Chapter 88 Emergency Investigation

Inside Li Jiajun's factory manager office.

As the live stream signal was cut, the noise and revelry of the online world vanished instantly, replaced by a tense silence. Inside the office, only the faint hum of the air conditioning vent remained, along with over a dozen powerful gazes, focused like spotlights on one person.

Li Jiajun froze in his executive chair; the expression that had locked up upon seeing the investigation team return was slowly recovering. It took him about five seconds to accept reality—these people were back, and the lineup was even more formidable than last time, their gazes even more wary.

He slowly lowered the hand he had been holding in mid-air from his speech, squeezing out a smile that he considered his most sincere, innocent, and non-aggressive one.

"Oh my! Distinguished leaders, distinguished Experts! What wind blew you all here?" He stood up from his chair with enthusiasm, his movements as natural as if he hadn't been the one frozen just a moment ago. "Please, sit, please sit! Come, Big Hammer, didn't you see the leaders arrive? Hurry up, get my cherished iced Coke out to treat our distinguished guests!"

As he spoke, he reached for the cabinet. However, no one moved.

The Old General just watched him quietly, his eyes deep and unreadable. Liu Jianguo stood to the side, the helpless expression on his face unchanged; his gaze toward Li Jiajun was full of resignation, the meaning clear: keep acting, let's see how long you can keep it up.

And that group of new Experts, especially those led by Academician Zhang Jingmin, stepped forward, staring at him with eager eyes; the posture didn't look like they were here to ask questions, but rather as if they were preparing to study him right there on the spot.

"Comrade Li Jiajun." Finally, a middle-aged Expert beside the Old General spoke first. He pushed up his glasses and went straight to the point in a serious tone: "We are here this time to inquire about some technical questions regarding the dragon knight no. 1 children's car."

It was here; the main event had finally arrived.

Li Jiajun's heart sank, but he still didn't understand. He hadn't done anything; he had just built a toy car. Could it be that the child drove too fast in the neighborhood and was reported by parents? But at most, that would be a civil dispute over speeding; it shouldn't be enough to warrant a second visit from an investigation team of this caliber, right?

He still wore that enthusiastic, beaming smile: "The dragon knight no. 1? Oh, oh, oh, you mean my latest children's toy! Easy, easy! Leaders, ask whatever you want to know; I guarantee I'll tell you everything I know, without holding anything back! We are a legitimate private enterprise, and our products can absolutely withstand any inspection!"

He patted his chest, looking upright and honorable.

"Legitimate enterprise? Children's toy?" Academician Zhang Jingmin finally couldn't hold back. He took a step forward, the report in his hand slightly crumpled from his grip. He pointed to the data on the report, his voice trembling slightly from suppressed excitement: "Comrade Li, according to the test data provided by the Baishui City police, your children's toy reached a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour on the highway! 300 kilometers! It's faster than many proper sports cars! You call this a slightly fast children's toy?"

This question hit like a heavy hammer, echoing in Li Jiajun's brain. 'Highway? 300 kilometers?'

The smile on his face instantly froze, and his mind went blank. He remembered that brat with the ID Long Aoao. The child looked refined and even said he just wanted to be the neighborhood racing king.

'Damn it! I've been tricked by that brat!' A thought appeared frantically in his mind. 'What neighborhood racing king? He wants to be the road reaper of Baishui City! This isn't a sensible child; this is clearly a mischievous kid!'

This massive information shock stunned him on the spot. But his strong survival instinct forced his brain to start working again after 0.1 seconds. He knew he absolutely could not admit to this! If he admitted it, it would all be over!

Thus, a flash of perfectly timed surprise appeared on his face, immediately turning into an aggrieved expression of "So that's what this is about."

"300 kilometers? Is it really that fast?" He scratched his head, saying with an innocent face, "Oh my, distinguished Experts, you are really wronging me! Let me tell you, this is entirely for safety!"

"For safety?" A young Expert was so angry he almost laughed out loud. "A children's car with a speed of 300 kilometers per hour, and you tell me it's for safety?"

