111: The cruel truth!

When Su Yue used an electric bat to knock down the henchman at the box office and strode into the seafood market, Lin Jia and Wang Lin were chatting and laughing beside the seafood market's cold storage.

Of course, this was just a surface appearance. Wang Lin, needless to say, posing as a gentle and elegant rich young masters was already his instinct. As a Sales Director, making the person she was talking to feel comfortable and relaxed was her professional expertise.

"So, because of that steamed bun, you found out that in your father's heart, you were far less important than your Big Brother?" Lin Jia's smile carried just the right amount of sympathy, or rather, pity.

She was indeed pitying him. Wang Lin had just told her why he, as the heir to a family worth tens of billions, had come to engage in smuggling. The reason was that Wang Lin believed his father favored his Big Brother, Wang Hai.

The cause was merely that when Wang Jian, who was still working in a government office back then, returned from a business trip, he brought back a local specialty, Goubuli steamed buns. Wang Hai and Wang Lin, the two brothers, each got two. Wang Hai was older and quick-mouthed. After finishing his share, he pestered Wang Jian for more.

So Wang Jian gave his own to Wang Hai, and this act planted a thorn in Wang Lin's heart.

It was truly a bloodbath triggered by a steamed bun.

This was also the reason for Lin Jia's pity. She had heard a famous saying: intelligence should not be demonstrated by cornering oneself.

Such smart people are actually worse than the intellectually disabled.

"Does it feel very bizarre?" Wang Lin could naturally see the disdain hidden in Lin Jia's smile. He did not get angry but looked at Lin Jia's face with interest.

"I myself find it bizarre. But it was indeed a trigger that made me start thinking about certain issues and observing things I had previously overlooked."

"After more than a decade of observation," he continued, "I came to a conclusion. My father, who seems enlightened and has a great business mind, is actually a very traditional person."

"In his heart, it is a matter of course for the eldest son to inherit the family business. And as the second son," he said with a cold laugh, "being able to assist my Big Brother well is what is considered successful."

Lin Jia was silent. She knew that the next leader of Kelly Investment was indeed Wang Hai; everyone knew this. And although Wang Lin was also a senior executive in the group, he was truly just an auxiliary role.

It did seem a bit unfair, but the bond that held a family together was emotion, not cold calculation of interests.

"I know you don't agree with my view, and based on my investigation during this period, you are an only child. So you probably cannot understand this feeling."

Wang Lin stared at Lin Jia: "But think about it, why should it be like this?"

"You can choose to strive for your father's approval through your own abilities," Lin Jia said with difficulty.

"I did strive," Wang Lin sneered.

"I have always been proving that I am better than Wang Hai. When he was in school, his grades were a mess, and teachers constantly asked for his parents, while I always ranked first in the class."

"When he was fifteen or sixteen, he was hanging out with a bunch of shady friends outside, relying on his family's money, while I was attending various training classes, participating in Olympiads, and winning all sorts of awards."

"Everyone praised me as the pride of the Wang family, saying that the Wang family had a successor. But in the end, I was sent abroad for study!"

"Is studying abroad not good?" Lin Jia retorted.

Wang Lin looked at Lin Jia strangely: "Do you think connections are more important than knowledge in the business world?"

Lin Jia sighed.

She had to admit that Wang Lin had a point. In business, connections were indeed more important than ability, and by a significant margin.

For example, the reason Wang Jian's Kelly Investment could become a leading local real estate company was not because of his great vision or business acumen.

He started his business by relying on his relationship with banks, being able to continuously obtain loans from them. It could even be said that he didn't make money by cutting the 'leeks' of homebuyers from the real estate market, but by directly cutting the 'leeks' of the entire society through banks.

"Even if you hate your father and your brother, that's not a reason for you to smuggle, is it? Especially smuggling seafood contaminated with nuclear radiation!" Lin Jia skipped the topic and spoke with a frown.

"I don't want to be anyone's subordinate; I want to start my own business, and doing anything requires capital." Wang Lin looked at Lin Jia strangely: "Since I control a logistics company and a shipping company, is there any faster way to make money than smuggling?"

"But have you ever thought that doing this will plunge countless families into tragic situations? Don't you know the damage nuclear radiation causes to the human body?" Lin Jia felt a bit helpless.

"So what?" Wang Lin replied indifferently. "They were originally just foxes being raised; being slaughtered is their destined fate."

"Moreover, do you think the small amount of seafood I smuggle can really have any substantial impact on this society?"

"How many people can the seafood I sell affect? A few thousand? Ten thousand?"

