136: Chapter 136 Special Protection

In the afternoon, Ding Quxiao sat at home the entire time.

Li Runfa was still out handling company business. However, he sent a message in the meantime, saying he would take her there tomorrow.

Ding Quxiao felt very lonely; she hadn't expected her life to turn out like this.

Scrolling through her phone, there seemed to be no one she could contact, and she had no friends to speak of.

She felt like she was the most failed woman in the world.

She first saw her daughter's social media feed—how did that wretched girl get another tattoo on her arm?

She immediately pulled up her daughter's chat box, wanting to send a message, but she held herself back.

It was pointless; it would surely just lead to another long-distance argument.

So, Ding Quxiao continued scrolling down.

Then she saw this guy.

Why did he suddenly run off to Shanghai? And why did he look so carefree?

Ding Quxiao suddenly felt a bit of bitterness in her heart again.

What was going on? She was already over forty; how could she still feel this way?

No, Ding Quxiao thought again, if he's living happily, shouldn't you feel happy too?

Besides, what's wrong with being forty? Wasn't she still very beautiful?

Ding Quxiao encouraged herself; she still had more than half her life left to live stylishly! Once she divorced Li Runfa and moved to another Qiantang, she could completely forget these troubles!

Just then, her phone rang.

It was a bar promoter she knew who had jumped ship from Liu Yuan's bar to Song Xiaotian's Daybreak Nightclub.

Ding Quxiao put down her phone. She didn't know what awaited her tomorrow.

In that case, she might as well numb herself one more time tonight.

Since you all treat me like this, why should I care what others think?

Thus, that evening, Ding Quxiao made a special effort to dress up.

A seductive black outfit paired with sharp high heels.

The atmosphere at Daybreak Nightclub was exceptionally explosive tonight.

Countless men and women were venting their emotions on the dance floor.

A host at the nightclub felt an itch in his heart upon seeing Ding Quxiao's enchanting appearance.

This mature, beautiful lady's allure was simply too lethal.

However, he also knew this woman was not someone he could touch. Being able to sit beside her was already a great honor.

The host also knew clearly that he had an important mission tonight.

Although he didn't understand it, he could only carry it out.

A small white piece of paper was quietly stuck onto Ding Quxiao's clothes by this host.

Ding Quxiao was particularly high tonight, drinking glass after glass as if there were no limit.

But just as the atmosphere of the entire nightclub reached its climax...

A group of police officers suddenly rushed in.

Daybreak Bar is suspected of drug trafficking! No one is allowed to enter or leave!

Ding Quxiao looked at the chaotic scene before her. What was going on? Why did every bit of bad luck have to happen to her?

However, when two police officers walked toward her, she began to panic.

She had just come out for a drink.

She saw the host beside her being handcuffed and led away.

"Ma'am, please come back with us for investigation as well."

And so, Ding Quxiao sat in a police car for the first time in a daze, and entered the station for the first time in a daze.

Ding Quxiao felt very embarrassed; dressing like this didn't have the reserve a woman of her age should possess.

She pleaded, "Officer, I really haven't touched that stuff. Please believe me!"

The officer didn't respond, only leading her into a small meeting room.

The small meeting room was about ten square meters, with two sets of sofas and a coffee table.

Ding Quxiao was left there alone.

However, a cup of tea had actually been placed in front of her.

The tea was warm, causing the tension in her heart to fade slightly.

Finally, a dignified man in uniform walked in.

Accompanying him was a female officer.

The man took off his police cap and sat opposite Ding Quxiao.

The female officer took a camera and snapped a few photos of Ding Quxiao.

Ding Quxiao was about to speak excitedly, "Hello, officer, I am—"

But the man spoke first: "Madam Ding! Don't be excited just yet."

The female officer, wearing gloves, removed a piece of paper from Ding Quxiao's person and sealed it in a transparent bag.

The man took the camera and the sealed bag.

