3: The school beauty with braided hair?

Wu Fan picked up the plastic bag on the ground and quickly followed her. Just as he was about to say something more, Fang Hanyu had already entered the room and slammed the door shut with a loud bang.

Wu Fan was speechless for a moment.

What kind of person is she? Taking a joke seriously, how boring.

Her husband is always away on business trips, disappearing for months. What is there to be angry about?

At the age of thirty, when one is "like a wolf," it's not wrong to think about men.

Wu Fan, this macho straight man, could not understand women's subtlety and shyness regarding this topic.

He entered the room and first placed the doll on Yaoyao's bedside table.

A few days ago, Wu Fan had already started making Yaoyao sleep alone.

He felt it was necessary to cultivate her independence. After all, sleeping in the same bed was not a long-term solution.

Actually, Wu Fan didn't sleep well when he was alone, but whenever Yaoyao was sleeping next to him, he felt especially secure and slept soundly.

After tidying up the toys and snacks, Wu Fan opened the balcony door and lit a cigarette.

He occasionally glanced toward Fang Hanyu's balcony, but he didn't see her come out.

After taking a few puffs of his cigarette, his phone rang.

He looked at it; it was Zhang Yingying, the tour guide from his company.

"Beautiful Zhang, what's up?"

"Brother Fan, we need to head out soon. The guests arrive at the pier at noon."

The county where Wu Fan lived was an island county, and everyone needed to take a boat to enter or leave.

If cars wanted to enter the island, they could only drive onto a large ferry, but the price was a bit steep.

Therefore, when outside travel agencies sent groups over, the vehicles would not come onto the island, as the cost was too high.

Wu Fan was surprised, "We have guests in this snowy weather? And no advance notice?"

Zhang Yingying said apologetically, "This group of guests spontaneously came over to eat seafood. Sister Chen Lu just took the booking this morning."

Chen Lu was the travel agency's operations coordinator. She was 28, unmarried, and exceptionally beautiful, with a pair of large, sparkling dark eyes. However, she was quite a homebody. Perhaps because she dealt with business over the phone every day, she didn't like interacting with people in reality?

Wu Fan exhaled a puff of smoke, "Where should I pick you up later?"

Zhang Yingying said, "The Wanghai Plaza bus stop."

Wu Fan acknowledged her and hung up the phone.

There was a distance between the county town and the pier and taking Zhang Yingying would save her some bus fare.

Wu Fan stubbed out his cigarette. Just as he was about to go back inside, he noticed that Fang Hanyu had come out onto the balcony at some point.

She had changed into a floral house dress and was tending to the potted plants on the balcony.

Wu Fan leaned on the balcony railing and said, "Sister Fang, my future depends on you."

Fang Hanyu didn't look up, loosening the soil around her succulents as she spoke, "What does your future have to do with me?"

Wu Fan said with a grin, "You're getting the wrong idea again, aren't you? Didn't you say you were going to introduce someone to me?"

Fang Hanyu stood up. "Who got the wrong idea? Don't flatter yourself."

"Also, forget I ever mentioned introducing someone to you, understand?"

Wu Fan shamelessly said, "Sister Fang, you're not still angry, are you? Thinking about a man when you sleep alone at night just proves you're a normal woman. What's wrong with that? Is it a mistake?"

Fang Hanyu yelled, "Wu Fan, don't ever talk to me again."

She glared at Wu Fan and stomped back inside in a huff.

Wu Fan couldn't help but chuckle to himself. He really liked seeing her angry; teasing and provoking her was quite fun.

He went back inside, cleaned up a bit, changed his clothes, and prepared to head to the travel agency.

The guests would likely need the car in the evening, meaning he wouldn't be able to pick Yaoyao up from school. He would have to trouble Chen Lu to pick her up.

Most importantly, he had promised Yaoyao they would build a snowman, and this difficult task would also have to be passed on to Chen Lu, which was indeed putting her in a tough spot.

After all, she was someone who disliked being in the public eye.

But for Yaoyao's sake, he could only go and beg her.

During the summer tourist season, Wu Fan was extremely busy.

Chen Lu usually helped pick up Yaoyao and kept her at the travel agency until Wu Fan finished work and brought her home.

She and Yaoyao got along very well, and Yaoyao was very fond of her, which filled Wu Fan with gratitude toward Chen Lu.

Sometimes, a fleeting thought would cross his mind: if only Chen Lu could be Yaoyao's mother.

But that was too wishful thinking; there was no way he was good enough for her.

Wu Fan sometimes even wondered if Chen Lu had never been in a relationship.

Her social circle in real life was simply too small.

As Wu Fan walked downstairs, he ran into an extremely beautiful girl with cute pigtails, looking very pure and innocent.

This immediately brought a word to mind: Campus Belle.

Wu Fan's heart actually skipped a beat.

It wasn't until he reached downstairs that he realized the girl looked too much like his Ex-Wife.

Especially when she lowered her gaze, that hint of shyness was exactly the same.

Wu Fan's heart felt a sharp pang.

He quickly pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag.

When he felt restless, cigarettes became his most loyal friend.

It was as if nothing in the world couldn't be solved by a single cigarette.

Just like a few years ago, when he and his Ex-Wife walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau after divorcing, he first lit a cigarette and quietly watched his Ex-Wife sway her hips, get into a BMW, and drive away.

This woman, whom he had once loved madly, had still run into the arms of another man.

He had still lost her.

But whose fault was it in the end, and how could it ever be made clear?

Maybe it was his fault for being too incompetent and living such a tight life. In those years, he couldn't give his Ex-Wife Liu Yue the life she wanted.

Wu Fan just never figured out when exactly Liu Yue got together with her first love, Han Li.

He suffered for a long time trying to pinpoint that moment.

Because Wu Fan clearly remembered that on the day he and Liu Yue got married, Han Li had attended the wedding banquet and even brought a generous gift.

Han Li's family was well-off, and he heard they owned a family business, which made Wu Fan feel suffocated. It seemed the gap between them was enormous.

So when Liu Yue disappeared and then suddenly reappeared in front of him with Han Li, Wu Fan did not raise his fist to beat them up.

In that moment, Wu Fan only felt an indescribable pain, coupled with utter helplessness.

He subconsciously looked back at the stairwell, but the girl had already disappeared.

He started his electric scooter and drove toward the largest Jiayi Shopping Mall.

He wanted to buy Chen Lu a decent gift.

Over the years, Chen Lu had helped him a lot, especially taking care of Yaoyao, where she had put in a great deal of effort.

Previously, his life had been too tight, and he never had any spare money.

By the end of the month, he often had to borrow money from his friend Fei Wei.

Fei Wei was his close buddy and ran a bar called "One Foot of Sea," which did decent business.

When Wu Fan was in a bad mood, he would go there to drink and chat, sometimes even going on stage to belt out a hysterical song—it served as a haven for his heart.

Now that he had the Cashback System, he could spend a good amount on Chen Lu and buy her some proper gifts!
