Chapter 76: The Wind Is Also Gentle

Time flew by in a flash. Xu Jingzhe and Vladimir had already been fighting in the Pollution Zone for half a month.

They had acquired over sixty pollution cores, one of which was a ten-year core.

To get this pollution core, the two fought with a Contaminator for two full days and nights. Vladimir, in particular, was nearly fatally wounded.

In the end, it was Xu Jingzhe who used Spatial Pause to finally slay it!

The two hid in an abandoned building to recover from their injuries. There were many zombies nearby, making 'hungry,' 'hungry' sounds.

Because he had acquired the werewolf's recovery ability, Xu Jingzhe's injuries had significantly improved, and he was already able to move around.

"Esteemed Master, you do not need to worry about me. The Vampire family possesses very strong recovery abilities, no worse than those of a werewolf."

Vladimir coughed up blood and said stubbornly.

Xu Jingzhe patted his head and laughed, "It's normal for your recovery to be slow since you haven't fully matured yet."

"I'll go down and find something to eat. I'll catch you a live sheep."

Vladimir nodded pitifully. He wanted to drink... human blood, but he dared not say it.

Downstairs, the zombies smelled Xu Jingzhe's scent.

They scattered and stayed away, not daring to approach.

Thinking back to when he first arrived in the Pollution Zone a few months ago, Xu Jingzhe shook his head.

No matter where you are, the law of the jungle remains eternally true.

Passing a few oak trees, Xu Jingzhe couldn't help but think of Zhang Manyue, wondering where she was now.

Standing beneath the tree, he picked up an acorn from the ground.

He cracked it open, put the snow-white flesh into his mouth, and chewed slowly.

It was sweet.

The corners of his mouth curved up slightly.

Live creatures were common in the Pollution Zone. The mutated organisms were all large and had rich, tender meat.

Xu Jingzhe caught a goat and a wild boar and returned to their temporary shelter.

"Here!"

Xu Jingzhe tossed the goat to Vladimir, then skinned the boar and started a fire to roast the meat himself.

An hour later, the aroma of the roasted meat wafted far and wide.

Xu Jingzhe ate heartily.

After finishing the meat, Xu Jingzhe did not waste the bones.

He threw them downstairs, and a large group of zombies followed the scent, picking up the bones on the ground and gnawing on them with crunching sounds.

For the next ten days or so, Xu Jingzhe did not fight. He walked through the Pollution Zone with Vladimir at night.

Perhaps because they were near the periphery, they encountered Contaminators frequently.

There were quite a few—Otherworld Fiends, zombie dogs, zombie bears, and so on.

As long as they didn't actively attack him, Xu Jingzhe couldn't be bothered to eliminate them.

Firstly, because of the sheer numbers, and secondly, because these creatures did not have pollution cores inside them.

Only Otherworld Fiends that developed consciousness and became an Otherworld Fiend King could condense a pollution core. The same was true for zombies; only the zombie leaders would have a pollution core.

However, neither the Otherworld Fiend King nor the zombie leaders were creatures Xu Jingzhe could handle right now.

After months of traveling, Xu Jingzhe's face was covered in dust, and he had gotten quite tanned. He touched his matted hair and looked at his ragged clothes; he looked just like a little beggar.

Should he go see Ye Zi looking like this?

Wouldn't that be a little too careless?

That night, Vladimir carried Xu Jingzhe on his back, advancing quickly through the air.

In the distance, they could faintly see a tall silhouette under the twilight. They were about fifty li away from Musileke City.

Vladimir landed on the ground. There were no tall trees or mountains nearby for cover, and flying further would be unsafe.

"You should go back. I need to go to the Chemical Zone," Xu Jingzhe said.

"What!" Vladimir was greatly startled and said fearfully, "Esteemed Master, Contaminators cannot enter the Chemical Zone."

"Every city has Contaminator detection equipment. Once a Contaminator approaches, they will be immediately locked onto and an alarm will be triggered."

"Please think twice before acting!"

If Xu Jingzhe died in the Chemical Zone, he wouldn't survive for long either.

The two of them were tied together.

Besides, going to the Pollution Zone with his current strength was simply asking for death!

Xu Jingzhe nodded solemnly. Wang Ning and Bo Qing were still waiting for him to save their lives, so going to the Chemical Zone was mandatory.

Vladimir sighed deeply, knelt down, and kissed the back of Xu Jingzhe's hand.

"May the Vampire family protect you."

"Go now." Xu Jingzhe felt a little moved.

Vladimir nodded, spread his wings, and disappeared into the moonlight... On the second-floor rooftop.

Ye Zi sat alone on the edge of the rooftop, a bottle of beer beside her.

She swung her legs, occasionally taking a sip, gazing at the moon in the sky, and thinking about the happy times she spent with Xu Jingzhe.

Such sweet memories were not meant to be shared with outsiders.

Therefore, she would often look out from here toward the depths of the Pollution Zone, hoping Xu Jingzhe would return soon.

Because.

She missed him terribly!

"Little Ye Zi, are you in heat? It's three in the morning, why aren't you sleeping?" Dilisi strode over with her long legs, also holding a bottle of beer, and plopped down next to Ye Zi.

"Hmph, I just can't sleep, that's all," Ye Zi said, her face slightly flushed.

"Cheers!"

Dilisi raised the beer in her hand, and the two clinked bottles, producing a crisp sound.

"Do you think that handsome guy, who hasn't even condensed a pollution core, can still survive after being alone in the Pollution Zone for so long?"

Ye Zi didn't say a word. This was a very realistic problem.

Being handsome might get you a meal, but it certainly wouldn't stop you from being eaten. The Pollution Zone had all sorts of monsters, and there was no guarantee his tender skin and soft flesh wouldn't attract attention and get him caught and eaten raw.

Maybe even crunchy.

"Oh, come on, sis, I'm just kidding," Dilisi said, putting her arm around Ye Zi's shoulder and changing the topic. "What if, the next time you see him, your handsome guy has condensed a pollution core?"

"If he condensed a pollution core, he would be locked onto within ten li of Musileke City, let alone enter Musileke City."

Ye Zi's large eyes were filled with melancholy. Dilisi had ruined her good mood.

Suddenly, her expression froze, and she said, "I think I just saw someone flash by."

Dilisi put down her beer, her expression guarded, and said, "Our eyesight definitely can't spot someone ten li away. Could it be people from the Chemical Zone returning from a hunt?"

Ye Zi shook her head. "Impossible. People from the Chemical Zone wouldn't need to be secretive when appearing near Musileke City. It's thirty degrees to your right, yes, right behind that large rock."

"I definitely didn't see wrong!"

Dilisi sneered. Whatever was approaching, one shot would take care of it.

"Wait for me, I'm going back for my sniper rifle."

Five minutes later, Dilisi returned, carrying her 98K.

She set up the rifle, adjusted the scope, and tilted her head slightly.

The wind came.

Her long hair moved with the wind.

A figure appeared in the scope, flashing past in a brief instant, but Dilisi, being a sniper, captured his face.

"Hmph." Dilisi raised her head, brushed back her long hair, and said with a touch of sarcasm, "The wind tonight is so gentle."

Ye Zi looked at Dilisi, confused.

Dilisi shifted aside and said, "Here, you take the shot at this person."

"Me?" Ye Zi asked, puzzled.

"Yep, I guarantee you won't regret it."

Ye Zi lay down and peered into the scope. His messy hair didn't hide his face at all. A very handsome face appeared in the scope; his teeth were very white, and he even flashed a 'V' sign.

Ye Zi suddenly smiled, a very happy smile, and said, "The wind is also gentle."
