79: Chapter 79 Mysterious Phone Call
Knock, knock, knock!
A knock sounded at the door, neither too heavy nor too light, appearing polite and measured.
Zhao Yang sighed into Jiang Nan's ear: "Who is this? Just wait until I get my hands on him!"
Jiang Nan's earlobes turned bright red; she hurriedly stood up, smoothed her hair, and walked quickly to open the door.
Sun Hongwei stood at the doorway, holding a fruit basket in one hand and a bouquet of flowers in the other.
The door opened, and he looked at Jiang Nan with surprise.
The policewoman in front of him was tall, with fair, rosy skin, and so beautiful that one dared not look directly at her.
He immediately took half a step back to reconfirm the room number.
Jiang Nan smiled slightly at him, "You didn't go to the wrong place; Zhao Yang is inside."
Zhao Yang had already seen that it was Sun Hongwei standing at the door and quickly said: "Brother Hongwei, your timing for these flowers is quite off."
Sun Hongwei walked over quickly and placed the flowers and fruit on the cabinet.
He turned and asked: "How is it off?"
Zhao Yang didn't answer, but instead pointed at Jiang Nan: "Jiang Nan, Captain of the Technical Brigade of the Criminal Investigation Detachment, my girlfriend."
Speaking of this, he proudly lifted his chin and continued with a smile: "By bringing these, won't you make Jiang Nan think I have no romance in me? Besides, she's already seen them, so how am I supposed to re-gift them to her?"
Sun Hongwei laughed: "You really have no romance. Who gives carnations to their girlfriend?"
Jiang Nan pouted from the side and laughed: "Trying to cut corners? That's an extra penalty."
She had seen Sun Hongwei's name countless times in documents, but this was her first time meeting him in person.
With Zhao Yang's teasing, the atmosphere instantly livened up, and Jiang Nan lost the coldness she usually displayed toward strangers.
Sun Hongwei turned to Jiang Nan, his tone serious: "Thank you, Officer Jiang. I know everything. If it weren't for you collecting strong evidence at the scene, I fear I would have become a target of the crackdown by now."
Jiang Nan waved her hands repeatedly, "Brother Hongwei, you don't need to thank me; that's just what I should have done."
Zhao Yang chimed in jokingly, "Exactly, she's your younger sister-in-law, what is there to thank?"
Jiang Nan blushed and glared fiercely at Zhao Yang.
Afterward, she pulled a stool to the bedside.
"Brother Hongwei, please sit."
Sun Hongwei sat down and carefully checked Zhao Yang's injuries.
"Zhao Yang, you've already done very well. If you get yourself into trouble again, how could I ever have peace of mind?"
Zhao Yang put away his smile and shook his head firmly: "Brother Hongwei, I didn't do this entirely for you. If I don't ferret out the mastermind behind the scenes, I won't be able to get past this hurdle in my own heart."
"You must be careful!" Sun Hongwei patted his right hand, "I came this time to say goodbye."
Zhao Yang raised an eyebrow, "What's wrong? Are you angry because I haven't gone to see you since I got back?"
"How could I be?"
Sun Hongwei raised his gaze and met his eyes: "Zhao Yang, I'm leaving Tongan. To be precise, I'm leaving Jianghan Province. Next, I'm going to be the mayor of Wuping City in Nanyue Province."
Hearing this, Zhao Yang was slightly startled, then chuckled: "Congratulations, Brother Hongwei, you've become a mayor so quickly."
Sun Hongwei waved his hands repeatedly, "It's a county-level city; it's just a lateral transfer. I wanted to treat you to a meal, but I probably can't wait for you to recover and be discharged."
Zhao Yang pondered for a moment and understood the implications.
Sun Hongwei's suspicion had been cleared, and the organization was giving him an explanation.
However, the geographical span was quite large, transferring him directly from a central river-adjacent province to a developed coastal region.
If anyone said their family had no backing, Zhao Yang wouldn't believe it even if he died.
Ji Hongwen must have been truly blinded by greed to dare to make a move against him.
