewhat pleased.

Just then, Meng Li's voice suddenly rang in her ears, "What are you thinking about? You're smiling so sweetly."

Hong Kui was slightly startled, hurriedly suppressed the corners of her mouth, and turned her head to see Meng Li looking at her with a smile. She immediately turned back and huffed, "I won't tell you."

After saying that, she urged Lan Kui, "Hurry up."

Lan Kui was left between laughter and tears and could only speed up again.

However, after flying for a while, the group had to stop.

Because Jing Tian and Xu Changqing had limited magic power and needed time to meditate and recover.

It was mainly Jing Tian; he hadn't been Cultivating for long, and his cultivation level was still shallow. Both his magic power and physical strength were far inferior to Xu Changqing's, let alone compared to Hong Kui, Lan Kui, and Meng Li.

Therefore, the group found a grassy area by the river to land.

Once they landed, everyone went about their own tasks.

Meng Li found a place to sit and reviewed what he had gained from his Dao realization earlier.

Hong Kui practiced Internal Alchemy not far away.

Xu Changqing sat cross-legged on the ground and began to meditate, recovering the magic power consumed by flying on his Flying Sword.

Xu Maoshan arranged the luggage.

Tang Xuejian sat on a rock, staring blankly at the river surface.

Jing Tian sprawled out on the ground, "Ah, so comfortable."

Lan Kui took out a water bottle and said, "Brother, drink some water."

Jing Tian waved his hand, "I'm not thirsty, you drink it yourself."

"Oh." Lan Kui responded softly, but didn't drink it herself. Instead, she walked up to Meng Li with the water bottle, "Elder Brother Meng, would you like some water?"

Meng Li withdrew his thoughts, nodded with a smile, took the water bottle, and took a sip from a distance.

At this moment, Xu Maoshan, having set down the luggage, looked to the west and said, "Do you know? Over there, that is Chang'an. The fruit in Chang'an is especially big. The things there are especially delicious. The people there are especially beautiful..."

Before he could finish, Jing Tian said lazily, "You haven't even been there, how do you know?"

Xu Maoshan replied, "I've been there many times in my dreams, Boss."

Jing Tian laughed, "Then I'll dream too, and I'll go once as well."

"It's true." Xu Maoshan said as if guaranteeing it, then lay down next to Jing Tian, "I want to dream about it again too."

However, before the two could fall asleep, Xu Changqing, having finished recovering his magic power, walked up to Jing Tian and advised, "Brother Jing, one cannot Cultivate with inconsistency. You exhausted your magic power after less than half a day of flying on your Flying Sword; you need to Cultivate diligently."

Jing Tian asked lazily, "What does 'one day of sun and ten days of frost' mean?"

Xu Changqing explained, "One day of sun and ten days of frost means..."

Before the words were out, Jing Tian interrupted, "Wow, you're really going to explain it to me? Can you please spare me?"

Xu Changqing squatted down and said earnestly, "Brother Jing, you can't be this lazy..."

"My sister can fly too. This is called 'my sister is born with a purpose'." Jing Tian interrupted again.

As he spoke, he turned around and struck a pose of "not listening, not listening, the turtle is chanting sutras".

Lan Kui was left between laughter and tears.

Hong Kui stopped her Cultivation, wanting to offer some advice.

Unexpectedly, Tang Xuejian spoke first, "This is called 'rotten wood cannot be carved'."

Jing Tian instantly got up and shouted at Tang Xuejian, "Shut up! You, you, you silly girl, and you want to be a heroine? You Pig Woman..."

"You idiot!" Tang Xuejian retorted.

Seeing the two bickering again, Lan Kui pursed her lips, feeling somewhat helpless.

Hong Kui frowned.

Unexpectedly, this time Jing Tian didn't bicker for long before lying flat, letting Xu Changqing take over, "I can't be bothered to talk to you. White Tofu, you talk to her."

Xu Changqing had just wanted to ask Tang Xuejian again about the reason for her sudden hostility towards him, so he agreed and walked up to Tang Xuejian, asking, "Miss Xue Jian..."

"Don't talk to me!" Tang Xuejian turned her head away, refusing to communicate.

Xu Changqing was a bit embarrassed but still patiently asked, "Miss Xue Jian seems full of hostility towards Changqing these past two days. I wonder where I have offended you?"

However, Tang Xuejian's response was nonsensical, "Why should anyone be good to you? How good have you been to others yourself?"

"Good to others?" Xu Changqing was confused and had to ask further, "If I have offended you in any way, please point it out."

"You... even if I told you, you wouldn't understand!" Tang Xuejian stopped herself from saying more, then directly fired a sweeping generalization, "You men are all heartless!"

In an instant, she seemed to feel that this was inappropriate, so she added, "Oh, you have made her sad for one or two hundred years, do you know that?"

Hearing this, Jing Tian was instantly jolted. He did a carp leap to his feet and looked at Tang Xuejian and Xu Changqing.

Xu Changqing was bewildered, the more he heard, the more confused he became, "One or two hundred years?"

"That's right! You..."

Before she could finish, Jing Tian rushed over and covered Tang Xuejian's mouth.

Then, Jing Tian casually made up an excuse to Xu Changqing, "Sorry, sorry, she has heatstroke, I'm taking her to wash her face."

"You, don't come over! Men and women should not touch."

After saying this, he ignored Tang Xuejian's struggle and Xu Changqing's confusion, and dragged Tang Xuejian to the distant riverside.

Xu Changqing remained where he was, frowning in thought.

Hong Kui and Lan Kui, not far away, saw this scene and felt something was very wrong, but they didn't know why.

"What's wrong with Brother and Sister Xue Jian?" Lan Kui asked puzzledly.

"Wouldn't we know if we just listened?"

Meng Li said with a smile, then formed a hand seal, activating the technique from under one person that earned Zhuge Qing the name of "Not Listening to Gossip" — Listening to the Wind Chant!
