81: Wild fishing spot

Zhang Kai, Zhang Qin, Zhang Qin's two best friends, and their husbands—a total of six people—embarked on a journey to find delicious food.

Originally, Zhang Qin was still angry and had unilaterally revoked Zhang Kai's fishing privileges.

But as luck would have it, the other two men accompanying them were also avid anglers.

Facing Zhang Kai's maddeningly envious gaze, Zhang Qin's heart eventually softened.

Thus, an MPV with fishing equipment strapped to its roof departed from the city, driving all the way to Nameless Lake.

Loud music blared from inside the car.

Laughter and joy radiated from the faces of the owner and passengers.

However, what they didn't notice was a car that had appeared behind them at some point, following closely.

At this moment, in the car behind, a man was explaining the reason to his girlfriend.

"Did you notice? Their car roof is covered in fishing equipment. What does that tell you?"

His girlfriend was confused.

"What does it tell me?"

The man rubbed his nose, smiling proudly.

"It tells you that the people in this car are all anglers, and they're going fishing. And looking at their direction, they're heading to the suburbs, which means they're going to a wild fishing spot."

His girlfriend rolled her eyes.

"So, after all that, you're eyeing someone else's secret fishing spot? Wouldn't it be better to just go to a fishing ground to satisfy your craving?"

The man chuckled.

"You don't understand the joy of wild fishing spots; black pits can't compare. Anyway, I, Yue Yifei, am determined to fish at this wild spot tonight!"

His girlfriend couldn't be bothered with him and pulled out her makeup mirror to touch up her makeup.

The phone on the center console suddenly rang.

His girlfriend saw the caller ID and said grumpily:

"Your good buddy is calling."

She answered casually and put it on speakerphone.

Yue Yifei cheerfully spoke.

"Old Yu, what's up?"

Yu Zhenzhong, on the other end of the line, sounded a bit dejected.

"Everyone in the group searched all day today, but there's still no news of the Little Boss. Want to grab a drink tonight?"

Yue Yifei couldn't help but laugh.

"You people are just too deliberate. How could the Little Boss be easily found by mere mortals like you?"

Yu Zhenzhong laughed in exasperation.

"If we don't deliberately look for him, is he going to fly to us and meet us?"

Yue Yifei shrugged.

"That's not necessarily true. Maybe I'll go fishing now, turn around, and find the Little Boss right behind me."

Yu Zhenzhong rolled his eyes. His old friend was good in every way, except he was too laid-back, always believing in 'going with the flow' for everything.

"Alright, alright, I hear you're going fishing. Well, I wish you not only a great catch tonight but also a chance to eat the Little Boss's delicious food."

Yue Yifei grinned widely.

"I'll take that as a good omen. I'll send you my location when I get there. Want to come over and fish together?"

Yu Zhenzhong had already hung up the phone.

Yue Yifei shook his head speechlessly and continued to focus on driving.

During their conversation, the car in front had already turned onto a small road, and the sky was gradually darkening.

Worried about losing them, Yue Yifei quickly followed closer.

Soon, a "Deep Water Danger" sign appeared ahead.

This brought a look of joy to Yue Yifei's face; it seemed they had arrived.

After driving for another five or six minutes, the car in front finally stopped.

Having followed them this far, Yue Yifei could already see the shimmering lake surface ahead and pulled his car to a stop.

He then grabbed his fishing gear, night light, stool, mosquito coils, and insect repellent from the trunk, and walked towards the lake with his girlfriend's hand in his.

The lake surface in the sunset was crimson, like melted amber, with orange-red flames flowing through every ripple.

A snow-white bird swooped low over the lake, accurately snatching a small fish and disappearing into the depths of the dark forest.

Reeds on the shore swayed their purplish-brown plumes, their reflections wrinkled into abstract paintings by the ripples.

"It's so beautiful!"

His girlfriend jumped with joy, occasionally dipping her feet into the lake, splashing water.

Yue Yifei quickly held his girlfriend's hand tightly, afraid she might accidentally fall into the water.

"Be careful, it's slippery."

His girlfriend pouted but still nestled against his arm like a small bird.

"I heard you, I heard you! Both ears heard you~"

The two walked a bit further, until they reached a part of the lake with lush aquatic plants.

Yue Yifei's eyes lit up, and he quickly said:

"This is the spot."

His girlfriend looked worriedly at the swarm of insects circling above their heads.

"Why here? It looks like there are so many mosquitoes!"

Yue Yifei was about to explain when he heard laughter from behind them.

He turned his head and saw that it was the people who had gotten out of the car in front.

This was awkward; surely he hadn't taken someone else's baiting spot.

Indeed, one of the men, upon seeing Yue Yifei and his girlfriend, immediately changed his expression, then anxiously broke away from his group and walked quickly towards them.

Yue Yifei's heart sank when he saw this scene.

At this moment, the other party had already walked up to them, speaking with a mix of anxiety and embarrassment:

"Are you planning to fish here? But this is where I usually fish. I even laid bait yesterday before leaving. You can look at the aquatic plants to your front-left; there's still some bait I accidentally spilled when I was laying it."

Yue Yifei looked over and indeed found dark bait residue on the leaves of that patch of aquatic plants.

Although there's no concept of claiming a spot when wild fishing, it's generally understood to be first-come, first-served.

But Yue Yifei was not an unreasonable person, so he nodded, preparing to take his girlfriend elsewhere.

The newcomer was Zhang Kai, and seeing Yue Yifei so agreeable, he felt a bit embarrassed himself.

"Buddy, I'm really sorry."

Zhang Kai pulled out an unopened pack of cigarettes and handed it over.

"Normally, I wouldn't say another word, but tonight is special. That's my wife behind me, and her friends. Please be understanding."

Yue Yifei immediately felt much better and said cheerfully:

"I understand, I understand. It seems the resources here are indeed good; otherwise, you wouldn't have brought your wife here."

"That's not entirely the reason; it's a bit complicated to explain."

Zhang Kai took out another pack of cigarettes, offered one to Yue Yifei, and put one in his own mouth.

"But by nine o'clock tonight, you'll know why. Remember, you must wait until nine, then come over to my side."

Seeing Zhang Kai's mysterious expression, Yue Yifei's curiosity was immediately piqued.

However, he was a laid-back person at heart and wasn't prepared to ask for a full explanation now, so he smiled and nodded, then walked forward with his girlfriend's hand in his.

Zhang Kai watched Yue Yifei and his girlfriend leave, then eagerly turned back to Zhang Qin and the others, helping them carry the various items, big and small.

Fishing time can pass very quickly, or very slowly.

With his wife by his side, chatting and laughing, even if he didn't catch any fish for a while, Zhang Kai wouldn't feel bored; instead, he felt a strange sense of novelty.
