53: Because...I am a Night Hunter!

Chapter 53: Because... I am a Dark Night Hunter!

Three days later, Xu Jingzhe was already far from Musileke City.

He stood on a high ground, looking back, his view obstructed by mountains.

Before he came to the Pollution Zone, he had repeatedly hidden in cramped small rooms, covering his head with bedding, and using his phone to bypass the firewall and access the internet.

The internet said that the Pollution Zone was very, very large, twice the size of the High Molecular Compound Zone.

So how big was the High Molecular Compound Zone? A high-speed train traveling at 800 kilometers per hour, running non-stop, would take a full six months to travel from east to west!

In this vast land, finding five people was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Ahead, there was a group of zombies.

Not many, about twenty or thirty.

Xu Jingzhe carried his AWM and strode towards them. He blew on his fist and smashed it down onto a zombie's head.

“Crack!” This time, he succeeded; the zombie’s head was knocked off.

After all, he was getting stronger little by little.

It was just, perhaps, a little too slow.

“Hungry...”

“Hungry...”

The remaining two dozen zombies surrounded him, their feet dragging on the ground, their movements stiff.

Xu Jingzhe showed no mercy, knocking off all their heads, leaving only one 'alive'.

He picked up a zombie head that had just been knocked off and was still trailing brain matter, using it to scare the last zombie, and asked, “Brother, have you seen a... um...”

“A handsome guy who's a little less handsome than me, with fiery red hair, and a bit gay-ish?”

The zombie, with only one eyeball left, seemed to fall into a brief thought, its bony index finger in its rotten mouth.

“Hungry...”

“Hungry...”

Five minutes later, it pulled out its finger and slowly pointed in a direction.

North.

“You’re not lying to me, are you? If you lie, I’ll knock your head off.” Xu Jingzhe threatened.

“Hungry...”

“Hungry...”

“Never mind, thank you for the directions.” Xu Jingzhe picked up a stone and stuffed it into the zombie’s mouth.

He got annoyed hearing 'hungry' because he was hungry too, and could only eat acorns.

The zombie watched Xu Jingzhe’s retreating back, its cloudy eyeballs seeming to gain a hint of clarity, and stood rooted, falling into deeper thought.

He traveled north, eating acorns.

At night, a bright, jade-like moon rose from the east, illuminating the land.

Xu Jingzhe sat in a dilapidated shack, lit a fire, ate acorns, and pondered life.

Suddenly, footsteps approaching from a distance interrupted his thoughts.

Seeing the firelight in the house, a few people stopped.

Soon, a person appeared at the door.

“Hello, may we sit and rest for the night?”

Xu Jingzhe looked up, clearly seeing the newcomer.

He nodded.

“Hey, they’re not from the High Molecular Compound Zone.” He called back.

There were four people in total. After nodding to Xu Jingzhe, they sat down on the other side.

One of them went out to collect some firewood, then caught a few spiders the size of washbasins and roasted them over the fire.

The smell of roasted meat filled the air. A spider was handed to Xu Jingzhe, and the person said, “Little brother, want one?”

“Thank you, I’ve already eaten.” Xu Jingzhe replied politely.

The person didn’t insist, sat cross-legged a few meters away from Xu Jingzhe, and initiated a conversation: “Little brother, where are you headed? Are you also looking for someone, like us?”

However, his eyes inadvertently swept over the AWM.

Xu Jingzhe's heart stirred, and he said, “Are you brothers too?”

“Of course, who wouldn’t want a piece of the pie? Someone in Musileke City has announced that anyone who can find the five people who stole the Moon Soil Evolution Fluid Pure Liquid will receive half a bottle of Moon Soil Evolution Fluid Pure Liquid of the same specifications.”

“Also, twenty pollution cores from ten years, ten pollution cores from twenty years, and two from thirty years.”

“With such a high reward, who wouldn’t be tempted? People from the outer reaches of the Pollution Zone are venturing deeper, disregarding their lives.”

“You should know, you only need to find these people, not risk your life to capture them.”