Then he continued, "I am the Deputy Director here, Qin Jiazheng. Please trust us police; we will definitely give you justice."

"Now, give me your communication devices. You'll have to bear with this for two days. If you need anything, just tell Officer Liu here."

"Well, I'll be heading out now."

After Qin Jiazheng finished speaking, he left with the items without waiting for Ding Quxiao's response.

Ding Quxiao then grabbed the female officer, Liu.

However, Liu herself was confused. The instructions she received were to take good care of the lady in front of her. Furthermore, no one was allowed to bail her out!

But if she wasn't allowed to be bailed out, why put her in such a good environment?

Looking at her outfit—black stockings and high heels—she didn't look like a respectable woman at all.

A night passed, and Li Runfa asked in surprise, "Where is my wife!?"

His two subordinates stared with clear and 'wise' eyes: "Ma—Madam seems to have been arrested?"

"What! Arrested?"

Last night, Madam went to Daybreak Bar and suddenly encountered a drug raid. Many people were taken away, and Madam was among them."

"Damn it, where's that bodyguard you found?"

The two subordinates replied: "Looking at his social media, he seems to be in Shanghai. But since Madam stopped going to work, we let that man go."

"Damn it, you two incompetent fools!"

But he couldn't voice his frustration to these two. With a wave of his hand, he told them to get lost!

He had promised to hand her over to Lü Guangming today; what was he to do now?

So, he made a call to a leader in the Municipal Public Security Bureau.

"Director Zhang, hello."

"I heard there was a drug raid by the Municipal Bureau yesterday?"

Director Zhang replied, "It seems so. What's wrong, Boss Li?"

"Help me look into it; my wife seems to have been caught up in it. You know, how would she dare touch that stuff! Could you put in a word for me?"

"Boss Li, this is a matter of principle; I'm afraid I can't help you. Don't worry, if there's nothing wrong, our police will let your wife go home soon."

The call was hung up. Li Runfa's face turned the color of pig liver.

It seemed he had no choice but to go to Lü Guangming again.

In Zhou Wanqing's office, Su Nange headed straight there as soon as he returned from Shanghai.

Zhou Wanqing looked at the man: "Hehe, you guy, you're really full of schemes! You dare use this method to protect someone?"

Su Nange spread his hands: "Then you tell me, what else could I do?"

"After all, we caught a major drug lord for them; they have to help me once, right? Besides, who knows if that stuff really is in those nightclubs."

Zhou Wanqing asked: "Aren't you afraid that Lü Guangming will personally come forward to bail her out?"

"After all, the head of the Municipal Bureau is a rank lower than Lü Guangming. Can he withstand the pressure?"

Su Nange crossed his arms: "It's better if he comes forward to bail her out, isn't it?"

Hearing this, Zhou Wanqing smiled knowingly: "That's right. That way, it serves the purpose of 'beating the grass to startle the snake.' The venomous snake is moving!"

Su Nange chuckled: "Not too stupid!"

Zhou Wanqing looked angry: "You!"

However, Su Nange pulled out a small gift box from his coat.

Upon seeing it, Zhou Wanqing said: "What are you doing? Bribing me in my office?"

Su Nange slowly opened the box.

"I originally wanted to buy something in Shanghai, but I found that nothing seemed as unique as the things from our Qiantang."

"This is from the Xiling Seal Art Society; it didn't cost much. Take a look."

Zhou Wanqing took it; it was a copper seal with a wooden handle.

The copper seal was engraved in clerical script.

The three characters 'Zhou Wanqing' were just like her: dignified and elegant!

Accompanying the seal was a small porcelain jar of ink paste.

They were packed together in an exquisite ebony box. The front of the box was painted with a miniature portrait of a lady.

Overall, it looked quite scholarly.

It had to be said, Zhou Wanqing really liked it.

And Su Nange added at the right moment: "You have to sign so many documents every day now. Use this; it'll be easier on your hand."

Zhou Wanqing suddenly felt her cheeks burning slightly.
