45: Chapter 45 Heart-Pounding

Giving Zhao Yang a disciplinary action now wouldn't be as simple as making him a scapegoat.

It would be a slap in the face to the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Yuan Gang was certain that once Xiong Dajiang learned Zhao Yang was being transferred to the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, he naturally wouldn't keep fixating on this matter.

He felt secretly smug; Xiong Dajiang's plan to use Zhao Yang's situation to make a fuss and manipulate the Television Station was likely going to fail.

On the other end of the line, Xiong Dajiang's face immediately darkened, looking as long as a shoe sole.

"Director Yuan, you're not messing with me, are you? Why didn't you say anything before?"

When it comes to staff transfers, leaders definitely know the news in advance.

Being transferred to the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection all of a sudden—how is that possible! There's no such thing as such a coincidence.

Yuan Gang suppressed the smile at the corners of his mouth and explained:

"It really was that sudden; he probably has some background. Besides, with something this big, how could I possibly joke with you?"

Hearing Yuan Gang's firm tone, Xiong Dajiang felt extremely displeased, but he still feigned regret:

"What a pity. It would have been great if a talent like him could have stayed! Let's put the matter of the disciplinary opinion aside for now!"

Before serving as the Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department, Xiong Dajiang was the Deputy Director of the Municipal Spiritual Civilization Office.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to create province-wide civilized units, he had raked in a lot of money from various sources.

If he offended Zhao Yang, wouldn't he just be looking for trouble for himself?

Hopefully, this kid didn't know about his visit to the Television Station and wouldn't hold a grudge because of it.

...

Zhao Yang left Old Sun's house and didn't dare return by the same route.

Instead, he left cautiously through the back gate of the dormitory area.

He wasn't sure if the Buzz-cut man would check in with his superiors and see through his identity as a fake imperial envoy.

Of the thousands of roads, safety comes first.

The moment he got into a taxi, Zhao Yang finally breathed a long sigh of relief.

He took a taxi back to the dormitory to change his clothes and then hurried off to work.

Just as he entered the office building, he ran into Lu Xuedong coming down from upstairs.

Lu Xuedong was all smiles, his thin face looking like a blooming chrysanthemum.

"Xiao Zhao, you've come at just the right time. Director Yuan is looking for you; he wants you to go to his office."

Zhao Yang had hurried to work precisely to see if the transfer order had arrived.

Seeing Lu Xuedong's expression, Zhao Yang already knew the answer.

"Alright, thank you, Director Lu."

Even though Sun Hongwei had already told him that the transfer order would arrive by the afternoon at the latest, a hint of surprise still flickered through Zhao Yang's heart.

It was actually this fast!

Although Sun Zhendong was in Donghai Province, his connections in Jianghan Province were also unusually strong.

Zhao Yang couldn't understand why Sun Hongwei remained so low-key despite having such a connection.

To the point of being framed.

Was it because of a diligent and pragmatic family tradition?

While pondering, Zhao Yang walked quickly upstairs.

He knocked on the door of the director's office, and Director Yuan's voice rang out from inside:

"Come in!"

Zhao Yang sneered inwardly; Old Yuan had changed quite quickly, even knowing to use the word "please."

Pushing the door open, Zhao Yang smiled and greeted the two people in the room:

"Director Yuan, Director Li!"

Yuan Gang and Li Hongyi looked at Zhao Yang with smiles, sizing him up from head to toe.

As if they were meeting him for the first time.

Yuan Gang handed the transfer order to Zhao Yang and smiled:

"Xiao Zhao, congratulations. Be sure to come back and visit often after you go to the province."

"That's for sure. I'll never forget how the station has nurtured me over the last few years, no matter what."

Zhao Yang chatted casually with them while looking at the transfer order.

Li Hongyi said with a smile on his face:

"Minister Xiong came by this morning wanting to discipline you over yesterday's news report, but Director Yuan shut him down."

This old fox, his flattery was perfectly timed.

Yuan Gang waved his hand at Li Hongyi and then turned to Zhao Yang:

"It's just what we as leaders should do. Xiao Zhao, you're so outstanding; we absolutely couldn't let a blemish be on your record."

"I've troubled you, leaders. I'll treat you to dinner tonight!"

While saying this, Zhao Yang's heart was as clear as a mirror.

If this transfer order hadn't arrived in time, the disciplinary decision would probably have been written by now.

Yuan Gang smiled and patted Zhao Yang's shoulder. "With your small monthly salary, one meal would wipe it out. How about this, the station will treat you; several station leaders will host a farewell dinner for you tonight."

A look of difficulty appeared on Zhao Yang's face as he gave a bitter smile:

"Director Yuan, I didn't know the transfer order would come so suddenly, and it's quite urgent. After I finish the paperwork, I have to hurry back and pack my things.

"Next time I come back and have more time, I'll definitely get together with everyone."

He spoke tactfully, but in truth, he just didn't want to have too much to do with these fair-weather people.

He had schemed and calculated for this single piece of paper.

Yet, when he actually held the transfer order, he felt a bit of reluctance.

What he couldn't let go of was the profession of being a reporter.

And... certain deeply memorable people.

When Yuan Gang mentioned the farewell dinner just now, the first image that popped into his mind was actually being with Jiang Nan.

Tongan Television Station had few staff and didn't have an Organization and Personnel Section.

All the procedures were completed in one stop at the Station Office.

After finishing the paperwork, Zhao Yang picked up his phone and made a call.

The call connected, and Jiang Nan's crisp and pleasant voice came through the receiver:

"Zhao Yang, how are things with you now?"

Her tone revealed obvious concern.

Zhao Yang didn't know what had come over him; his first call had inexplicably been to Jiang Nan.

He wanted to share the joy in his heart with her as soon as possible.

"I'm fine. Do you have any time tonight?"

Jiang Nan's tone was a bit hesitant: "I..."

Fearing she would refuse, Zhao Yang quickly said:

"I'm leaving Tongan tomorrow, so I wanted to get together with you tonight."

"Ah?!" Jiang Nan was a bit surprised, then said decisively: "You pick the place, I'll be there."

Zhao Yang wanted to say more, but found that she had already hung up.

He immediately booked a small private room at U.B.C. Coffee. After sending the room number to Jiang Nan, he happily headed to the Municipal Association for Science and Technology.

After seeing Sun Hongwei, Zhao Yang didn't hide the joy in his heart:

"Brother Hongwei, the transfer order has arrived. They want me to report to the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection tomorrow."

Sun Hongwei already knew everything and wasn't surprised.

Instead, he asked, "What do you plan to do once you're at the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection?"

Although he trusted Zhao Yang's character, he still couldn't understand what a criminal case had to do with the Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Zhao Yang knew Sun Hongwei's concerns and comforted him:

"Don't worry, Brother Hongwei. As long as the Commission for Discipline Inspection sends a special task force down, I guarantee the case will be solved as quickly as possible."

Seeing how certain he was, Sun Hongwei felt slightly more at ease:

"Don't linger here with me any longer; go back quickly and pack your things."

"Alright, Brother Hongwei. Just wait for my good news."

Returning to the dormitory, Zhao Yang sadly discovered:

After working in Tongan for three years, all his clothes for the four seasons only filled one large and one small suitcase.

It wasn't even as much as he had bought for Su Yawen in a single year.

He didn't know what he had been thinking in the past, wasting money and feelings on a woman who didn't love him.

Thinking of this, he looked forward to his meeting with Jiang Nan even more.

His heart couldn't help but race.

Would that bright and beautiful woman accept his confession?
