7: First sight of the North Star
He suddenly found himself in a new place.
Still in mid-air.
Joa frantically adjusted his posture.
He landed on the ground somewhat awkwardly.
“Damn, that was too sudden.”
He looked around, observing the exceptionally quiet forest under the night sky.
Joa took out a pistol from his system space, muttering with a wary expression.
“Where did it throw me?”
“I should have bought a night vision helmet before trying to cross over.”
“But it doesn't matter.”
“the gifted is a Mutant story independent of other Universes.”
“The timeline is probably in the blank period after the 2006 main story and before Days of Future Past.”
“The X-Men, the Brotherhood of Mutants, and Magneto have all disappeared.”
“The Sentinel Services has been established, and is massively hunting Mutants.”
“With the two major Mutant factions gone, and the remaining Mutants hiding, given his current physical fitness, he should be relatively safe in this World.”
“In short, the urgent matter is to first leave this ghost place and find a way to locate Polaris, then bring her to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to rob banks with him.”
“Who cares what happens to the other Mutants in this World.”
Having determined his goal.
Joa turned on the flashlight on his pistol and cautiously advanced step by step in one direction.
Walking alone in a terrifyingly quiet forest in the middle of the night can give one goosebumps.
It wasn't that he was afraid of bad people.
He was mainly afraid of ghosts.
Although he knew that ghosts couldn't exist in this World and there was no such setting at all.
But Joa still felt a little uneasy.
He unconsciously quickened his pace.
Soon, Joa arrived at a road in the forest.
The road was clean and tidy, with only a few fallen leaves, indicating that it was regularly cleaned.
“It seems this place isn't that remote.”
“Then I'll wait here for a while.”
“Let's see if any unlucky NPC drives by here so I can commandeer their vehicle.”
Standing by the road, Joa licked his dry lips.
He felt a little thirsty.
‘I need to keep some food and Water in the system space from now on.’
After waiting for a long time, no vehicles passed by.
Joa gradually lost patience.
Just as he was about to give up waiting idly and walk along the road to the town.
Faint Police sirens sounded in the distance.
A moment later.
The bend in the road was illuminated by dazzling headlights.
Immediately after, a pickup truck turned directly at a nearly 90° corner at an extremely fast speed.
This caused Joa, whose driving skills were at Level 5, reaching that of a professional race car driver, to feel an uncontrollable sense of surprise.
‘Passing a 90° turn at this speed, what kind of deity is this?’
Seeing the pickup truck quickly approaching him, with Police sirens blaring behind it.
Joa slowly retreated into the forest behind him.
Out of professional habit, he instinctively wanted to hide whenever he saw the Police now.
Hidden behind a tree, Joa's gaze was quietly fixed on the driver's seat of the pickup truck.
He wanted to see who this divine being was, driving like that?
The extremely fast pickup truck roared past on the road.
Joa and the pickup truck driver, who had also noticed him, briefly made eye contact.
Short dark green hair, young and extremely beautiful, with a stern expression, exuding a capable aura from within, made Joa recognize her at a glance as the person he was looking for.
Polaris, Lorna Dane.
‘Then these Police pursuing her are…’
Polaris's pickup truck drove further and further away.
The Police cars chasing her behind had just slowed down to turn the corner.
‘It seems I'm lucky; I just got here and found my target.’
He put away his pistol and replaced it with an AK47 equipped with a drum magazine.
Joa hid behind the tree and raised his gun, aiming at the drivers of the Police cars.
The Police, who had just rounded the corner and were preparing to speed up to pursue Polaris, did not notice Joa hiding in the dark at all.
Until the gunfire erupted.
Bang! Bang bang!
Da da da da da da!
A few bursts of fire, followed by continuous gunfire like firecrackers.
It wasn't that every shot hit, but the hit rate was at least over 80%.
The two leading Police cars, the moment the gunfire sounded, immediately lost control, swerving left and right, rushing off the road, and crashing head-on into tree trunks.
This sudden turn of events made the Police behind them face a formidable enemy.
They all braked and stopped on the road, beginning to return fire towards where Joa was shooting from.
Retreating behind the tree, using the cover, Joa quietly shifted his position.
At the same time, he carefully distinguished the types of firearms these Police were using.
‘Glock, 9mm pistol?’
Holding the AK47 in his hand, Joa's lips curved into a smile.
Immediately, his figure moved like a ghost, weaving back and forth through the forest.
He fired a shot, then moved to a new location, constantly harvesting the lives of these Police.
In the distance, Polaris, who was gradually driving away, heard the gunfire from behind and slowly reduced her speed.
She looked back through the rearview mirror in confusion.
“What's going on?”
“What happened?”
“Was it that person from before?”
The Asian face hiding behind the tree earlier flashed in her mind.
Polaris hesitated whether to go back and check.
Since her father Magneto disappeared, she had been living a life of constant hiding.
The Police, Sentinel Services, FIB.
The massive official manhunts made her life very difficult.
The reason she was exposed this time.
Was because on her way to buy hair dye, she was stopped by some ignorant Nigger who tried to assault her.
During her resistance, she was accidentally discovered by patrolling Police.
‘Why did that guy help me?’
‘Could he also be a Mutant?’
As soon as she thought she might have encountered a fellow Mutant.
Polaris slammed on the brakes, and then the vehicle levitated, rotating 180° in the air.
She floored the accelerator, then the pickup truck landed, tire smoke accompanied by the piercing roar of the engine, and sped back in the direction she came from.
If it was indeed a fellow Mutant like her helping her escape, she absolutely could not ignore him.
······
“Please… request backup, location… is…”
Whoosh! Bang! went the sound.
Before he could finish speaking, the heavily wounded Police officer slumped to the ground, lifeless.
“This should be the last one.”
The gunfire completely ceased, leaving only the sound of Police sirens in the air.
Joa, expressionless, held his gun with one hand and sat in a Police car riddled with bullet holes and shattered glass.
Unsure which button turned off the siren, Joa pressed randomly, and the Police car's siren was successfully turned off.
He didn't want to be misunderstood by Polaris when he drove after her.
He had just started the engine, preparing to chase Polaris.
Joa suddenly saw distant high beams approaching.
“Damn it, did I waste too much time, is backup here?”
“Could it be a Sentinel robot?”
“My current small body can't withstand that!”
The opposing vehicle was extremely fast, and Joa had no time to get out and escape.
Just as he was about to temporarily give up on Polaris and return to the Marvel Universe.
The pickup truck that had roared past him not long ago came into view.
“Polaris? Why did she turn back?”
Joa watched in confusion as Polaris's pickup truck stopped not far ahead, and both Joa and Polaris slowly opened their doors and got out of their vehicles.