Wang Lin's face was calm: "Tainted milk powder, zombie meat, gutter oil, and even gutter oil, toxic cured meat... Which one is not more serious than mere nuclear contamination?"

"So many things have happened, and isn't this society still perfectly fine?"

Lin Jia could no longer speak.

She didn't want to continue dealing with Wang Lin because she found herself having to use all her strength to resist the urge to curse out loud.

She knew she couldn't convince Wang Lin because she was fundamentally not the same kind of being as him.

As the saying goes, poverty breeds cunning, and wealth breeds conscience. Many times, Lin Jia suspected this was just something the rich said to glorify themselves.

Because she deeply felt that the truth was that justice was often found among the humble, and those who were truly kind, possessed noble qualities, and even selflessly sacrificed for the public good were precisely those unknown ordinary people.

And in the eyes of many at the top of the social pyramid, who should bear greater responsibility as their ability increased, ordinary people were just numbers, without joy, anger, sorrow, or emotion; they were just cold figures.

This was indeed the cruel reality of this world.

However, things shouldn't be like this.

She couldn't help but glance towards the entrance.

She knew that after revealing so many secrets, Wang Lin would absolutely not let her leave alive. And it was clear that his desire to talk was almost exhausted, and his patience was reaching its limit.

This meant her death would come soon.

"You are anxious." Wang Lin noticed Lin Jia's gaze, and a hint of malicious pleasure appeared on his face.

"Look, my story is almost finished. Next, it's time to talk about who you are waiting for." He raised his wrist to look at his watch, his gaze falling on Lin Jia.

"I know that behind you, there has always been a smart person guiding you. Otherwise, with your ability and social network, you wouldn't be able to investigate me at all."

"It's just that I've never been able to determine who this person is."

He looked at Lin Jia searchingly: "On the surface, you are a social expert, with high emotional intelligence, making friends easily."

"But in reality, you are actually a closed and conservative person, and it could even be said that you have a bit of social phobia."

"You have many clients whom you call friends, and in your heart, you do indeed regard them as friends. However, there is only one person you truly trust."

"That is your roommate, Su Yue!"

Wang Lin's tone was beyond doubt; clearly, his tracking of Lin Jia during this time had made him extremely confident in his judgment.

"However, I also investigated that Su Yue. But he is just a small wage earner. How could he know about my relationship with Chuangtong Logistics and even Sihai Shipping?"

"How did he pinpoint me?"

"His social circle, the people he interacts with, and even the knowledge and financial resources he possesses, are not enough for him to reach my level!"

"Conversely, if he had such great ability, capable of investigating even such matters, how could he just be a small wage earner, earning a pathetic few thousand yuan a month?"

"Therefore, there is only one answer: the smart person guiding you is someone else, not this Su Yue," Wang Lin concluded calmly.

"You will know soon." When words don't align, few words are needed. Moreover, Lin Jia knew deep down that she could not shake Wang Lin's resolve no matter what, nor could she even slow down his plan.

Because Wang Lin's action of checking his watch just now indicated that he had a clear plan, even a precise timetable.

Since that was the case, she was too lazy to continue acting with Wang Lin and replied coldly.

"You seem to be convinced that someone will come to save you," Wang Lin looked at Lin Jia in surprise. "I don't know who that smart person is, but don't you think this is actually a paradox?"

"Wisdom, simply put, is logical thinking; it is rationality!"

"And the so-called smart person is someone who always maintains rationality, is not swayed by emotions, and doesn't do foolish things."

He made no attempt to hide the regret on his face: "And that's what you lack. Just like right now, you are still naively waiting for that so-called smart person to come and save you."

"The problem is, since wisdom is rationality, even if a smart person could solve this puzzle, rationality would tell him that he simply cannot save you from my hands."

"Even more so, upon learning that you are in danger, he should have run away immediately."

He said cruelly: "Because obviously, after getting rid of you, this smart person is also on my list to be eliminated!"

"Unless he is a fool, like your roommate, Su Yue."

"But even if Su Yue knew you were kidnapped by me and were about to meet your demise, what could he do?"

"With his intelligence, he wouldn't even be able to guess where you are right now!"

"You seem very confident, thinking you can see through everyone in this world?" Lin Jia had also completely stopped pretending at this point, and she spoke with a cold laugh.

"That's not difficult. A person's social class determines the height of their thinking and their behavioral patterns..." Wang Lin tilted his head back again, preparing to let out a loud laugh, but before the laughter could begin, he froze in place.

Because a voice clearly from a walkie-talkie suddenly came from his waist.

"Boss, an outsider has broken in!"

"It's a young man. He is very likely here to save the girl you captured!"
