6: Chapter 6 Send them to feed the wild animals
Tang Ruan stepped forward.
It would soon be noon.
By then, the water temperature would rise to fifty degrees.
Scalding, heatstroke, dehydration, internal organ damage...
None of them would survive!
Tang Ruan wasn't sure if Lang Lie was aware of this.
If he did, then what he was doing now was "boiling a frog in lukewarm water."
How cruel!
"You're going to take us there?" the shorter male beastman spoke again, his eyes filled with distrust.
"Yes, I'll take you there. Let them out first," Tang Ruan said to Lang Lie.
Just then, Lang Chi and the black wolf also returned.
Lang Lie said to Lang Chi, "Go with her and take a look."
"No!" Tang Ruan cried out. "It's very dangerous there. If only two people go, they definitely won't come back."
"Dangerous?" Lang Lie's cold gaze fell on her face again.
Tang Ruan felt an invisible pressure that forced her to lower her head.
"There are many wild beasts in Yougu Forest. Taking me along will only slow you down..."
"At least..."
"At least three people must come with me."
There were five of them in total; she would take three away.
With only two left, even if they tried to do something to the Marmot Beastmen, there would still be a chance to resist.
Lang Lie frowned slightly. Where there were wild beasts, there was prey.
This was common knowledge among beastmen.
He nodded.
"Lang Mo, Lang Yu, get them out and keep a close watch!"
He turned to the shorter male beastman. "Lang Feng, you and Lang Chi come with me."
"Alright, Boss."
The three transformed into their Beast Forms, and Tang Ruan walked ahead of the three giant wolves.
"Tang Ruan!"
As she passed near Tudou, the latter called out softly in worry.
Tang Ruan gave her a reassuring look.
Don't worry.
She would either feed them well or use them to feed the beasts of Yougu Forest!
When Tang Ruan first arrived in the Beast World, she thought about how to go back every day.
She had once explored Yougu Forest.
That time, she had stumbled upon a ten-meter-long giant python fighting a two-meter-tall wild boar.
Eventually, the wild boar was strangled to death.
Because Tang Ruan was covered in volcanic mud...
...the sated python couldn't be bothered with such a disgusting little thing, allowing her to escape with her life.
However, she hadn't dared to go back since then.
Not long after the four entered the forest, they found a hen.
It was a chicken raised by Tang Ruan.
Before she could react...
Lang Chi had already bitten it to death and swallowed it.
The poor little hen didn't even get a chance to squawk before it met its maker.
Tang Ruan's legs went weak with fear.
She thought to herself that Little Red Riding Hood was truly brave!
"There really is food!" Lang Chi said excitedly.
Then, he belatedly looked at Lang Lie.
Uh... shouldn't the prey be given to the Alpha first?
He was so hungry he had forgotten...
Fortunately, Lang Lie had grown up with them.
He didn't mind.
His gaze was currently fixed on the little Female Beastman beside him.
"Can you keep walking?" Lang Lie asked.
Tang Ruan thought he had seen her legs shaking and was showing concern.
She said casually, "I'm fine, I can manage."
"Then hurry up."
Tang Ruan: "..."
Tang Ruan sprinted all the way while the wolves strolled leisurely.
As they went deeper into the forest, the trees grew taller and the light grew dimmer.
Tang Ruan stopped when they reached a place where it was almost pitch black.
She pointed into the darkness ahead.
"This is the entrance to Yougu Forest. The prey you want is inside."
Three pairs of bright eyes glowed in the dark.
"You're not coming in with us?" Lang Feng's voice rang out.
A pair of glowing yellow eyes approached her, and hot breath brushed against Tang Ruan's neck.
She subconsciously moved to the other side and bumped into a furry wall.
Tang Ruan: "..."
Lang Lie: "..."
"It's very dark inside, and I can't see. I'll definitely be eaten if I go in," Tang Ruan said nervously.
"Don't the Marmot Tribe have excellent vision in the dark?" Lang Feng pressed, moving even closer.
Tang Ruan had nowhere to retreat and could only press against the furry wall.
She looked up at the two points of icy blue light on the "wall."
This beast, why won't he move?
"I'm not a Marmot Beastman. I fell here by accident, lost my memory, and was rescued by them."
"No wonder..." Lang Chi suddenly spoke, a hint of a smile in his voice. "You're so good-looking."
"You can't stay here," Lang Lie said coldly.
"But I can't see..." Tang Ruan tried to argue.
Sending them in was like delivering a meal to the giant beasts.
What would she be if she went in?
Dessert?
"No!"
Lang Lie refused again.
Though it was only one word, the pressure of the powerful beastman made everyone afraid to utter another syllable.
After a moment...
Tang Ruan said, "Fine, but can I bring something in with me?"
She took two stones from her waist and fumbled around on the ground for a while.
Two scritching sounds followed.
A spark flew out, instantly igniting a bunch of dry straw.
The firelight dimly illuminated the surroundings.
From beneath Lang Lie, Tang Ruan saw the "scenery" on the other side—intertwined thorns as sharp as blades.
She couldn't help but be startled.
No wonder he didn't move when she bumped into him.
If he had moved just now and she had bumped into those, she would be nearly dead by now.
She suddenly felt a bit of gratitude toward Lang Lie.
Sending him to his death seemed a bit too cruel now.
However, in the next second...
The flame was snuffed out by a giant wolf paw!
"Heavenly Fire!"
"Heavenly Fire!"
Lang Feng and Lang Chi had probably been shocked into silence earlier and only now remembered to shout.
"What are you trying to do?" Lang Lie growled, baring his forest-white teeth.
Tang Ruan fell to the ground in terror.
"To... to provide light."
"You want to burn us to death." Lang Lie stepped closer.
His paw rested on her chest.
Sharp claws pressed against her neck.
"No, if I wanted... wanted to burn you to death..."
...I wouldn't survive either!"
Perhaps finding logic in Tang Ruan's words...
Lang Lie retracted his claws.
Tang Ruan gasped for air.
She certainly remembered Lang Lie saying that Heavenly Fire had caused many deaths and injuries among his tribe.
She just wanted to scare them away.
Or at least make them give up on the idea of taking her inside.
"This kind of thing! Never let it appear before me again!"
"Oh!"
Tang Ruan obediently threw away the flint stones.
"Then I'll wait for you here—"
"Get on!"
Before Tang Ruan could finish...
Lang Lie suddenly crouched down beside her.
Tang Ruan: "..."
"What... what do you mean?" Tang Ruan asked.
Lang Chi and Lang Feng were also stunned.
Only a Mistress or the old, weak, and disabled could ride on a male beastman's back.
Tang Ruan was clearly none of those.
Then the Boss's meaning was...
"You're so weak. Since you're afraid of dying, following us is the safest option."
Oh, so it was because she was "weak."
A misunderstanding, just a misunderstanding.
Tang Ruan really couldn't find any other reason.
She could only obediently climb on.
After entering the giant cave, they had truly entered Yougu Forest.
It was warm and humid here, very suitable for reptiles and burrowing animals.
In some places, skylight filtered down, making it even brighter than outside.
"Boss, this place looks just like the cave we used to live in!" Lang Chi said excitedly.
"Stay alert," Lang Lie said cautiously.
They reached a fork in the path where two caves appeared.
"Little Female Beastman, which way?" Lang Lie asked.
"Left!" Tang Ruan said without hesitation. That was where she had encountered the giant python and the wild boar.
Lang Lie suddenly gave a cold laugh.
"Didn't you just say you couldn't see anything?"
