145: play
Inside a mine tunnel, Poison Fang, who was on the way to the meeting point, couldn't help but ask Black Scale, "Brother, what exactly did the Great King tell you before we set off? There's nobody around now, why don't you reveal a little bit to me?"
Facing the question, Black Scale turned back into that silent mute.
"Brother, you're not being fair here. Is it really necessary given our relationship? Besides, it's just the two of us talking, I won't leak anything."
Black Scale held back for a long time before replying, "That's all."
Poison Fang: ?
Seeing Poison Fang's puzzled expression, he added another sentence, "That's all the Great King told me to memorize."
Poison Fang was a bit shocked now. So, the calm and collected look you had earlier, as if you had the whole situation under control, was all just an act, and the information you revealed was all just memorized.
"Then what did it mean when you shook your head?"
"The Great King said that when faced with a question I can't answer, I just need to shake my head, and the enemy will supply the answer themselves."
Poison Fang...
Along the way, Poison Fang didn't ask anything else; that answer had truly rendered him speechless. Soon, the two of them arrived at the meeting point and began to wait.
Not long after, Jonnison also returned to the agreed-upon meeting point, which was an abandoned mine cart storage area.
Several rusted mine carts lay scattered on the ground, their wheels long gone, leaving only broken frames. The air was filled with the pungent smell of rust mixed with coal dust.
"High Priest, you've finally returned." Poison Fang's voice came from behind a mine cart, carrying a hint of anxiety, "This subordinate thought something had happened..."
Jonnison glanced at him and said irritably, "What's the rush? Didn't I just return?"
Black Scale stood silently to the side, like a statue.
"How is it? What information did you manage to gather?" Jonnison asked casually, his gaze scanning the abandoned mine carts, as if he were looking for something.
"Reporting to the High Priest, this subordinate did manage to gather quite a bit of information." Poison Fang immediately perked up and began to report incessantly using his 'nonsense literature' style, "This place is much more complicated than we imagined."
"Oh? How is it complicated?" Jonnison raised an eyebrow, his tone carrying a hint of amusement.
"Just think about it, this is the largest stronghold in the Liberated Zone, so there must be a lot of people! When there are many people, there are many affairs, and when there are many affairs, news flies everywhere. Don't you think that makes sense?" Poison Fang continued talking to himself, completely failing to notice Jonnison's increasingly impatient expression.
"Get to the point." Jonnison interrupted his nonsense.
"Yes, yes, yes, the point is..." Poison Fang scratched his head, "This place doesn't seem peaceful."
"Not peaceful?" Jonnison repeated, recalling what the beast at the registration office had said earlier, "What do you mean by that?"
"Oh, it's just... it's just..." Poison Fang stammered for a long time without being able to explain clearly, "Anyway, it's just not peaceful! This subordinate heard from those Rebel Army soldiers that things have been happening here frequently lately, it's really strange!"
"Strange?" Jonnison sneered, "In other words, you actually don't know anything."
"That's really not it!" Poison Fang said anxiously, "This subordinate also found out that this place seems to be related to that... Beast Gang."
"Beast Gang?" Jonnison's eyes narrowed slightly, thinking of a certain possibility.
"Yes, yes, yes, that's the Beast Gang!" Poison Fang nodded repeatedly, "I heard this Beast Gang is very powerful, they have a huge influence in this Liberated Zone!"
"Hmph, a bunch of rabble." Jonnison said disdainfully.
"High Priest, you shouldn't underestimate this Beast Gang." Poison Fang lowered his voice, "I heard that this Beast Gang is even involved with that... Enlightener!"
"Enlightener?" Jonnison's expression changed, looking at him as if he were an idiot.
"Yes, that's the Enlightener!" Seeing that Jonnison finally reacted, Poison Fang said even more enthusiastically, "I heard this Enlightener is not simple, he..."
"Alright, stop talking." Jonnison interrupted him, "You tell me, which Liberated Zone doesn't have the presence of an Enlightener now? Don't tell me such nonsense again."
He turned around and looked at Black Scale: "What about you? What did you find out?"
Black Scale remained silent, only shaking his head.
"Useless!" Jonnison cursed under his breath.
Just then, a flurry of noisy footsteps came from the depths of the mine tunnel.
"That's them! Catch them!"
"Don't let them get away!"
"High Priest, this is bad! It's the Rebel Army!" Poison Fang exclaimed.
Jonnison's face instantly darkened. He looked up and saw the Rat Beast leading a group of Rebel Army soldiers, charging toward them aggressively.
"Damn it!" Jonnison cursed in a low voice, "How were we discovered so quickly?"
"High Priest, what do we do?" Poison Fang panicked.
"What do we do? What else can we do?" Jonnison snorted coldly, his figure flashing and disappearing. A moment later, his voice came from afar, "Of course... run!"
"Damn it!" Poison Fang spat fiercely; that Old Thing ran really fucking fast.
But despite the cursing, Poison Fang didn't slow down, pulling Black Scale along as they ran.
After running for a while, just going through the motions, Poison Fang and Black Scale exchanged a glance, both seeing the idea of "that's enough" in each other's eyes. Thus, the two tacitly slowed their pace, one cried out "Ouch" pretending to sprain an ankle, and the other cried out "Ah" pretending to trip.
The Rebel Army soldiers swarmed up, tied the two of them up tightly, and escorted them to the place where prisoners were held.
"I say, take it easy!" Poison Fang shouted, grimacing, "We aren't some master thieves, is it necessary to use so much force?"
"Shut up!" A Rebel Army soldier shoved him roughly, "If you say another word, I'll cut your tongue out!"
Poison Fang shrank his neck and didn't dare to make another sound.
Black Scale remained silent, just being pushed forward quietly. He kept his head lowered, seemingly deep in thought.
"Say, buddy, where are you taking us to be locked up?" Poison Fang's eyes rolled around as he began to fish for information again, "This place is pitch black, what if something goes wrong..."
"Less nonsense!" Another Rebel Army soldier interrupted him impatiently, "You'll know when we get there!"
Poison Fang was rebuffed and had no choice but to shut his mouth.
In the mine tunnel, only the sound of heavy footsteps and heavy breathing echoed.
After turning many corners and walking for who knows how long, finally, a glimmer of light appeared before them.
"We're here!" The Rebel Army soldiers pushed Poison Fang and Black Scale into a crude prison cell.
Inside the cell, there was only a dilapidated wooden bed, a filthy toilet, and nothing else.
"I say, this place is just too... crude, right?" Poison Fang couldn't help but complain, "At least give us a blanket or something, how cold it will be at night!"
"It's good enough that you have a place to stay!" The Rebel Army soldier snorted coldly, "Still being picky!"
"No, buddy, we are at least... at least..." Poison Fang was at a loss for words for a moment, not knowing how to continue.
"Are what?" The Rebel Army soldier looked at him mockingly.
"Nothing." After some thought, Poison Fang decided not to say anything more; after all, the more you say, the more mistakes you make.
