297: Game of Crowns
The Mechanical Graveyard, that floating continent composed of the wreckage of war machines from the previous era, had now become a battlefield.
Arbiter’s Purifier Legion, familiar with the mechanical terrain, arrived first and quickly set up a defensive line formed by the Law of Order.
Following closely behind was Star Lord’s biological fleet.
“Charge! Tear those tin cans to shreds!”
Star Lord roared.
His flagship, with a ramming prow made of biological tissue, glowed with a dark red light, a mixture of Divine Power and biological energy, as it fiercely crashed into the Purifier Legion’s defense line.
Boom!
The barrier of order and the violent force collided with a thunderous roar, stirring up a sky full of data streams and flesh fragments.
Meanwhile, Myriad Devouring Mother Empress’s swarm of insects swept in from all directions of the battlefield, burrowing into the massive mechanical wreckage, attempting to dismantle Arbiter’s positions from within.
The three factions, circling the golden pillar of light that shot into the sky, once again plunged into a fierce battle.
The entire battlefield became bloody and terrifying.
Terrifying energy collisions tore apart one section of the Void Realm after another.
Many lives perished here, countless bodies floated, and countless others were directly reduced to dust.
Just ten minutes later.
The golden pillar of light, symbolizing the crown, flashed once more and disappeared.
Immediately after, it appeared on another floating continent made of living plants.
The battlefield shifted again.
The three factions, who hadn’t yet determined a victor, were forced to disengage from combat once more and rush to the next location without delay.
Over the next few days, the same scene played out repeatedly in every corner of this world.
The crown of the era, each time it appeared, would only stay for a very short period before immediately teleporting to another random location.
It led all the players in an endless game of chase across this giant chessboard.
Everyone was being played for fools, exhausting their dwindling resources and patience in one brief skirmish and high-speed chase after another.
And in this frantic chase, Arbiter’s rebel fleet always seemed to have bad luck.
They tracked the crown’s whereabouts multiple times, but each time, they perfectly missed the crown’s teleportation.
Either they had just arrived when the crown immediately vanished.
Or they were left in a sorry state by the Law anomalies in the area caused by the crown’s teleportation.
On the bridge of the flagship, Spear of Judgment, the atmosphere was oppressive.
“Commander, we were a step too late again!”
The adjutant said anxiously.
“The crown just left, and this time, it caused a gravity anomaly in this area. Three of our frigates were directly crushed into pancakes by the sudden increase in gravity!”
Arbiter looked at the golden dot on the Star Domain map that had changed position again, silent.
His logical core, composed of data, was operating at an unimaginable speed.
He was analyzing the coordinates and time intervals of each crown teleportation, as well as the types of Law anomalies it caused.
He was trying to find some pattern.
The result, however, was completely random, with no discernible pattern whatsoever.
It was as if an invisible hand was deliberately toying with them.
“Commander, do we still continue the chase?”
The adjutant couldn’t help but ask, “We have already lost nearly a tenth of our forces, and our energy reserves are also starting to run low.”
“If this continues, we might…”
“Keep chasing!”
Arbiter directly interrupted him.
“The Observer’s game will not be meaningless randomness; each chase is a screening process.”
“It is testing our resolve, our endurance, and our luck.”
“Only the players who can ultimately keep up with its pace will be qualified to enter the true final round.”
“Transmit my order.”
“Fleet, full engine power.”
“Next time, we must catch it before it disappears!”
With his command, the exhausted fleet once again transformed into a stream of light, rushing towards the crown’s latest coordinates.
This time, the crown descended upon a death Star Domain known as the Spacetime turbulence.
Here, it was the most unstable region of space Law in the entire Kindling world.
Countless spatial rifts of varying sizes appeared and disappeared without any pattern.
Even the most advanced warships, if they ventured here, could be cut in half at any moment by a suddenly appearing spatial rift.
However, the crown of the era floated calmly in the center of this death Star Domain.
“This is it!”
Arbiter’s fleet was the first to arrive at the periphery of this Star Domain.
He looked at the crown, now within reach, and his logical core, made of data, experienced a violent fluctuation, the first time it showed something called greed.
“All warships, activate spatial stabilization anchors!”
“With me as the spearhead, charge in!”
He decided to take the risk, to be the first player to touch the crown.
The massive rebel fleet activated all its defensive Systems and plunged into the Spacetime turbulence without hesitation.
Countless tiny spatial rifts created deadly ripples on the fleet’s shields.
Several frigates, unable to avoid a suddenly expanding spatial rift in time, were silently swallowed, leaving not a single trace of wreckage.
But Arbiter’s flagship, Spear of Judgment, with its powerful performance, firmly withstood all impacts, carving out a path forward in this sea of death.
He was getting closer and closer to the crown.
Five thousand kilometers, three thousand kilometers, one thousand kilometers.
He could even clearly see the different Law glows emanating from each gem on the crown.
Victory seemed to be within his grasp.
Just as his flagship was about to reach the crown.
The crown of the era, suspended in the air, flashed once more.
It had teleported again.
And with its departure, this already unstable Spacetime turbulence, having lost the suppression of the crown’s will, instantly went completely out of control.
Rumble!
The entire Star Domain, all of space, began an irreversible collapse towards the center at that very moment.
Everything was being squeezed frantically towards an infinitesimally small singularity by an irresistible mighty force.
“No!”
On the bridge of the flagship, Spear of Judgment, Arbiter let out his first, and last, roar of unwillingness and despair.
He watched helplessly as his fleet, his comrades, and the mothership that carried all his ambition and hope, were crushed and twisted inch by inch before this catastrophe, finally turning into an insignificant speck of dust within the singularity.
The first faction to be eliminated was born.
They did not fall by the hands of an enemy, but rather succumbed to that elusive luck.
The Observer’s game was just that cruel and unreasonable.
It would eliminate every player who was not strong enough, or not lucky enough, in the most direct and brutal way.
Who would be eliminated next?
