74: Make up for the deficiency
Chapter 74: Making Up for Deficiencies
The ancient oath seemed to walk out from antiquity; Vladimir chanted devoutly, and mysterious symbols sprang out one by one from his mouth.
The symbols combined irregularly in the church air, which grew thick and viscous.
The sound of the chanting grew louder, like a sacrificial hymn, grand and ancient.
Golden mysterious runes surrounded Xu Jingzhe, gradually beginning to spin, their speed accelerating until they finally resembled a swirling halo of golden light.
"The Vladimir Family is willing to follow the esteemed Master for generations, never abandoning him, and never violating this covenant. Any violator shall be nailed to a silver cross and suffer the anguish of heart-piercing and bone-scraping torment for eternity..."
All the golden runes merged into a single mark the size of a fingernail, landing on Xu Jingzhe's hand and disappearing.
Only by looking very closely could one vaguely detect a trace of golden light.
Once the covenant was complete, Vladimir slumped entirely, his face paler than white paper.
"Esteemed Master, the covenant has been concluded. You may return the wings to me, and Vladimir will carry you through the sky."
After confirming with the system that everything was fine, Xu Jingzhe handed the broken wing in his hand to Vladimir.
He took the broken wing, and blood boiled where his back was fractured. Several arm-thick red tendrils extended, burrowed into the broken wing, and the two merged into one.
He flapped his wings a few times, taking a moment to adjust.
"Master, it is daytime now, and it is inconvenient for me to go out, so..."
Xu Jingzhe nodded, looking at Jacob. Jacob understood immediately and transformed back into a giant wolf.
Xu Jingzhe leaped up and sat on his back, while Vladimir hung upside down beneath Jacob's belly, thus avoiding the sunlight.
The wind whistled past his ears. Jacob was very fast, and an hour later, they arrived at the dwelling place of the werewolves in this region.
"Awoo~" Jacob howled once, summoning the pack.
Before long, several people appeared in the dense forest, all of them robust with firm muscle lines.
"Jacob! You?"
The group was stunned; Jacob had actually become a human's mount.
He was the Wolf King of this region!
"This is the new Wolf King, Xu Jingzhe," Jacob said.
The men exchanged glances, then voluntarily knelt down, placing their right hands on their chests to signify submission.
Since Jacob had spoken, the pack could only comply.
However, they glared fiercely at Vladimir. Werewolves and Vampires are natural enemies; they could sense each other's presence the moment they got close.
Vladimir straightened his posture, maintaining an elegant demeanor throughout.
With his Master covering him, what was there to fear?
"Go fetch our pollution cores," Jacob commanded.
Soya entered the cave and brought out an entire bag of pollution cores. Xu Jingzhe counted them: fifty-three in total.
Among them, eight were ten-year pollution cores, and two were fifteen-year pollution cores.
The rest were pollution cores around five years old.
Xu Jingzhe collected them all; what he currently lacked most was pollution cores.
"Take this and keep it safe."
"I will come back for it when I return."
Xu Jingzhe handed the wolf king's bone, wrapped in a sheepskin scroll, to Jacob. He understood clearly.
Given his current strength, taking the wolf king's bone to the Chemical Zone would be like a child brazenly parading around with a pile of gold, just waiting to be killed for it.
Jacob tremblingly received the wolf king's bone; the pressure originating from the depths of his soul almost made him collapse to his knees.
"Soya, go find some food, the more the better," Xu Jingzhe instructed.
"Roar..."
Soya took the two people away, transforming into a giant wolf and disappearing into the dense forest... It was night, and the moonlight was like water.
Xu Jingzhe ate three whole cows before finally letting out a satisfied burp.
Casually breaking off a blade of grass to pick his teeth, he leaned against a large rock, enjoying a rare moment of relaxation. He asked, "Jacob, roughly how many werewolves are there in the Pollution Zone?"
Jacob put down the marrow he was sucking on and replied, "There are thousands, but they are distributed across different regions, and each region is led by a Wolf King."
"We are probably the smallest group, a tribe composed of only seven or eight werewolves."
That made sense. If the Wolf King of this region led a tribe composed of hundreds of werewolves, even Xu Jingzhe after his wolf transformation might not be his opponent. Among werewolves, strength is paramount.
The stronger the individual, the more werewolves follow him.
"How many people are in the nearest werewolf tribe?" Xu Jingzhe asked.
"About thirty."
Xu Jingzhe shook his head. Forget it, he couldn't afford to provoke them.
If there were only seven or eight people, he wouldn't mind subduing them and seizing their pollution cores.
"Protect the wolf king's bone well. If I haven't returned to find you in three months, take the wolf king's bone to the Abandoned Land and look for a team named 'Awesome and Booming.' Their leader is called Dodge."
After giving his instructions, Xu Jingzhe stood up and said, "Let's go, to Musileke City."
Vladimir spread his two-meter-long wings, waiting for Xu Jingzhe to climb aboard.
"Awoo~"
"Awoo~"
The pack bade farewell to Xu Jingzhe.
In the air, Vladimir was not flying fast; he was searching for prey.
At night, the entire sky was the battlefield of the Vampires.
"Swoosh!"
Vladimir accelerated. Below, two Contaminators were engaged in a shameful act.
Sharp claws pierced their abdomens, giving them a thorough chill, and two three-year pollution cores were obtained.
"Vladimir, you don't need to make a move. Leave the rest to me."
"I need tempering."
Although Xu Jingzhe's Golden Contamination Core was different from ordinary pollution cores, his strength still had to be judged by the rings inside it.
Inside his grain-sized pollution core, there were already five small golden rings.
Before swallowing the small lycanthropy virus, there were only two rings.
Although the pollution core only had five rings, because his body had been modified by bacteria, his bone hardness and skin toughness far surpassed those of Contaminators of the same rank. His bones, especially, were harder than ordinary alloys, so his overall quality could rival that of a seven- or eight-year Contaminator.
However, for Xu Jingzhe, the rapid increase in overall quality presented a major drawback.
His mind couldn't keep up with his body.
In the Pollution Zone, a Contaminator of the same eight-year rank had experienced countless life-and-death crises.
The process of combat and the experience of victory were things that bacterial body modification could not provide.
This was like two people simultaneously piloting a Level 1 mecha: Xu Jingzhe knew nothing, but his opponent was an excellent mecha pilot, so the outcome of the match was self-evident.
Therefore, he needed to fight Contaminators to make up for his own deficiencies.
"Esteemed Master, there is a Contaminator below."
"Let me down, I want to fight!" Xu Jingzhe stood on Vladimir's back, a flash of golden light crossing his dark pupils.
After the wolf transformation, his vision was twice what it used to be, and at night, it could reach about three times that.
He had already locked onto the Contaminator on the ground!
