264: Chapter 264 Treasure Land 34

Luo Yuejian randomly chose another fork in the path to continue forward.

Having walked past several forks, her mind was now calm as still water. She did not need any rhymes to choose her path anymore; she just closed her eyes and walked.

Continuing forward, because she was searching for clues (×) or wasting time (√), Luo Yuejian often stopped to admire the treasures displayed in the niches on both sides of the corridor.

While looking around, her gaze was suddenly drawn to a small, uniquely shaped Buddha statue in a nearby niche.

This Buddha statue somewhat resembled the Maitreya Buddha, but strangely, this Maitreya had hair.

A monk with hair...

Luo Yuejian had truly never seen such a bizarrely styled Buddha statue, so out of curiosity and a desire for novelty, she picked it up to examine it.

The statue itself appeared to be made of a metal like copper, but due to oxidation, its original color was no longer visible.

Strangely, however, the material of the Buddha's eyes was different from the metal on the rest of its body; it was something black, similar to obsidian.

Luo Yuejian had originally just turned the statue in her hand, but under the illumination of the matchstick, a strange red glow seemed to appear in those eyes.

It was actually just a common reflection, but in this environment, it immediately made the originally kind and peaceful Buddha statue look ferocious, sending a shiver down her spine.

Upon noticing the eerie expression in the Buddha's eyes, Luo Yuejian was instantly startled and threw the statue in her hand away.

And just as Luo Yuejian threw the statue, following the "clang" of it hitting the ground, the wall at the niche where the statue had originally been placed actually began to slowly rotate!

The wall turned ninety degrees, revealing a pitch-black passage behind it. First, a few stone steps extended downward, followed by a long, narrow corridor that disappeared into the darkness at the end. The light of the matchstick illuminated the damp, gray-blue stone walls, and a musty smell seemed to permeate the air.

Seeing this corridor appear, Luo Yuejian finally realized what had happened.

Luo Yuejian: ?

Holy crap, this place is a trap!

Didn't she just throw the Buddha statue away? How did that trigger a hidden plot? Could it be that throwing away any of the collectibles in this place would open this kind of hidden passage?

Luo Yuejian was completely baffled as to how the passage ahead had appeared, yet among the viewers in the livestream room, an expert provided a reasonable explanation.

[After this season of the Miracle Escape Live Stream Game started, because of the unique identities of the players, I specifically went to learn about their backgrounds and language culture. The room Moon God entered after descending on the circular metal disc contained many parchment scrolls, which happened to be written in a language I have studied. Those scrolls were basically the adventure experiences of the Treasure Owners who built this place. Each scroll began with the same sentence— "We never believe in gods, we only believe in ourselves." Moon God specifically flipped through those scrolls at the time and must have noticed this sentence. Since these Treasure Owners don't believe in gods, why would they specifically collect Buddha statues? I think this was when Moon God realized something was wrong. So, when she saw that Buddha statue among the collection, she immediately chose to throw it away, and sure enough, it triggered the mechanism.]

[666, an expert has appeared in the comments!]

[Awesome, is the person above an academic researcher? You watch the livestream too? You actually happen to like the same streamer as me; rounding up, I'm an expert too, hehe...]

[As expected of Moon God. Even if I could read the text on those parchment scrolls, I would absolutely never have noticed that Buddha statue. After all, it was mixed in with so many other collectibles and was not eye-catching at all.]

[Yeah, and even if one could realize that the Buddha statue was problematic, who would have thought that the way to open the corridor was to throw the statue away?]

[And Moon God was really decisive when she threw that Buddha statue; she didn't hesitate at all, clearly very certain of her conjecture and judgment.]

[Moon God is really good at putting herself in the shoes of the person who designed the level to think about problems. I remember this happening before; Moon God adopted the mindset of the person who designed the trap to look at the problem and very easily thought of a way to solve the trap.]

[Hey, I suddenly thought, if Moon God were to design a Miracle Escape Live Stream Game, wouldn't that be super interesting?]

[Holy crap, what you said makes me excited! I really want to see that too!]

[Want to see +1!]

...

Luo Yuejian stood there, stunned for a while, completely unsure of how she had triggered the mechanism. However, the passage in front of her had already opened, so she couldn't just not go in, could she...

Sighing, Luo Yuejian entered the passage.

The passage she had just walked through was more of a long, narrow antique display gallery than a corridor. However, unlike the previous passage, this one gave the feeling of an underground tunnel.

The floor of the corridor was paved with old, gray-brown stone tiles, appearing somewhat uneven. When Luo Yuejian walked on them, she could clearly feel the undulations beneath her feet.

There were no oil lamps to light on the walls on either side; it was just pitch black. But when Luo Yuejian illuminated it with her matchstick, she could see, in the faint light, that there seemed to be faint patterns carved on them, looking mysterious and ancient. Because the surrounding light was dim, she almost tripped and had to steady herself against the wall.

This corridor was very winding, requiring a change in direction every few steps, making it quite long to walk through. Luo Yuejian walked until she was dizzy and disoriented, not even knowing which direction she was heading.

Just as she was walking along, suddenly, a faint scent of wine drifted into her nose. This scent of wine was not strong, but like a wisp of light smoke, it lingered in the air.

Luo Yuejian herself did not like to drink, and she had no special feelings about the taste of alcohol. But now, smelling this drifting scent of wine in the air, she uncontrollably developed a desire to taste it.

Almost subconsciously, Luo Yuejian quickened her pace, heading uncontrollably toward the source of the wine scent.

After walking for another twenty minutes or so, turning this way and that, a faint light unexpectedly appeared ahead.

Honestly, walking in such a pitch-black underground corridor, where the light of the matchstick in her hand could only illuminate a small part of the path ahead, Luo Yuejian had actually gotten used to the darkness.

Now, suddenly seeing the light ahead, she really found it a bit dazzling for a moment and couldn't help but squint.
