37: Obtain Class B authorization and raid Area F

“Su Lei, you truly are a monster.”

Colonel Rowan’s voice echoed in the office, filled with unconcealed amazement.

“Of course, I mean no offense; you can take it as a compliment.”

He looked up, carefully observing Su Lei.

Although the other party was merely standing in the most standard military posture, he subtly exuded a chilling sense of oppression.

It was as if a dormant Vicious Beast, capable of erupting with astonishing power at any moment.

Rowan’s Adam’s apple subtly bobbed, and he subconsciously adjusted his sitting posture.

He continued to flip through the medical report in his hand.

When his gaze fell on the “Cell Activity Index” on the third page, his pupils suddenly contracted.

The data was three times that of a normal Martial Master and was still continuously rising.

“Peak Second-Order, approaching the strength of a Third-Order Martial Master.”

Rowan’s voice was low, tinged with disbelief.

He had seen too many so-called Geniuses, but how long had this young man been a Martial Master?

In the Southern Theater Command’s dozen military bases, Third-Order Martial Masters were few and far between.

Each was a strategic combat force capable of influencing the outcome of a battle.

“No wonder you came to me for a mission even with Li Qingchen and Wu Ming absent.”

Su Lei’s expression remained calm, “Since you believe I have the ability to deal with Vicious Beasts, shouldn’t you confidently assign me a mission?”

Colonel Rowan was silent for a moment, then took a map from his drawer and spread it on the desk.

His gaze slowly swept across the map.

“No particularly troublesome targets have been found yet.”

“However, with your strength, going after some low-level mutated beasts would truly be overkill…”

He looked up, his gaze complex as he glanced at Su Lei.

“Wait for news.”

“Alternatively, you can use this time to patrol unexplored areas like F, G, and H.”

“Although reconnaissance missions don’t pay much and are dangerous, if you can bring back the corpse of a Vicious Beast, you can still earn a good sum.”

“Oh, and one more thing…”

Rowan seemed to suddenly remember something, taking a black identification card from deep within his drawer and pushing it towards Su Lei.

“I’ve already reported your situation to my superiors and specially applied for B-level clearance for you.”

Su Lei’s eyebrows subtly raised, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.

In the military, B-level clearance was already the equivalent of a field officer’s treatment, almost on par with Colonel Rowan before him.

And above that, A-level was for the person in charge of a region, like Lin Qianqian’s father—General Lin.

As for S-level?

That was the level of a Theater Commander.

“With this ID, you have the right to browse the military’s database, and some military supplies are also open to you.”

“Not only can you move freely within the Misty Mountains, but if you need help during a mission, you can also get reinforcements from nearby stationed troops.”

Rowan’s fingers lightly tapped on the desk, his voice a few shades lower.

“Su Lei, you may have had some fortuitous encounter, but I don’t care.”

“I only know that you are an excellent warrior.”

“A good warrior who values comrades, slays Vicious Beasts, and fights for the interests of humanity.”

“That’s enough.”

He picked up the medical report from the table and fed it into the shredder nearby.

“All the data from your medical examination has been deleted.”

“It will not be entered into the military’s database.”

…

Su Lei walked out of the command center building.

The sunlight was bright and dazzling.

From a distance, the shouts of soldiers drilling could be heard, neat and powerful.

He looked left and right, then strode towards the parking lot.

Zhao Tian was leaning against a jeep, smoking.

Through the swirling smoke, he saw Su Lei approaching and flicked away his cigarette butt.

“Let’s go.” Su Lei pulled open the car door and sat in the passenger seat.

“Where to?” Zhao Tian turned the car key, and the engine let out a low growl.

“Area F.”

Zhao Tian nodded, “Then let’s take this road; we’ll get there an hour after passing through Area B.”

The jeep drove out of the military camp, passing through three security checkpoints along the way, where armed guards carefully checked their IDs before waving them through.

As the last roadblock rose, the scenery before them suddenly widened.

Boom boom boom!

Deafening mechanical roars came from afar.

The entire mountain forest of Area B had been leveled, replaced by a bustling industrial base.

Dozens of giant excavators gnawed at the mountainside like steel beasts, each swing of their mechanical arms bringing a dull thud, and the ground subtly trembled with it.

The air was filled with the pungent smell of diesel and Ore dust.

Hundreds of workers wearing hard hats were also working near the mine pit.

“What a change.” Zhao Tian rolled down the window, squinting out.

“Three months ago, this was still a forest; I even killed mutated beasts here back then.”

“Since the mutated beasts here were driven out, the military discovered large Ore veins, and Chen’s Mining and Construction Group immediately moved in.”

Zhao Tian pointed to the towering drilling rigs in the distance.

“I heard they’re even opening a factory here tomorrow; in a few more years, there might even be a damn nightclub here.”

…

The jeep slowly drove into the heart of Area B, the scenery outside the window rapidly flashing by.

Fully armed Martial Artist soldiers patrolled the roadside, construction workers hurried past carrying rebar, and street vendors set up stalls, hawking hot food and cigarettes.

Crude dormitories, neon-lit bars, bustling restaurants…

The prototype of an industrial town was already taking shape.

“Before we knew it, over a thousand people had gathered here.”

Zhao Tian lit a new cigarette, taking a deep drag.

“Once these pioneers settle down, hospitals and schools will also be built successively. More and more people will come, and it will slowly become a new city.”

“Once the titanium alloy production base is built, this place might become a military industrial hub in the southern part of the Federation, providing countless people with jobs and producing a large amount of equipment and machinery for the Federation…”

Su Lei silently gazed out the window, a ripple stirring in his heart.

Driving out mutated beasts, expanding territory, and fighting for human survival space.

This was the meaning of their existence as Martial Artists.

…

The jeep finally stopped in front of a military camp.

The two got out of the car and, led by a guard, entered the command post, where they met the person in charge of Area B.

The other party was a middle-aged man around forty.

His face was stern, and the colonel’s insignia on his epaulets gleamed with metallic luster under the light.

He sat behind a large desk, his sharp gaze assessing Su Lei and Zhao Tian on the sofa.

Finally, his gaze lingered on Su Lei, and he slowly spoke.

“I know your Sharp Sword Squad, and I know you, Su Lei.”

“It’s said you single-handedly took down two Vicious Beasts… no, two mutated Gibbons.”

He leaned slightly forward, adding another sentence.

“For this, you even alarmed several nearby military camps to send support, causing quite a stir.”

“Tell me your purpose.”

Su Lei looked directly into the other’s eyes, his tone calm: “I need to borrow some men and a few helicopters.”
