646: Chapter 57 Let's give it a try
"That Guo Jing looks so dim-witted; are you sure that's you?"
After watching the special version of legend of the condor heroes performed with passion by Jing Tian, Tang Xuejian suppressed a smile and voiced her doubts.
She couldn't help it; some of Guo Jing's foolish antics were just too hilarious to her.
If she didn't press her lips together, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to stop herself from laughing out loud.
Hearing this, Jing Tian retorted unhappily, "What do you mean dim-witted? That's called 'great wisdom appearing as folly'! And don't fixate on those details; they aren't important. You need to have a broader perspective. Look at the ending, for instance—not only was I ranked among the world's Five Masters, but I also became a Great General leading troops in battle."
"Look at that, how impressive, how majestic!"
"And look at Elder Brother Meng and my sister—one a Prince and the other a Princess Consort, a loving couple living a happy and perfect life."
Hearing those words, Lan Kui's cheeks flushed slightly. She stole a glance at Meng Li, but upon meeting his gaze, she shyly lowered her head again.
Hong Kui wasn't particularly shy, though her expression was a bit strained.
Jing Tian continued, "What a great ending this is. It's much better than White Tofu's two lifetimes of tragic love."
After saying that, he asked Xu Maoshan, "nickname, don't you agree?"
Xu Maoshan nodded. "That's right. Boss, the ending of your story in this lifetime is indeed much better than that of Grandmaster Changqing and Miss Zixuan."
Jing Tian immediately raised his eyebrows triumphantly at Tang Xuejian.
Tang Xuejian curled her lip, unable to refute him. Then, her eyes darted around as she teased Jing Tian, "What sister? According to that lifetime, you should be calling Hong Kui and Lan Kui 'Elder Sister.' Come on, call them 'Sister' once so we can hear it."
Jing Tian's expression froze.
Hong Kui and Lan Kui's expressions also became a bit awkward.
They felt it wasn't quite right, yet for some reason, they secretly wanted to hear it.
After a moment, Jing Tian said to Tang Xuejian with a hint of annoyance, "Go away, stop trying to stir up trouble and making a scene."
Tang Xuejian rolled her eyes but didn't press the matter. Instead, she turned to Hong Kui and Lan Kui and remarked with emotion, "I really didn't expect that you two not only shared two lifetimes as family with Stinky Tofu but actually shared a lifetime as husband and wife with Mr. Meng."
Then, she teased, "So in this lifetime, are you two going to continue your past relationship with Mr. Meng, just like Sister Zixuan did with Grandmaster Changqing?"
"Sister Xue Jian!"
Lan Kui's face turned beet red. She called out to Tang Xuejian in bashful annoyance, then stomped her foot, turned around, and ran upstairs back to her room.
"Oh, someone's shy."
Tang Xuejian joked and turned her head to look at Hong Kui.
Hong Kui also felt some shyness in her heart, but she didn't flee like Lan Kui. Instead, she said quite candidly, "And what if we are?"
Meng Li's eyes brightened slightly, and a smile unconsciously touched his face.
Tang Xuejian clapped her hands. "That's wonderful! When you two get married, how about I be your bridesmaid?"
Hong Kui was startled, then said meaningfully, "That's still a long way off. There's an order to things; we have to wait until Brother gets married first."
This time, it was Tang Xuejian's turn to be stunned.
Stinky Tofu getting married?
She subconsciously glanced at Jing Tian and happened to meet his gaze.
For a moment, it was as if both had received an electric shock, and they quickly turned their heads away.
Afterward, Tang Xuejian forced herself to stay calm and said, "Then you'll be waiting a long time. With his pathetic look, I doubt any girl would like him, let alone marry him."
Hearing this, Jing Tian was displeased. "Who are you calling pathetic? I am a grand hero of my generation, the future savior! Plenty of people like me. On the other hand, you're spoiled, headstrong, and nonsensical—you'll definitely never find anyone to marry."