Xu Jingzhe nodded, only then realizing why he hadn't encountered many Contaminants in the outer reaches of the Pollution Zone a few days ago.

He sneered inwardly, looking for people, huh?

Tonight, he would send these brothers on their way. Floating would surely be faster than walking.

“Little brother, seeing you’re alone, why don’t you join us? We can go together?”

“My name is Wang Qiang, you can just call me Brother Qiang.”

He extended his greasy, dirty hand, wanting to shake Xu Jingzhe’s hand. Then, realizing it was inappropriate, he wiped it on his pants and said, “We’re all men, don’t mind it.”

Xu Jingzhe shook Wang Qiang’s hand and smiled, “Then thank you, Brother Qiang. Traveling alone, I’m always on edge.”

“However, I heard it’s almost a month since the Moon Soil Evolution Fluid Pure Liquid was stolen from Musileke City. How are we going to find those five people?”

Wang Qiang stuffed a large piece of spider leg meat into his mouth, his cheeks bulging, and said, “Hmph, if those five want to live, they most likely went north. So, everyone looking for them knows to go north!”

“There’s a legend in the Pollution Zone: the Land of the Sacred Mountain, forbidden to mortals.”

“Brother Qiang, I’ve only been in the Pollution Zone for less than half a year, so I don’t quite understand what you’re saying.” Xu Jingzhe shifted his butt, moving closer to Wang Qiang.

And he actively picked up a roasted spider from the ground, helping Wang Qiang peel off the spider legs.

Wang Qiang looked at Xu Jingzhe with approval. This kid knows how to handle things.

No wonder he could survive in the Pollution Zone alone until now, and even get an AWM sniper rifle.

“The Sacred Mountain is also known as Kunlun. Legend has it that it was once a place where gods lived. But later, Blue Star’s resources were depleted, and the gods had no choice but to leave Blue Star to search for a suitable home in the universe.”

“And after they left, Kunlun was sealed by an invisible force. Countless people found Kunlun but simply couldn’t break the prohibition.”

“Repeated attacks resulted in the loss of no less than hundreds of thousands of Contaminants, and even over a hundred fifty-year Contaminants died.”

“Since then, the saying has spread: The Land of the Sacred Mountain, forbidden to mortals.”

“This is a secret, I don't tell just anyone.” Wang Qiang said proudly.

He raised an eyebrow at the peeled spider leg meat Xu Jingzhe had prepared, and Xu Jingzhe immediately handed it over.

“Brother Qiang isn’t bragging, although Brother Qiang isn’t very strong, my network of connections is extensive, and I know many secrets of the Pollution Zone.”

Xu Jingzhe gave a thumbs up with his left hand, praising, “Brother Qiang is amazing, a role model for our generation.”

“You kid, follow Brother Qiang well...”

“Swish!”

Suddenly!

A cold light flashed, Brother Qiang’s hand clutched his neck, and he looked at Xu Jingzhe with disbelief, saying, “You, you...”

At the same time, Xu Jingzhe erupted, and before the other three could react, he stabbed another knife into the back of the closest person.

With a forceful upward pull, from the point of entry to the head, the person was split in two, blood and brain matter splattering everywhere.

The scene was exceptionally gory.

The remaining two snapped out of their shock, instantly stood up, and retreated about ten meters.

“You, weren’t you just in the Pollution Zone for half a year? You, you don’t even have a pollution core inside you, why are you so strong?” one of them asked in horror.

One second they were eating delicious roasted meat, the next two companions were dealt with.

This strength definitely belonged to a Contaminant who had lived in the Pollution Zone for three or four years.

Possibly even five years or more.

Xu Jingzhe wiped the blood from his face and grinned ferociously, “You... seem to have asked the wrong question.”

“Shouldn’t you be asking why I’m killing you?”

“Then, then you, why are you killing us?” he asked Xu Jingzhe, his body constantly moving towards the window.

“Because... I am a Dark Night Hunter.”

Xu Jingzhe, unhurried, held the dagger in his right hand and walked towards the two.

The end.
