35: Magical pets arrive

Ten years had passed in a flash, and this was no longer the barren land it once was. Buildings rose from the ground, row upon row, and various shops adorned the streets. The crowds bustled, making it exceptionally lively.

Piercing hawker cries, car horns, and human chatter intertwined, forming a cacophonous symphony that echoed over this burgeoning city.

Xiang Yan remained hidden in the shadows, like a patient hunter, quietly waiting for his prey to appear.

For him, these ten years were but a fleeting moment in tens of thousands of years.

He sensed the surging crowds in the city, felt the desire and vitality permeating the air, but none of it sparked the slightest interest in him.

Until, a special “visitor” arrived quietly.

It was a rabbit, a small rabbit entirely snow-white, as if carved from the finest mutton-fat jade.

It floated lightly in mid-air, without wings, yet as free as a feather.

Its plump body, soft fur, long ears, and eyes shining like rubies, all seemed so adorable.

It was like an exquisite doll.

Yes, that's not an adjective; this thing's appearance truly looked like a rabbit doll.

This rabbit, in such an unhurried manner, floated into the city.

The surrounding crowds seemed oblivious to this rabbit floating in mid-air, allowing it to weave through them without the slightest notice.

The rabbit's existence seemed to be shielded by an invisible force, independent of this world.

Xiang Yan's eyes suddenly lit up, and a glimmer of excitement flickered in his dark pupils.

As a man who had watched countless films in his previous life, he recognized the origin of this little creature at a glance—a Magical Pet!

Standard equipment!

According to ancient legends, where a Magical Pet appears, a Magical Girl is bound to be born.

As for where this ancient legend came from? These memories have been in his mind for tens of thousands of years; isn't that ancient enough? Isn't that a legend?

Getting back to the point, the appearance of a Magical Girl meant that the long-awaited drama was about to unfold.

Mahou Shoujo, indeed!

Prepare for the defeat CG!

Prepare to savor the ultimate humiliation I have for you!

Blanched!

I'm so excited I can't control myself, nya!

The rabbit, leisurely floating in the air, had no idea that its future partner was being targeted by someone with a mind full of colorful thoughts.

The rabbit's ruby-like eyes curiously surveyed the unfamiliar city, its small nose twitching slightly, as if sniffing for something.

Suddenly, the rabbit stopped floating. It wiggled its body, its soft limbs swaying slightly, and then flew towards an inconspicuous alley.

“Hmm?” Xiang Yan frowned slightly. This script seemed wrong; shouldn't it be heading straight for the girl?

Xiang Yan silently followed behind the rabbit, observing this “Magical Pet” with great interest. It didn't seem to be in a hurry to find a contractor like in the legends; instead, it wandered around the city like a curious tourist.

At times, it paused before dazzling display windows, its ruby-like eyes reflecting the colorful merchandise; at other times, it darted into bustling markets, deftly dodging at people's feet without attracting any attention.

Its pink nose twitched, as if sniffing various strange scents in the air, occasionally emitting a faint “huff” sound, as if expressing some emotion.

Even stranger to Xiang Yan was that this rabbit would occasionally stop and leave a mark in certain places.

These marks emitted faint energy fluctuations, yet no one could detect them.

Xiang Yan secretly noted the locations of these marks, his heart filled with doubt, and continued to follow the rabbit's footsteps.

What on earth was this rabbit up to?

This rabbit explored every corner of the city, not even sparing the suburbs.

After its activities in the suburbs, it then went to the surrounding wilderness areas, flying around in the wild, leaving more mysterious marks. Finally, it returned to the location of the first mark it left in the city and stopped.

It curled up, as if gathering strength, and then, very abruptly, its figure disappeared.

Of course, in Xiang Yan's eyes, the rabbit didn't truly vanish. At that moment, the rabbit crossed layers of space, entered a temporarily opened subspace, and fell into a deep sleep.

It could even open temporary spaces?

Impossible, according to my observations, this guy's power isn't enough to do such a thing.

Is it a special racial talent?

“Interesting...” he murmured, then his figure flickered, heading towards the marks the rabbit had made.

Twenty years, for Xiang Yan, was but a flick of a finger.

He had carefully observed those marks, trying to decipher the mysteries hidden within them.

Although, to some extent, having inherited memories meant he was well-read, knowing everything from astronomy to geography. He could discuss various supernatural systems with others.