"Of course!" Li Jiajun said with a matter-of-fact face, activating his Li-style sophistry. "You are all in technology, so you must understand this principle. Whether something is safe depends on its limit-bearing capacity, right? I have to ensure that the car frame won't fall apart under the most extreme conditions so that I can safely hand it over to a child!"

He got more and more animated as he spoke, even using an analogy: "It's like this: if I make a cup and say it can hold 100-degree boiling water, then when I test it, shouldn't I use 120-degree or even 150-degree water? I have to ensure it has no problems under extreme conditions to prove it is absolutely safe under normal use!"

"So," he spread his hands, wearing an expression of "I'm doing this for the kids," "I raised the performance limit of this car high just to ensure that it has sufficient safety redundancy when driving at low speeds! I'm doing this for safety, for the next generation! Do you think this is easy for me?"

This line of reasoning, which sounded untenable, left all the Experts present speechless for a moment. They stared with wide eyes, their chests heaving.

Liu Jianguo stood in the back, the corners of his mouth twitching continuously. He had to turn his head away, using violent coughing to hide the laughter he was about to burst out with. 'This kid, it's a waste of talent if he doesn't work as a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs!'

Just as the atmosphere on the scene was deadlocked and the Experts felt the pressure rising, the office door was pushed open again.

The Big Smart One manager, Wang Dachui, walked in with an honest face, carrying a tray full of teacups.

As soon as he entered, he saw his beloved boss surrounded by a group of people who looked like they were not to be trifled with, looking aggrieved and unable to defend himself.

A strong sense of protection instantly surged from the bottom of Wang Dachui's heart. He felt it was time to show his worth and clear his boss of false accusations!

He slammed the tea tray onto the table with a loud bang, successfully attracting everyone's attention.

Then, he took a step forward, puffed out his chest, and announced loudly in an incomparably proud and boastful tone:

"Distinguished leaders! You have all misunderstood our factory manager! He is just too modest, too low-key; he always likes to hide his own contributions!"

As soon as Li Jiajun heard this, a bad premonition surged in his heart. He wanted to stop him, but it was already too late.

He only heard Wang Dachui continue in his loud, resonant voice:

"You mentioned that 300-kilometer speed, right? Let me tell you! That is absolutely not our car's limit!"

"That is the electronic speed limiter that our factory manager specially, specifically, and personally added for the safety of the children!"

"If there were no speed limiter, this car could go even faster! Much faster!"

Wang Dachui's voice echoed in the office, every word clear and forceful, filled with the pride of vindicating a great invention.

After he finished speaking, he glanced triumphantly at Li Jiajun, his eyes seeming to say: 'Boss, how was that assist? Did I turn the tide or what!'

However, he did not wait for his boss's approving gaze.

He only saw that the entire office had fallen into a silence more thorough and unsettling than any time before.

The air solidified, and time stopped.

The group of Experts who were just full of emotion were now all standing there stunned, as if collectively hit by a freezing spell. Their mouths were slightly open, their eyes vacant, and their brains seemed to have given up on understanding the four words "electronic speed limiter."

The report in Academician Zhang Jingmin's hand fell to the floor with a rustle, but he was completely unaware.

Liu Jianguo could no longer hold it in. He had just wanted to take a sip of tea to calm his nerves, but after hearing that sentence, he sprayed out a mouthful of hot tea, then bent over, emitting a series of earth-shattering coughs that sounded like crying and laughing at the same time, tears streaming down his face.

And Li Jiajun, who was at the center of the storm, the aggrieved expression of "I am a law-abiding citizen" on his face froze completely.

He slowly, slowly turned his head, staring fixedly at his loyal, Big Smart One manager with the look one might use on a prehistoric creature. In his eyes, there was no longer any anger, only a despair of seeing the truth, accompanied by a numbness of having lost the will to live.

'It's over.' A thought emerged in his mind, 'Completely finished.'
