32: Chapter 31 Night Talk and the Opportunity for a Breakthrough
Night fell, and the temperature in the Icebound Mountain Range dropped to minus forty degrees.
In the temporary camp, the bonfire crackled.
Luo Yu sat by the fire, wrapped in bandages, munching on compressed biscuits.
After a full day of special training, he felt like he was falling apart.
That woman, Su Qingxue, was truly ruthless in her attacks.
"Does it still hurt?"
Su Qingxue walked over with two cups of hot water and handed one to Luo Yu.
"It's okay."
Luo Yu took the cup and deliberately exclaimed, "The recovery ability of an S-rank Awakener is stronger than I imagined. I estimate I'll be recovered by tomorrow."
In reality, thanks to the nourishment from Godzilla, Luo Yu's injuries had already mostly healed.
"That's good." Su Qingxue sat opposite him. "Your performance today was not bad, at least better than I expected."
"Is that so?" Luo Yu grinned. "Why do I feel like I was brutally abused by you?"
"It was already quite good." Su Qingxue said seriously. "Generally, an S-rank Awakener who has just broken through cannot even last five minutes against my attacks."
"Then I should feel honored?"
"I suppose so."
The two fell silent for a while.
The light of the bonfire danced on Su Qingxue's face, making her look less cold.
Luo Yu took a sip of hot water and suddenly thought of a question: "By the way, how did you break through to S-rank? I always feel like this breakthrough was a bit inexplicable."
"Inexplicable?" Su Qingxue raised an eyebrow.
"It just felt like things fell into place naturally, with no special feeling." Luo Yu scratched his head.
Su Qingxue was silent for a few seconds. "Everyone's way of breaking through is different. I was on the edge of life and death, pushed to a desperate situation by an A-rank giant beast, and then I broke through."
"That intense?"
"Yeah, I almost died." Su Qingxue's tone was very calm, as if she were talking about someone else's business.
Luo Yu was stunned for a moment.
This woman was truly ruthless.
"Major Luo Yu." Su Qingxue suddenly spoke up. "Can I ask you a question?"
"What question?"
"Your beast pet... Godzilla." Su Qingxue looked at the Little Lizard lying on Luo Yu's shoulder. "What kind of creature is it exactly?"
Luo Yu was stunned for a moment.
This question, he actually didn't know how to answer either.
"To tell you the truth, I'm not entirely sure either." Luo Yu affectionately stroked the Little Lizard's head. "You just need to know that it is called Godzilla, and it is the king of monsters."
"The king of monsters..."
Su Qingxue murmured to herself, "It deserves this title. It made me realize how small humans are in the face of true power."
There was no helping it; the eight nuclear radiation forbidden zones were easily handled by Godzilla, and even now, Su Qingxue felt a shock to her soul whenever she thought about it.
Luo Yu understood the meaning behind her words.
"Are you afraid of it?"
"Not afraid." Su Qingxue revealed a look of solemnity. "It is awe."
"Awe?"
"Yes." Su Qingxue looked at the bonfire. "I was taught from a young age that humans are the spirit of all things and the masters of this planet. But the appearance of Godzilla made me realize one thing—we might just be passersby on this planet."
Luo Yu was silent.
He understood what Su Qingxue meant.
Godzilla's power had already surpassed human cognition.
It was already this terrifying without fully evolving; if it were to fully evolve, it might easily destroy a city, or even a country.
"However..." Su Qingxue changed the subject. "I believe in you."
"Hmm?"
"I believe you can control it." Su Qingxue looked at Luo Yu seriously. "Because I can tell that it trusts you very much."
Luo Yu looked down at the Little Lizard on his shoulder.
The little guy was dozing with its eyes closed, occasionally letting out "hissing" snoring sounds.
That's right!
Who could have thought that this harmless-looking little thing was a monster capable of destroying a city?
"Don't worry." Luo Yu couldn't help but laugh. "Godzilla, it is very obedient."
As soon as he finished speaking, the Little Lizard suddenly opened its eyes, a flash of light in its vertical pupils, as if protesting something.
Luo Yu quickly added, "Alright, obedient most of the time."
Su Qingxue rarely showed a smile.
"I hope so."
The two chatted for a while longer, and the topic gradually shifted from Godzilla to other aspects.
"By the way, why did you choose to become a soldier?" Luo Yu asked curiously.
Su Qingxue was stunned for a moment, her eyes becoming somewhat unfocused.
"Because of my father."
"Your father?"
"He was a soldier." Su Qingxue's voice became soft. "In the third year of the Abyss Era, he sacrificed himself at the East Sea Defense Line."
Luo Yu was silent.
"I was only ten years old at the time." Su Qingxue continued. "I remember very clearly that it was raining heavily that day, and two people in military uniforms came to our house and told my mother that Dad had sacrificed himself."
"Mom fainted on the spot. I stood at the doorway, looking at the martyr's certificate that those two people handed over, and suddenly realized one thing—Dad would never come back."
She looked up at the night sky.
"From that day on, I swore that I would become a soldier like my father, to protect this country and protect those who do not want to lose their loved ones."
After listening, a sense of respect welled up in Luo Yu's heart.
"Your father would definitely be proud of you."
"I hope so." Su Qingxue smiled, but the smile was a bit bitter. "But to be honest, sometimes I also doubt whether what I am doing is worth it."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because..." Su Qingxue looked at the bonfire. "The Abyssal Giant Beast are getting stronger, and humans are getting weaker. Sometimes I wonder, what are we fighting so hard for? One day, humans will lose this war."
"No, we won't." Luo Yu said with a firm tone. "As long as there are people fighting, humanity will not lose."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because..." Luo Yu patted the Little Lizard on his shoulder and grinned. "We have Godzilla."
The Little Lizard lifted its head in cooperation and let out a "hissing" sound.
"..."
Su Qingxue looked at the Little Lizard, her eyes complex.
"I hope you are right."
The night deepened.
Su Qingxue returned to her tent to rest.
Luo Yu sat alone by the bonfire, watching the dancing flames.
Today's conversation with Su Qingxue made him think a lot.
Godzilla's power was indeed terrifyingly strong, but... this power was also a double-edged sword.
If not controlled well, it would not only harm the enemy but also harm himself.
"Godzilla." Luo Yu stroked the Little Lizard's head. "Tell me, can I always control you?"
The Little Lizard opened its eyes, a blank light flickering in those vertical pupils.
It did not answer, only rubbed its head against Luo Yu's cheek.
Luo Yu couldn't help but laugh.
"I'll take that as you saying 'yes'."
Thinking that he still had the system, Luo Yu stood up without any worry, walked into the tent, and lay down in his sleeping bag.
Closing his eyes, Luo Yu sank his consciousness into his body.
The spiritual power of an S-rank Awakener flowed through his meridians; it looked violent, but it was much more stable than before.
"In another day, I should be able to fully control it."
Thinking of this, Luo Yu revealed a smile.
He couldn't wait for the battle with the Abyssal Giant Beast in three days.
The king of monsters - Godzilla, still needed to fight the Abyssal Giant Beast to demonstrate its strength.
