122: The fan in the counter!
Early the next morning, Chen Kai rubbed his blurry eyes, turned off the alarm, changed his clothes, and got up.
He greeted his parents and headed downstairs to drive and pick up the two young ladies, Liu Yunshang and Tang Yunshu. This trip back to his hometown could be considered a complete success.
On the road, at a service area, Chen Kai thought for a moment and decided to call his mother.
The call was answered quickly. "Hello? Son, did you forget to take something?"
"No. I left a Bank card in your nightstand with 200,000 in it. The PIN is my birthday. Your two daughters-in-law insisted I leave the money, so I had no choice but to do as they said."
"Huh?!"
His mother was startled at first. Footsteps quickly came from the other end of the line, followed immediately by the sound of a drawer being opened.
"Two hundred thousand?! Son, why… why did you give so much? Your father and I can't spend all that! No, no, I have to transfer it back to you. It's not easy for you to earn money."
Chen Kai immediately shook his head, wanting to refute, but Liu Yunshang in the passenger seat grabbed the phone from him.
"Auntie~~ just keep it. It's a token of appreciation from Yunshu and me. Don't you like us, Auntie?"
"If you like us, you should accept our gesture all the more~~"
After chatting for a couple of sentences, she returned the phone to Chen Kai. As soon as Chen Kai put the phone to his ear, he was dumbfounded. How did she manage to coax her like that?
If he had tried to coax her himself, his mother wouldn't have accepted the money for ages, but now, his mother on the phone was actually laughing and had accepted it.
Chen Kai immediately turned his head and looked at Liu Yunshang with an incredulous gaze.
Liu Yunshang smiled faintly, gave him a wink, and mouthed without making a sound, "Am I impressive?"
Chen Kai immediately gave her a thumbs up. After chatting with his mother a bit more, he hung up the phone and continued driving toward Jiangnan City.
Three or four hours later, the three of them arrived in Jiangnan City. Chen Kai dropped the two young ladies off at the company before heading straight to the second-hand market.
He parked the car at the second-hand market. The mercedes-benz gle looked very dazzling on the dilapidated street.
Quite a few old men and Old Woman were staring at his car, their eyes filled with astonishment.
Seeing this, Chen Kai frowned. If he had known, he should have parked the car further away.
After driving this Mercedes-Benz for a while, he realized it really wasn't as convenient as his little electric donkey in some respects; it was easier to navigate the streets and alleys and go buy things with that.
"Young Man, want to come take a look at my things? I sell everything. Second-hand Electric Scooter, computer case, light bulbs, electric fans, air conditioner, I have it all, and they're much newer than anyone else's."
An Old Woman looked at him curiously, trying hard to attract a customer.
"No thanks, ma'am, I'm just looking around."
Chen Kai shook his head and looked around curiously. This second-hand market wasn't very big; there were only about twenty or thirty shops, and everyone else was setting up stalls on the side of the street.
The stalls had everything, even half a bucket of unfinished soybean oil was displayed with a clear price tag, honest and fair.
"Young Man! Want a bucket of soybean oil? Be thrifty and live well. Even if you drive a Mercedes-Benz, you still need to eat soybean oil, right? The supermarket sells them for fifty yuan a bucket. I've eaten half, so I'm selling it for twenty. You'd save five yuan directly!"
The Old Woman running the street stall waved her hands anxiously, trying hard to sell her soybean oil.
Chen Kai smiled awkwardly, pretended to ignore her, and walked straight toward the other side.
The information provided by the system today wasn't very detailed. He didn't know which specific stall it was at, so he could only look for it slowly himself.
But the problem was, in a second-hand market, electric fans were the one thing that weren't in short supply, so finding it wouldn't be an easy task.
He walked around the market road once but didn't see any glowing reminders, which at least ruled out the possibility of the electric fan being on a street stall.
Thinking this, Chen Kai slowly walked into a second-hand shop and scanned the room, but he didn't see any glowing fans.
"Young Man, what do you need? If we don't have it, I can get it for you from the market. We have plenty of things in this second-hand market."
"No need, I'm just looking around."
Chen Kai smiled faintly, waved his hand in refusal, and strode outside.
Following that, the second shop, the third shop, the fourth shop—none of the displayed fans were glowing.
Chen Kai was a bit confused. What was going on? Why were there so many people selling old fans in the market?
Just then, the corner of Chen Kai's eye inadvertently caught a second-hand shop at the end of the alley that specialized in refrigeration.
He walked over quickly and looked inside through the shop entrance. The shop, which was several dozen square meters, was filled with all kinds of air conditioner units and fans.
And there was no end in sight! The shop was full of fans!
The shop owner at the entrance was sitting on a chair playing Honor of Kings. Looking up and seeing Chen Kai standing at the entrance hesitating, he grinned.
"Brother, my shop has the most complete range of fan styles. Other people sell old fans they used themselves, but these are all 99% new ones I've collected."
"If you can't find what you want to buy in my shop, then you don't need to look anywhere else in this market. Those old men and Old Woman just sell their old fans to go buy new ones."
Chen Kai nodded and smiled. "Are all your fans here? I have a few requirements. Money isn't an issue; I mainly want to find one that catches my eye."
"There are more in the warehouse, right in the back. If you say it like that, I'll take you over to take a look right now."
The owner immediately stood up, holding his phone with both hands, head down, playing Honor of Kings, and walked all the way to the door at the very back of the shop with his head down.
Chen Kai's gaze kept scanning the rows of shelves.
"Desktop… none. This is portable… also none. Hiss… no old-fashioned ones either. Could it be in the warehouse?"
Chen Kai muttered to himself, following the owner all the way to the big door in front of the warehouse. He pushed the door open and looked inside; hundreds of fans covered in plastic film were arranged in the warehouse.
"Brother, feel free to pick. The prices aren't high."
Chen Kai nodded and took a rough look, only to discover that there wasn't one emitting a faint yellow light!
He couldn't believe it and walked around the nearly one-hundred-square-meter warehouse again. Still nothing!
"Are all your fans here?"
Chen Kai asked, feeling a bit disappointed. Just as the owner said, the old men and Old Woman setting up stalls outside were selling fans they had used themselves and no longer wanted.
According to the intelligence, the old man had lung cancer, and his family made him quit smoking, which was why he hid the snuff bottle inside the fan.
It appearing in the second-hand market meant it might have been sold by family members who didn't know about it, so it definitely couldn't have been sold to those old men and Old Woman.
"They're all here. You're so picky; out of so many fans, you haven't taken a liking to even one?"
The owner looked up at Chen Kai while playing the game.
"No, sorry to bother you, boss."
Chen Kai shook his head helplessly and walked back. Just as he reached the Counter, he discovered that there was a personal standing fan inside the Counter where the owner had been sitting!
And at the base of the standing fan, a faint light was shining!!
