8: Young, gullible, like a stupid college student

The two looked at each other.

They scrutinized each other.

Neither spoke first.

After a long while,

Polaris gestured with her chin towards her pickup truck.

"Get in."

With that, Polaris raised her right hand, and the pickup truck lifted into the air, completing a 180° turn.

Seeing this, Joa shrugged with a smile, praising in a surprised tone.

"Oh, cool!"

"This ability is simply too convenient!"

Hearing Joa's praise, the corners of Polaris's mouth curved slightly.

She confirmed her guess in her heart.

The seemingly frail Asian man opposite her, who had single-handedly dealt with all the Police pursuing her, was definitely also a Mutant.

Following Polaris, he sat in the passenger seat of the pickup truck.

The two drove away.

On the highway,

Inside the speeding pickup truck,

Polaris drove, occasionally stealing glances at Joa in the passenger seat.

"Is there something on my face?"

Noticing Polaris's frequent glances, Joa wiped his face.

"Got some blood on it?"

"Hehe, no, I'm just curious because it's my first time seeing an Asian Mutant."

Hearing Polaris's words, Joa raised an eyebrow.

'A Mutant? Me?'

'Hiss, this identity seems to make it easier to gain Polaris's trust.'

"Hmm, Asian Mutants are indeed rare."

"As far as I know, including me, there are only about three or four so far."

"Currently, in this World, besides me, there's only another one named Jubilation Lee."

Hearing Joa's words, Polaris spoke with some excitement.

"You know the whereabouts of other Mutants?"

She had had enough of living alone, constantly hiding.

Lonely, isolated, always on high alert.

She didn't even have a companion to confide in, completely out of place in the World of ordinary people, daring not to relax for a moment, fearing that ordinary people would discover her abnormality.

This kind of life... this kind of life... she was truly, truly fed up!

Now that she had met another Mutant, Polaris felt an indescribable excitement and thrill in her heart.

Sensing the emotion in Polaris's tone,

Joa chuckled inwardly.

'It seems the difficulty of enticing Polaris is much lower than I imagined.'

"Sorry, I don't know the whereabouts of other Mutants; I just know of their existence."

"I'm already very grateful for Lady Luck's favor to have met You today."

Hearing this, Polaris was slightly disappointed, but as Joa said,

Meeting a fellow Mutant was already a blessing from Lady Luck.

At least she wouldn't be lonely anymore, right?

Putting the matter of other Mutants out of her mind,

Polaris's attention focused on Joa.

A hint of doubt arose in her heart.

"You... know me?"

"Of course, Polaris, Lorna Dane, Magneto's third daughter, with the ability to control magnetic fields and metal."

Having her name, origin, and abilities spoken by Joa, Polaris was shocked, slamming on the brakes, bringing the pickup truck to an abrupt halt.

She turned her head, eyes wide, looking at Joa.

Polaris questioned him, filled with surprise and uncertainty.

"Who exactly are You? Have we met before?"

"How do You know so much about me?"

Seeing Polaris's brows slightly furrowed, her expression wary as she scrutinized him,

Joa smiled and comforted her.

"Calm down, calm down, I mean no harm, don't get excited yet."

"Let me slowly make it up to You... ahem, let me slowly tell You."

Hearing this, Polaris's expression softened a bit, and she quietly watched Joa.

"My ability is spatial, not very strong."

Saying this, Joa used his system space to once again perform the trick of conjuring objects out of thin air, just as he had fooled the Nigger.

Seeing an AK47 suddenly appear in Joa's empty hands, then disappear and turn into a pistol, and finally his hands were empty again,

Polaris's expression completely relaxed.

Such an ability was indeed that of a Mutant.

As a fellow Mutant, Polaris was clearly more tolerant and willing to give more trust.

But some questions still needed to be clarified.

"Who exactly are You? How are You so clear about my situation?"

"My name is Joa, and You know my ability."

"The story begins with the disappearance of the X-Men and Magneto's Brotherhood."

"After the two major organizations protecting Mutants disappeared, Mutants faced unprecedented government crackdown."

"Countless Mutants were arrested, killed, and the rest scattered and fled, living like rats."

"I'm the same."

Hearing this, Polaris felt a deep resonance, and her gaze towards Joa softened considerably.

She could fully understand how difficult those days had been.

Because she had gone through the same thing.

She wanted to say something, but the words caught in her throat, and she didn't know where to begin, so she could only sigh.

Seeing that the other party believed his story and that he had resonated with her emotions, Joa struck while the iron was hot.

"It's nothing, we all made it through, didn't we?"

"Hmm..."

"During one Police chase, my ability unexpectedly evolved, and I accidentally opened a door to another Universe."

"Hmm?"

Polaris, who was feeling a bit sentimental, was caught off guard by this sudden twist, she let out a soft sound of confusion and looked at Joa bewildered.

Smiling, he raised his hand, signaling her not to ask and to continue listening to his fabrication... story.

Joa began to tell his hastily concocted story.

"In desperation, to escape, I went to another Universe."

"That was a World without Mutants, without the Sentinel Services."

"In that World, Mutants wouldn't be universally reviled; they could live normal lives."

"They could marry and have children, they could do anything a normal person could do."

As Joa described it, Polaris involuntarily immersed herself, fantasizing about what kind of life she would lead in such a World.

After a long while,

Polaris sighed.

"Alas, it sounds like a dream."

"I truly wish what You said was true."

Such a beautiful World made it difficult for Polaris to believe at first, but at the same time, her heart secretly hoped that Joa wasn't deceiving her.

Meeting the expectation in Polaris's eyes, Joa smiled, a very happy smile.

Young, though experienced, wary of the Police and ordinary people, yet full of trust in Mutants.

'Surprisingly easy to fool, like a foolish college student.'

'Tsk, I can't say that either, what I said was all true, I didn't deceive her.'

"I'm doing pretty well over there; I have my own company."

"No need to worry about identity issues; I can help You solve them."

"Will You... come with me?"

"To a World without Mutants, to live a normal life."

Facing Joa's sudden invitation,

Polaris froze.

Should she... go?

Leave... this World that filled her with loneliness and despair.

'There's nothing to hesitate about; after my father disappeared, this World that never loved me isn't worth lingering in!'

Her gaze gradually firmed, Polaris looked at Joa intently.

"What should I do?"

Seeing Polaris's serious yet apprehensive expression towards the unknown, Joa extended his hand.

"You don't need to do anything."

"You just need to..."

"Trust me."
