84: Xiao Hui's Home
The fashion show competition eventually turned into playful splashing and water fights in the bathroom.
More than an hour later, the two of them finally emerged from the bathroom.
To reward Qian Ning for getting first place, Wu Fan asked her what she wanted.
With reddened ears, she whispered something into Wu Fan's ear.
Wu Fan burst out laughing.
Qian Ning: "..."
...!!
...!!!
The two didn't leave until after 5 PM. After dinner, they went to see a romance movie together, which made Wu Fan incredibly sleepy.
The lousy movie was boring to death; Wu Fan felt no emotional stirrings at all and soon leaned back in his seat and fell asleep.
Qian Ning, however, was full of energy and watched with great interest. Women always have a longing and expectation for love.
Walking out of the cinema, Qian Ning complained, "Wu Fan, I'm never going to watch a movie with you again. It's a complete waste of money."
Wu Fan chuckled and asked, "Did you fall asleep too?"
"I certainly did not!"
"Then it's fine. I'm just accompanying you. Whether I watch or not isn't important."
Qian Ning glanced at Wu Fan, "That seems to make sense."
Unbeknownst to them, the two had walked to the entrance of the Exhibition Center.
Wu Fan looked up and around, but Xiao Hui, the flower seller, was nowhere to be seen.
He felt an inexplicable tension in his heart. "Did something happen to her father? Why isn't she here?"
Qian Ning reminded him, "Brother Fan, don't be nervous, the time hasn't come yet."
Wu Fan then breathed a sigh of relief. He looked up and saw a uniquely designed, minimalist coffee shop and asked, "Do you want me to buy you a hot coffee?"
Qian Ning said, "Let's go inside and sit for a while, and wait for Xiao Hui."
"Good idea."
...Xiao Hui was still wearing the same old clothes from yesterday, with a bamboo basket on her chest, full of flowers.
It seemed her business today wasn't very good either.
Wu Fan walked over, "Xiao Hui, where do you get your flowers from?"
Xiao Hui glanced at Wu Fan and said, "From the flower shop on the street behind."
She looked up, her gaze resting on Qian Ning.
Qian Ning's combination of a hat, mask, and sunglasses today did look a bit strange.
Wu Fan explained, "Her face is covered in acne, so she's embarrassed to be seen. You don't need to be scared."
Upon hearing this, Qian Ning lightly hit Wu Fan, "Get lost."
Xiao Hui smiled a little shyly.
Wu Fan said, "Go return the flowers, and take us to your house."
Xiao Hui hesitated a little.
Wu Fan smiled and said, "It's alright, consider all these flowers sold to me. How many are there in total?"
"Fifty stalks."
Wu Fan pulled out five hundred, put it in her pocket, and then pulled her into the BYD.
Qian Ning took off her mask in the car, "I'm suffocating."
Wu Fan teased, "When you become a big star, a mask won't be enough. You might have to wear a helmet!"
Qian Ning gave him a beautiful glare.
Wu Fan drove, first returning the flowers to the flower shop.
The proprietress was very confused, not understanding what he meant.
Wu Fan said, "Don't overthink it, I'm giving them to you for free. Just give Xiao Hui a discount when she comes to get flowers in the future."
The proprietress smiled and said, "Xiao Hui is a good child, it's not easy for her. Even if you didn't say anything, I always give her the cheapest price."
Wu Fan nodded, looking at her gratefully.
Wu Fan hadn't expected Xiao Hui's home to be so far away.
It took nearly two hours of driving to reach the village.
He asked Xiao Hui and learned that every time she went to the city to sell flowers, she had to walk about forty minutes on the village road to reach the bus stop to take a bus, which was very difficult.
Xiao Hui's family's poverty still exceeded Wu Fan's expectations.
A low-slung tiled house, with several windows patched with old newspapers to block the wind. The old, blackened wooden door didn't close tightly; it would creak when the wind blew.
Inside, on an old wooden bed, lay her father, his face pale, even his breathing seemed somewhat difficult.
An old earthen stove, an eight-immortal table, two long wooden benches, and nothing else of any decent quality.
Wu Fan was stunned for a moment, and he and Qian Ning exchanged glances for a few seconds, both feeling very shocked.
He hadn't imagined that in this day and age, there would still be such impoverished families.
Although Wu Fan's hometown was backward and had struggling families, it wasn't like Xiao Hui's house, which didn't even have a gas stove. It was truly unbelievable.
Xiao Hui's father saw Wu Fan and the others and tried to struggle to get up, but Wu Fan quickly stopped him.
Upon inquiry, he learned that Xiao Hui's father had been ill for almost half a year. He couldn't do any work; any movement caused shortness of breath and an irregular heartbeat. He was effectively an invalid.
He didn't dare go to the hospital because he had no money, so he just kept delaying it.
It was only Xiao Hui who suffered.
Wu Fan pulled out a cigarette, walked outside, and lit it.
He opened his system warehouse and used the "Advanced Medical Skill Book."
Instantly, various medical techniques and highly complex pharmacological knowledge appeared in his mind.
Whether it was "Bian, acupuncture, moxibustion, medicine, guidance, and massage," or the anatomical structures in Western medicine, he now understood them perfectly.
He flicked away the cigarette butt and returned to the house. Wu Fan took Xiao Hui's father's pulse, observed his eyes and tongue coating, and already had the answer in his heart.
"Xiao Hui's father, your illness cannot be delayed. It's a heart problem, and it can be resolved with just a small surgery."
Xiao Hui's father's eyes lit up, then dimmed again as he sighed softly.
Qian Ning interjected, "You don't need to worry about money; we will help solve it."
Wu Fan didn't say much more, directly helped him into the car, and the group headed straight to the hospital.
Wu Fan spoke eloquently to the attending physician, explaining in detail how Xiao Hui's father's condition should be treated and how the surgery should be performed.
This thoroughly shocked the attending physician. "You are...?"
Wu Fan boasted, "An American medical doctor, on vacation back home, doing a good deed along the way."
The attending physician was still very impressed and agreed with Wu Fan's explanation.
The surgery was scheduled for the morning after tomorrow, and some routine examinations would be conducted over these two days.
After settling Xiao Hui's father in the inpatient department, Wu Fan bought Xiao Hui a mobile phone so they could easily contact her if needed.
He also asked Qian Ning to call Teacher Chen, asking her to come to the hospital to help look after him.
When Chen Liyun arrived, she brought a large fruit basket.
She looked at Wu Fan and said, "I'm very busy every day. I'm afraid I won't be much help, will I?"
Wu Fan looked at her beautiful face, somewhat lost in thought.
The idiom 'handsome and spirited,' which should be used for men, now seemed very fitting for Chen Liyun.
"Just help keep an eye on the medical expenses. If it's not enough, just let me know."
When Wu Fan handled the admission, he had already deposited two hundred thousand into Xiao Hui's father's card, which should generally be enough.
Chen Liyun gave a dry laugh, "Okay, no problem."
Her dry laugh sounded very pleasant, perhaps a skill from her Yue Opera performances.
Wu Fan was once again somewhat dazed, captivated by Chen Liyun's irresistible charm.
Qian Ning lightly nudged him and said, "Brother Fan, why don't you take Xiao Hui out for a nice meal?"
Wu Fan didn't avert his gaze. "Teacher Chen, where is a suitable place for a child to eat? You'll have to take her."
Chen Liyun's eyes flickered, and her cheeks flushed slightly. She felt a bit shy and flustered from Wu Fan's gaze.
"KFC is fine; children all like to eat those kinds of things."
