Chapter 270: Valeris, The Capital City

The carriage slowed as it approached the massive stone gate of Velaris, and one of the guards raised a hand for them to stop."Your entry permit," one of the guards asked.

Inside the carriage, Liam turned to Chrises and nodded.

"I will handle it," Chrises said, before stepping from the carriage and walking to the guards.

Meanwhile, inside the carriage, Liam allowed his mind to wander. He was trying to organise himself and his plans.

While he already understood a bit about this world from what Chrises told him, there was still a lot he doesn’t know. But learning everything about this world would take time.

But the web of tasks that pulling him between the three universes is the problem. The problem for him was time. He had too much of it and too little at the same time.

It was a paradox only someone like him could understand.

He sighed softly to himself, as he couldn’t help but feel that maybe he had been too impatient.

He felt that maybe he should had taken his time to establish himself fully in his home universe and dominate it completely before moving on to the other two.

Liam chuckled lightly when he thought of this. He knew that thinking about it now won’t solve anything. It was already spilt milk. Besides, there was no wrong or right time. There was no such thing as a perfect time.

Yes, he could had waited to completely dominated Earth and his home universe but who knows how long that would take? Years? Decades? Centuries?

If he waited to "finish" one universe before expanding, he might spend half a lifetime trying to reach a goal that kept growing each day.

He knew that what matters isn’t when or but how he goes about it. Now, that both the cultivation universe and the magic universe is open to him, the only thing he can do is to move forward.

Moving forward was the only path. Progress did not wait for comfort. And he didn’t need comfort. He only needed a clear mind.

"It shouldn’t be too difficult," Liam smiled and muttered to himself.

Chrises climbed back into the carriage the next moment.

"Done," she said with a satisfied smile.

"Was there any trouble?" Liam asked.

"No. We have been given permission to enter the capital," Chrises replied.

Liam nodded and watched through the window, as the carriage slowly rolled through the gates and into the capital.

The carriage continued moving until it slowly rolled to a stop. Chrises picked up the duffel bag that her dresses were in and stepped out of the carriage, and Liam followed behind.


The adventurers who escorted them stood nearby, waiting.

Chrises turned toward them and bowed her head slightly. "Thank you for your protection. You’ve all done well."

The men nodded with respect. Even though they still didn’t understand Liam, they now understood Chrises far better. They knew she was a former B-Rank adventurer and a capable fighter, so her tone carried natural weight.

"Safe travels," the escort leader said, as he guided the horse carriage away.

When they were gone, Chrises turned back toward Liam and noticed him staring ahead, lost in the scene in front of him.

The capital was bustling. Bustling couldn’t even begin to describe it. Though it was bustling, it didn’t actually look crowded.

Liam saw people everywhere. The flow of the crowd was smooth, steady, and nothing like Astrin. Their clothes were cleaner, brighter, better stitched. Even the way they walked felt different—confident, busy, focused.

The air itself felt more alive. Merchants shouted prices, children ran between adults, and the smell of baked bread drifted from a nearby stall. The capital had a pulse. It was obvious the moment you stepped through the gates.

But what caught Liam’s attention most were the guards.

They stood near the inner gate, spaced evenly, each one holding a spear or sword. Their stances were steady. Their armour looked well-kept. Their eyes were sharp. These weren’t random soldiers dragged from villages. They were trained and disciplined.

Liam smiled faintly.

I wonder how strong they are. And how long I’d last against the best among them.

Chrises’ voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

"The view is beautiful, isn’t it?" she said.

Liam muttered, "Yeah... it is," under his breath.

Chrises chuckled. "You can enjoy it later. We need to find somewhere to stay."

Liam laughed lightly. Her tone wasn’t harsh, but it carried a natural confidence that came from years of adventuring.

She smiled a little. "I’ll look for an inn. You can walk around if you want."

Liam nodded. "Get a single room. I won’t be sleeping."

Chrises paused. She studied him for a moment, like she wanted to ask something—but chose not to. She simply nodded. "Alright."

She took a step away.

Liam suddenly said, "I forgot to ask... what do you think of the dress?"

Chrises stopped mid-step.

A soft blush rose on her cheeks as she looked down at her outfit. "It’s... beautiful," she said quietly before turning away quickly.

Liam chuckled and shook his head at her reaction.

She was wearing a black office-style outfit. A fitted jacket. A clean skirt. Black knee-high socks. Light boots. She looked composed, sharp, and surprisingly elegant.

He hadn’t bought those clothes from any tailor here. They were Lucy’s.

Lucy had made them for herself. It was light, durable, and far more protective than ordinary body armour back on Earth, as it can withstand even armour piercing rounds.

Liam smiled to himself and slipped his hands into his pockets. With Chrises gone, he took a slow look around the capital again, letting the new world unfold in front of him.

As he walked, he observed his surroundings and took note how everyone were interacting with each other. He also noticed that there was some people looking at him strangely.

His alien clothes and the fact that he looks out of place was attracting too much attention that he would want to himself..

He sighed softly and continued walking. He wasn’t bothered by their stares and chatters. The only thing that bothers him is when they are stupid enough to come after him, in an attempt to walk over him, take advantage of him or put him in his place.

And just as he thought, he noticed some people coming his way. He turned back to take a look at them and he saw that they were just a bunch of kids his age, dressed in what looks like matching uniforms.

He heard them calling out to him, using weird titles like "the person in strange clothes" and he sighed tiredly.

"Is this another Xuan Yu?" Liam muttered to himself, as he slowed his steps, allowing them catch up to him.

The next moment, one of them caught up and Liam turned to look at the person.

"Hey. Why were you walking away from me when I was calling you? I just want to know where you bought the clothes you’re wearing," one of them, a male, the leader of the four people group, asked.
