239: Chapter 239 "A monster like you, no one will ever love you!"
A small shadow glided into the room along with the moonlight.
The malevolent aura on Heng Zhou dissipated. "It's you."
Guo Guo nimbly climbed onto his bed.
She burrowed into his arms, found a comfortable position—
And lay down.
Heng Zhou's body stiffened; he didn't like being so close to others.
He was just about to move.
Guo Guo suddenly raised her little face, blinking her large deep-purple eyes as she stared at Heng Zhou.
He felt the warmth of Guo Guo's body heat and felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of peace, even a desire to care for her.
He thought this was probably the reaction a beastman should have toward his biological Cub.
It was naturally different from the way the Former Beast God treated those of them who were not his biological children.
"Why are you here?
Aren't you very tired today?"
Heng Zhou covered Guo Guo with the furs he was wearing and even tucked her in.
"Miss... Daddy!"
Just these three words dispersed the gloom Heng Zhou had felt all day.
One corner of his mouth curled up, and he said intentionally, "How do you know I'm your daddy?"
To protect Guo Guo's safety.
When he saw in Jiao Luo's mind that she believed Guo Guo was born of Prince Jiaoli and Tang Ruan,
He did not correct her thinking and even showed anger at the appropriate time.
Because he and little A-Wu had conceived her while their Energy was under the Seal.
Guo Guo was affected by the Seal; while she was inside little A-Wu, her Energy had been suppressed.
Plus, she was small to begin with and didn't have much Energy.
So, even though Jiao Luo drank her blood, she didn't feel any change in her own Energy.
Thus, she assumed that Guo Guo had not inherited his Power of the Beast God.
Guo Guo pointed her finger at her little head, looking at Heng Zhou very seriously.
Her little brows gradually furrowed, and her mouth was tightly pursed, her face turning red from the effort.
Heng Zhou couldn't help but burst out laughing.
He knew she wanted to imitate him and transmit her thoughts directly into his mind.
But she was too small and couldn't do it yet.
Heng Zhou caught Guo Guo's little hand, held it in his palm, and pressed it against her temple.
He quietly activated his Supernatural Ability.
[Can you hear me?]
Guo Guo heard Heng Zhou's voice echoing in her mind.
She nodded vigorously in excitement.
[You can also tell me your thoughts.]
Guo Guo blinked, so nervous her mind went blank; it felt as if a barrier stood between them.
Heng Zhou guided her patiently: [How do you know I'm your daddy?]
Guo Guo: [I heard it.]
[I confirmed that beastman's thoughts; he wasn't lying.]
[So that's how it is,] Heng Zhou said with a proud smile in his eyes. [Guo Guo is so clever!]
Guo Guo's round little face was tinged with a faint pink under the moonlight.
[Daddy!] Guo Guo suddenly called him very seriously. [I have something very important to tell you.]
Heng Zhou: [Go ahead.]
Guo Guo: [Mommy knows.]
[Knows what?] Heng Zhou didn't catch on immediately.
Suddenly, he realized what she meant.
"When did she find out?" Heng Zhou gripped Guo Guo's shoulders excitedly.
Guo Guo was a bit startled, thinking he was angry.
When the three of them were in the same room, she had peeked at her daddy and mommy's thoughts out of curiosity.
Because she couldn't understand why her mommy firmly believed she wasn't her biological child.
But she had peeked and saw that Daddy was very worried about Mommy remembering things from the past.
What were those "things from the past"?
Daddy deliberately avoided recalling them, and Mommy had completely forgotten.
Until—
[Before we left the room, Mommy was suddenly in a lot of pain.]
[I wanted to know what was wrong with her.]
[So, I probed her thoughts and saw many things.]
[What did you see?] Heng Zhou asked nervously.
[I saw that Guo Guo came out of Mommy's body.]
[I saw Daddy pick Mommy up and Daddy kiss Mommy.]
[I saw...]
Guo Guo's voice trailed off. Heng Zhou asked excitedly, "What else?"
[Daddy made Mommy forget... things related to Daddy... and me...]
Guo Guo lowered her head and suddenly started crying, feeling wronged.
She didn't understand why Daddy wanted Mommy to forget her.
Had she done something wrong?
But back then, she was just an egg!
Guo Guo felt extremely aggrieved.
It was all because Daddy did that; even now, Mommy doesn't know she's her biological child.
She heard that Mommy had laid another egg, with Uncle Fen Tian.
Moreover, that egg was already hatching.
Once the Cub inside that egg came out, Mommy would stop loving her entirely; she would only love her "own" Cub.
Heng Zhou saw Guo Guo crying so sadly.
He couldn't help but pull her into a tight hug.
"I'm sorry, Guo Guo. Daddy didn't do it on purpose.
Daddy did it because... I thought Mommy would be happier this way."
He leaned close to her ear and whispered.
[Mommy would be happier without Daddy and me?]
Guo Guo did not realize that, unknowingly, she no longer needed the assistance of Heng Zhou's Supernatural Ability to communicate her thoughts to him smoothly.
[Yes.]
This response, even though it echoed in the mind, was still very, very soft.
Guo Guo thought about it very seriously.
[Mommy doesn't like Daddy...]
She didn't even use a questioning tone.
Beastmen with mental Supernatural Abilities were all very sensitive.
She could feel that Mommy's feelings for Daddy and for her other Beast Husbands were different.
If Mommy hadn't met those Beast Husbands, would she have loved her and Daddy?
As soon as this thought entered her mind,
Guo Guo immediately blocked it.
This was the first time she had blocked a thought that was halfway through being transmitted.
She pulled out of Heng Zhou's embrace, her eyes wide as she looked at him nervously.
She was terrified that he already knew what she was thinking.
Although she wanted Mommy to love her,
Mommy's other Beast Husbands were really good to both Mommy and her.
She didn't want Daddy to hurt them.
Guo Guo stared fearfully into Heng Zhou's pale purple eyes.
They felt as cold as ice under the moonlight.
Suddenly, Heng Zhou gave a smile, one filled with bitterness.
"I won't," he promised. "I will never do anything to make her sad."
Seeing that Guo Guo still seemed uneasy,
He reached out, pulled her over, held her in his arms, and began to hum a song softly.
He had learned this song from a member of the Jiao Clan who lived at the foot of Beast God Mountain.
It was very effective for coaxing little A-Wu to sleep.
It was just as effective for coaxing Guo Guo.
Before long, Guo Guo fell asleep, and drowsiness washed over him as well.
In a half-asleep state, he remembered little A-Wu's reaction during the day.
During the time she was with him, although he hadn't physically forced her, he had indeed enticed her.
And he had taken advantage of her psychological state at the time, when she only remembered Fen Tian and himself and was extremely dependent on him.
Yet after finding out the truth, she was still able to pretend she didn't know and have Fen Tian save him.
And even found someone to treat him.
She was still as kind as before; a monster like him simply didn't deserve to have her.
Heng Zhou felt guilty for his earlier thought of wanting to kill her Beast Husband.
His vision grew darker and darker...
Suddenly, he heard a voice.
"A monster like you, no one will ever love you!"
