679: Chapter 90 The Holy Spirit Orb is Obtained

The seaside of Anxi.

A streak of light landed on the ground, revealing two figures: Meng Li and Xi Feng.

"We've arrived."

Meng Li gave a reminder, then summoned Hong Kui and Lan Kui. He found a secluded spot, took out the fish bone, and cast a spell to open the waterway to the Underwater City, manifesting the Dragon Bridge.

Then, Meng Li took the first step onto the Dragon Bridge.

Hong Kui and Lan Kui followed one after the other.

Finally, there was Xi Feng.

The four of them traveled in silence until they reached the Underwater City.

Upon entering the plaza, Xi Feng immediately saw the stone statue that Shui Bi had become. He walked up to the statue and wanted to reach out to touch it, but halfway through the motion, he withdrew his hand with a hint of timidness. Turning to Meng Li, he asked, "Mr. Meng, what should I do to turn Shui Bi back to her original form?"

Meng Li could have directly undone the Seal, but he felt it would be better for Xi Feng to wake Shui Bi up himself at this moment.

As for the method of awakening...

"Sing. Sing the song you used to sing often."

Xi Feng understood. Standing before the stone statue that Shui Bi had become, he began to hum softly the ballad etched in his memory.

The ballad had no specific lyrics, and Xi Feng's humming lacked any special technique; it relied entirely on his naturally beautiful voice and abundant emotion.

When the humming reached its peak, the stone statue that Shui Bi had become reacted.

Cracks appeared on the statue, and after a series of clicking sounds, it burst open.

Shui Bi, who had self-sealed within it, revealed her form.

She opened her eyes and looked at Xi Feng, her face showing a look of surprise and joy: "Xi Feng, you're back! You've really come back!"

With his appearance no longer ugly, Xi Feng's self-consciousness had naturally vanished.

Hearing this, he smiled and nodded: "I'm back, Shui Bi. You've waited a long time."

Shui Bi excitedly threw herself into his arms and said softly, "It's alright, it's enough that you're back. I knew you would definitely return."

Xi Feng said nothing, only reaching out to hold Shui Bi close.

After a while, the human and the god recovered from the joy of their reunion.

Xi Feng let go of Shui Bi at the right moment, then pointed to Meng Li, who was watching the scene from the side, and said to Shui Bi, "Shui Bi, my successful return is all thanks to Mr. Meng..."

Before he could finish, Meng Li raised his hand and said, "There's no need for polite words. I only did it to fulfill the deal with Lady Shui Bi."

Immediately, he said to Shui Bi, "Lady Shui Bi, I have brought Xi Feng back to you. Where is the sacred spirit pearl?"

"It's here." Shui Bi took a conch out of her bosom and handed it to Meng Li.

Meng Li took it, sensed it for a moment, and extracted the sacred spirit pearl from the conch.

Confirming there were no issues, he put away the sacred spirit pearl, returned the conch to Shui Bi, and then smiled, "The deal is complete. Since there's nothing else, we'll be heading off."

"Thank you for your help, Sir. Let Xi Feng and me see you out."

"No need. You two have just reunited and must have much to say. We won't trouble you. Farewell."

Despite his words, Shui Bi and Xi Feng still saw Meng Li, Hong Kui, and Lan Kui out of the Underwater City before stopping.

Walking on the Dragon Bridge, Lan Kui recalled the story of Shui Bi and Xi Feng and couldn't help but smile, sighing softly, "Shui Bi waited for Xi Feng for so many years, and now they can finally be together. It's truly wonderful that lovers finally find their way to each other."

Meng Li smiled but said nothing.

Seeing this, Hong Kui asked in confusion, "You don't seem to see it that way. Could it be there's still some problem?"

Meng Li sighed softly, "Have you both forgotten? Shui Bi is a god, while Xi Feng, having returned to his original form, is a human. A god can enjoy eternal youth, but humans face birth, aging, illness, and death."

He didn't finish his words, letting the point stand on its own.

Lan Kui and Hong Kui understood instantly.

"Then what can be done?" Lan Kui asked.

Meng Li said helplessly, "There is no way. People have sorrows and joys, partings and reunions; the moon has its phases of dimness and brightness, roundness and incompleteness. This has been difficult to perfect since ancient times."

"Long-lived species and short-lived species have an insurmountable gap in lifespan. Once they fall in love, they are destined to face this problem, and nine times out of ten, it ends in tragedy. If one tries to force it, they inevitably do things that violate the laws of nature, such as a long-lived species harming other living beings to extend the life of a short-lived species."

"Therefore, love between long-lived and short-lived species is often not permitted."

"For example, between humans and demons, humans and devils, or humans and gods."

Hearing this, Lan Kui's joyful mood dampened considerably.

Hong Kui looked thoughtful.