Tang Xuejian couldn't stand being belittled like that and immediately retorted with a sharp tongue.
Soon, the two entered their daily bickering mode.
Meng Li had no interest in participating and simply stood up to go back to his room upstairs.
He had almost finished comprehending the earth Law contained within the earth spirit pearl.
Since he had just obtained the fire spirit pearl, Meng Li planned to continue comprehending the fire Law within it.
But when he pushed open the door, he was surprised to find Lan Kui inside.
Lan Kui was equally surprised by Meng Li's arrival. "Elder Brother Meng, what are you doing here?"
Meng Li laughed in spite of himself. "This is my room."
Lan Kui was stunned for a moment, but upon reflection, she realized it really was Meng Li's room; she had accidentally walked into the wrong one.
She couldn't help but feel immensely embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I went to the wrong room."
As she spoke, Lan Kui was about to leave, but Meng Li reached out to stop her. "Don't be in such a hurry. It just so happens I have something to tell you."
"What is it?" Lan Kui stopped and asked in confusion.
"About us," Meng Li answered simply, then elaborated, "When we first met, I told Hong Kui that I was fond of her. Actually, I feel the same about you, because you are essentially one."
Then, his expression turned serious. Staring into Lan Kui's eyes, he said earnestly and affectionately, "Lan Kui..."
"No, it should be Long Kui."
"Miss Long Kui, I am fond of you and wish to take you as my wife. Would you be willing to marry me?"
Lan Kui froze instantly, her mind going blank.
She had never imagined this scene, let alone experienced it.
In her understanding, even if a marriage proposal were to happen, it should be addressed to her Royal Father and Mother, or at the very least, her Royal Brother.
How could someone speak directly to her? And so bluntly at that.
However, on second thought, her Royal Father and Mother had long since passed away, and her Royal Brother... Brother obviously approved.
Under these circumstances, it seemed there was nothing wrong with Meng Li asking her now.
As for her...
Lan Kui glanced at Meng Li, then lowered her head to fiddle with the corner of her sleeve, whispering, "I... I don't know."
Her greatest obsession was to one day reunite with her Royal Brother and stay by his side forever; marriage was completely out of the question. But after meeting Jing Tian and Meng Li, things had changed imperceptibly.
First of all, Jing Tian was too different from Long Yang and didn't even recognize her; the two were clearly not the same person.
Lan Kui was delicate, but she wasn't stupid, especially since Meng Li had pointed it out before.
This inevitably disappointed her, but because of her thousand-year-old obsession, she still regarded Jing Tian as her brother.
What surprised her was that Meng Li had not only helped Jing Tian "restore" his memories so he would acknowledge her as his sister, but he had also shown them memories of another lifetime.
It turned out the three of them had another connection.
She and Meng Li had even been husband and wife for a lifetime.
With her memories of the Kingdom of Jiang as a foundation, plus the fact that he had the same face and a similar personality, Lan Kui inevitably projected herself onto Mu Nianci.
Under this influence, she inevitably felt differently toward Meng Li.
During their subsequent time together, Meng Li took great care of her and Hong Kui, allowing her to see a trace of her former Royal Brother in him, yet it was different.
Her Royal Brother's feelings for her stemmed from the kinship of blood.
Meng Li's feelings for her and Hong Kui were those of a man for a woman.
This was something she had never experienced before; the feeling was wonderful and impossible to describe or explain.
But one thing was certain: she was happy when she was with him.
This happiness even faintly exceeded the satisfaction derived from fulfilling her obsession of "staying by the side of her brother, Jing Tian."
At this moment, Lan Kui responded to Meng Li with "I don't know"—partly due to a young woman's natural reserve, and partly because her mind was indeed a bit dazed.
Meng Li noticed this and chuckled. "You don't know? Then how about we give it a try?"
Give it a try? How?
Lan Kui was puzzled, but before she could ask, her lips were kissed by Meng Li.
Lan Kui: o((⊙﹏⊙))o?!