But only to the extent of being able to discuss them briefly.

He was truly illiterate when it came to supernatural systems based on the deep development of the world itself.

Although he wasn't without a way to analyze it, don't forget, he was still unregistered.

But there was another way, just one word: wait!

Once your results are out, I'll reverse-engineer your process.

In this helpless situation, Xiang Yan could only continue to observe in secret.

He was like a ghost, wandering through the city's streets and alleys, watching all the changes.

Twenty years was enough for a city to undergo earth-shattering changes.

The once emerging city had now become a prosperous modern metropolis, with skyscrapers rising, neon lights flashing, traffic flowing like water, and a cacophony of human voices.

However, beneath this veneer of prosperity, a hidden undercurrent surged.

After years of observation and calculations using his abilities, Xiang Yan finally gained some understanding of these marks.

He speculated that these marks were likely the base points of some Magic Circle, and the technique for this Magic Circle was quite advanced.

It could self-perfect even with only the base points laid out, and even perform some auxiliary functions, such as amplifying emotions, both positive and negative, and sealing space.

This sealed space was not for matter, but for the energy generated by the amplified emotions, preventing them from escaping the city.

Over time, the city accumulated a vast amount of positive and negative energy, like a huge powder keg, ready to ignite at any moment.

Xiang Yan stood atop the city's tallest building, overlooking the brilliantly lit metropolis, and then looked at the gradually increasing energy around him. “Rabbit, what exactly do you want to do?”

On a calm afternoon, Xiang Yan, as usual, was carrying out his rabbit observation work.

This little fellow was curled up in the subspace, breathing evenly, just like an ordinary pet, completely normal.

If he hadn't been watching it from the start, who would have thought that such a seemingly harmless creature could be a great schemer planning something?

Looking at the positive and negative energies generated by various emotions fluttering everywhere in the city.

“Gulp.”

Xiang Yan swallowed again. He really wanted a bite.

These energies constantly floating before his eyes were truly testing his self-control.

He could even imagine the wonderful taste of these energies once he devoured them.

Don't use this to test a cadre!

A cadre can't stand the test!

...“Slap!”

Xiang Yan raised his hand and slapped himself, the crisp sound echoing in the silent air.

Xiang Yan, for the Nth time, forced himself to calm down, soothing the rising distracting thoughts in his heart.

After reciting the “Ice Heart Incantation” several more times, “A heart like ice, unmoved by falling skies, constant amidst change, serene in spirit, selfless and focused, with roots firmly set...” his heart finally regained its calm.

Having adjusted his mindset, Xiang Yan looked up at the sky again, only to find that something was amiss.

The originally chaotic energies now became orderly, as if drawn by some force, slowly surging in two directions.

Xiang Yan's gaze was sharp, immediately locking onto the two focal points where energy converged: one was the first mark left by the rabbit, which was where the rabbit was sleeping, and the other was the last mark left by the rabbit.

He saw the space where the rabbit was located tremble slightly. It seemed to sense something as well, slowly opening its ruby-like eyes.

The little creature lightly leaped, returning to real space, floating beside the mark it had left, quietly waiting.

When the last wisp of energy in the city was completely absorbed, a strange transformation occurred.

At the rabbit's location, the mark emitted a dazzling white light. The light gradually solidified, eventually transforming into a crystal-clear white crystal, radiating a soft glow.

The other mark, however, transformed into a pitch-black crystal, like an abyss, devouring all surrounding light.

After the two crystals formed, the rabbit first opened its mouth and swallowed its white crystal in one gulp.

The action was clean and swift, without the slightest hesitation.

Immediately after, it took light steps in mid-air and rushed towards the black crystal.

Once the rabbit reached the black crystal, Xiang Yan witnessed an exquisite “cutting” performance.

The rabbit raised its tiny paw, which, despite looking like a doll's paw, acted like a small, precise blade, accurately cutting the black crystal.

It divided the crystal into two portions: one was 1/5 of its original size, and the other was 4/5 of its original size.

It left the 1/5 portion of the crystal in place, and unceremoniously swallowed the remaining 4/5.

Watching the rabbit's method of cutting the crystal, Xiang Yan couldn't help but silently give it a thumbs-up in his heart.

Had he not witnessed it with his own eyes, he would truly have believed that the crystal was naturally formed.