Sometimes, being too low-key is often not a good thing.
Zhao Yang smiled: "From now on, I'll be looking at you living the high life; that place is rolling in money."
Since Sun Hongwei was so well-arranged, Sun Zhendong surely wouldn't be doing poorly either.
Thinking of this, Zhao Yang asked: "Then Uncle Sun, he..."
Sun Hongwei glanced at Jiang Nan, who was standing nearby; he hesitated to speak, only smiling slightly.
Seeing this, Jiang Nan smiled at Sun Hongwei: "Brother Hongwei, you came all this way and I haven't even poured you a glass of water. I'll go buy some drinks."
Seeing Jiang Nan leave, Sun Hongwei lowered his voice: "It's not that I want to hide things from your girlfriend; this matter hasn't been made public yet, just keep it to yourself."
"Next step, my father might come to Jianghan Province as Governor, and two years later, he will succeed Provincial Party Secretary Tao Zhimian and take charge of Jianghan."
The news Sun Hongwei brought was more shocking than the last.
I wonder what Ji Hongwen will feel when facing such a superior leader.
Well, this is great; enemies are destined to meet. There's going to be a good show to watch.
The two chatted for a while longer, and Jiang Nan returned carrying sodas.
She opened a bottle first, "Brother Hongwei, here!"
Sun Hongwei took the soda, raised his neck, and drank half the bottle in one go.
Jiang Nan opened another bottle for Zhao Yang and handed it to him.
Sun Hongwei laughed: "Zhao Yang, you are truly 'blessed'. With such a great girlfriend, how did you find her?"
Zhao Yang smiled: "If I said I saved the galaxy in my past life, would you believe me?"
Sun Hongwei looked at him and nodded seriously: "I believe it."
Zhao Yang was secretly pleased; it seemed his performance had already left a very deep impression on the Sun father and son.
And they were all positive, good impressions.
The conversation was mostly done, and Sun Hongwei stood up: "I won't disturb you lovebirds anymore. If you have a chance to go to Wuping in the future, I'll show you around."
After seeing Sun Hongwei off, Jiang Nan sat on the edge of the bed and gently punched Zhao Yang's shoulder.
"What were you two talking about, keeping it from me?"
"Since it was kept from you, it must be confidential. You'll definitely know in the future," Zhao Yang smiled, "The head of Qicheng Group, Lai Xunmei, whom you investigated last time, what is her background exactly?"
"According to the files, she was originally just a vice president of Qicheng Group. But later investigations revealed that this woman is not simple."
Jiang Nan said while picking up an apple to peel it carefully.
Zhao Yang raised an eyebrow, "How is she not simple?"
Jiang Nan handed the peeled apple to Zhao Yang, wiped her fingers with a tissue, and then spoke slowly: "This woman is very beautiful, 36 years old, divorced and single. She was in frequent contact with Guo Mingkai before, and many calls were not during work hours; it was likely a romantic relationship."
"But now the contact has suddenly decreased, and instead, she is frequently contacting two unregistered numbers."
Zhao Yang took a bite of the apple and asked indistinctly: "Unregistered? The kind of phone cards you can buy without an ID card?"
"Yes."
Jiang Nan nodded and pulled a tissue from the bedside table to hand to him.
"These cards are very common on the market now; you can buy them at convenience stores and newsstands, and you can't trace the user at all. It's very normal for one person to use several secret numbers at the same time."
Zhao Yang's brow furrowed: "No wonder when we checked Shen Zhentao's call records before he died, we didn't get any valuable results."
"If they all use these black cards for communication, then the leads are effectively cut off."
"Not necessarily." Jiang Nan shook her head gently.
She lowered her voice: "Monitoring data from the past few days shows that one of the numbers frequently appears near the Tongan Military Sub-district compound at night."
Zhao Yang was shocked and almost sat up from the hospital bed.
Among the city-level leaders in Tongan, many whose families are out of town live in the Military Sub-district.
And the Municipal Party Committee Secretary, Ji Hongwen, is one of them.