Then, Meng Li changed the subject: "However, this problem doesn't have much to do with us."

"Why?" As soon as the words left her mouth, Lan Kui realized.

She and Hong Kui had lived for over a thousand years, and the same was true for Meng Li.

Compared to ordinary people, they all belonged to long-lived species with unknown lifespan limits. Currently, they didn't have to worry about the issue of lifespan at all.

Thinking of this, Lan Kui's mood brightened again.

Afterward, the three of them talked and laughed until they reached the seaside.

After stepping off the Dragon Bridge, before Meng Li could even cast a spell, the Dragon Bridge disappeared on its own. The waterway vanished as well, and the seawater that had been separated on both sides immediately rushed back together, returning to its original state.

Just as the change was complete, a figure wearing a bamboo hat walked over.

"Little friend, you have good methods indeed, to be able to get someone back from Chonglou." The newcomer was none other than Old Mo Tou.

"It was just luck," Meng Li said modestly, taking out the Demon Venerable Order to return it.

Old Mo Tou waved his hand and said, "That you could help Xi Feng and Shui Bi, those lovers, finally be together is truly a good deed. Keep this item as a souvenir, little friend."

Then, stroking his beard, he said, "The Karma here is settled; this old man should continue his travels. You three, we shall meet again if fate permits."

As the words fell, Old Mo Tou's figure dissipated with the wind.

Hong Kui and Lan Kui looked on with wonder.

After a moment, Hong Kui asked Meng Li, "Who is he?"

"The previous generation's Demon Venerable of the Demon Realm." Meng Li first gave a simple answer, then slowly explained the whole story.

Once the story was finished, he stretched and asked Hong Kui and Lan Kui, "Where should we go next?"

"Naturally, back to reunite with Xue Jian and the others," Hong Kui said without thinking.

"Ah?" Meng Li's expression slumped, then his body collapsed, leaning on Hong Kui as he feigned weakness: "I can't. Between fighting and traveling, my Qi consumption is too high. I can't fly you anymore; I need to rest for a while."

With that, he closed his eyes and tilted his head to rest on Hong Kui's shoulder.

Hong Kui rolled her eyes: "Stop faking! You were fine the whole way here, and now you're suddenly weak? Who are you trying to fool?"

"I'm not faking, I'm really tired."

"Then let Lan Kui drive the Flying Tiger Jade Beast, or I can fly a sword," Hong Kui directly proposed a solution.

Meng Li: "..."

Seeing Meng Li speechless, Lan Kui covered her mouth and smiled, taking over the conversation: "I'll drive the Flying Tiger Jade Beast then. It's a good chance for Elder Brother Meng to rest on the way."

"Then I'll sit in the middle," Meng Li immediately made his request.

With Lan Kui to hold in front and Hong Kui to lean on behind, it would be excellent.

However, Hong Kui saw through his thoughts at a glance and directly vetoed: "No, I'll sit in the middle, you sit in the back."

But Lan Kui said, "Let Elder Brother Meng sit in the middle. That way it'll be more convenient for him to rest."

Meng Li's lips immediately curled upward.

Hong Kui glared at Lan Kui and said crossly, "Go ahead and keep spoiling him."

She didn't believe for a second that Lan Kui hadn't seen through Meng Li's little scheme.

"I'm not! Elder Brother Meng really has worked hard," Lan Kui defended herself, taking out the flying tiger jade pendant, turning it into the Flying Tiger Jade Beast, and then sitting on it.

Meng Li followed, and then Hong Kui.

Once seated, Meng Li reached out to wrap his arms around Lan Kui's slender waist, wanting to pull her into his embrace.

But just as he moved, Hong Kui from behind reached out, pulled his hands back, and held them firmly.

At the same time, her voice sounded in Meng Li's ear: "If you're going to rest, then rest properly. Don't misbehave; Lan Kui needs to drive the Flying Tiger Jade Beast."

Meng Li felt the sensation coming from his back, gave a light cough, and said to Lan Kui who was controlling the Flying Tiger Jade Beast, "Lan Kui, fly a bit slower."

"Ah? Why?"

Meng Li turned his head to look at Hong Kui, who was almost pressed against him. He gave her a light peck on the lips, and while she looked at him reproachfully, he broke free from her hands. He then hugged Lan Kui in front, breathing warm air into her ear as he said, "Fly a bit slower, so we can have more time to spend alone together."

As he spoke, he kissed her earlobe.

Lan Kui shuddered, her cheeks quickly covered in a rosy flush: "But Brother's side..."

"The flow of time in the mortal world and the Divine Realm is different. Let alone flying a bit slower, even if we're delayed for a few days, it will only be a moment on Jing Tian's side—maybe not even a moment. Besides, there's the mystic light mirror. If they really run into trouble, they'll contact us."

"Alright then."
