7: Chapter 7 I'll see what tricks they've up their sleeves!

Sun Zhendong turned around and looked at Zhao Yang, wondering what other powerful evidence he had in his hands.

Zhao Yang opened his backpack and took out the videotapes he had filmed over the past two days.

Two BetaCAM tapes and one DVCAM tape.

He placed the tapes on the coffee table and pointed to the DVCAM tape. "There's a segment of a surreptitiously recorded police conversation in here that's quite thought-provoking."

Sun Zhendong walked over, picked up the tape, and examined it from all angles, puzzled.

"There's no way to play this kind of tape at home."

Zhao Yang scratched his head awkwardly and said apologetically:

"I'm sorry, Uncle Sun. These are professional tapes used by Television Stations. I was in a bit of a hurry coming here and overlooked that."

In fact, he had already calculated that with Sun Zhendong's status, getting it played at Donghai Province Television Station would be a piece of cake.

There was no need for him to waste time converting formats.

Sure enough, Sun Zhendong asked in a deep voice, "Can this kind of tape be played at Donghai Satellite TV?"

Zhao Yang answered truthfully, "In Jianghan Province, tapes from municipal or local stations can be aired when sent to the provincial Television Station. It should be the same in Donghai Province."

Sun Zhendong nodded slightly and dialed a number on his cell phone.

"Wang Yu, get in touch with Director Zhang of Donghai Television Station. Have him prepare a room where videotapes can be played. I'm heading over now."

"Understood, Secretary. I'll arrange it immediately."

Wang Yu was Sun Zhendong's Secretary. Ten minutes after hanging up, he and the driver, Li Chao, were both waiting outside the villa.

Seeing Zhao Yang and Sun Zhendong come out side-by-side, Wang Yu was slightly taken aback, then warmly opened the car door for Sun Zhendong.

On the other side, Li Chao no longer had the arrogance he'd shown when picking up Zhao Yang.

He eagerly opened the car door for Zhao Yang and made a gesture of invitation.

Once in the car, neither Sun Zhendong nor Zhao Yang spoke.

The two tacitly avoided the Sun Hongwei case, yet they had no other topics to discuss.

In the oppressive atmosphere, the small car drove all the way into the compound of the Donghai Television Station.

Zhang Haoran, the Director of Donghai Television Station, was already waiting at the porch.

Seeing Sun Zhendong get out of the car, Zhang Haoran greeted him warmly.

"Welcome, Secretary Sun, to Donghai Satellite TV for an inspection and guidance visit. Please, come inside!"

These people were all incredibly shrewd, framing a leader's private matter in such high-sounding terms.

In 2001, it had only been three or four years since provincial television signals were first connected to satellites.

Satellite broadcasting had given wings to the radio and television industry, and those at satellite-linked stations proudly referred to their stations as 'Satellite TV' for short.

Sun Zhendong nodded slightly and stepped into the foyer.

Seeing that Sun Zhendong wasn't in high spirits, Zhang Haoran immediately understood that Sun Zhendong really was here to watch a recording.

The hastily arranged inspection items had to be temporarily set aside.

After they were settled in a small conference room, a beautiful female host from Donghai Satellite TV diligently poured tea.

Zhang Haoran whispered, "Secretary, please wait a moment. The equipment will be ready shortly."

Sun Zhendong nodded slightly to acknowledge he understood.

Afterward, Zhang Haoran began introducing Donghai Satellite TV's development strategy over the past few years and how they were innovating their programming.

In short, when accompanying a leader while waiting, one must never let the conversation die, otherwise it would be considered a slight.

Zhao Yang watched from the sidelines. He had seen many such scenes in his previous life.

Seeing it now, he still felt that there was a deep level of sophistication involved.

Ten minutes later, Zhang Haoran received a phone call and then led everyone to the adjacent reception room.

Zhao Yang glanced around and saw that playback machines for various models of videotapes had all been installed.

Good heavens, the equipment was certainly comprehensive.

When the leaders just say the word, the subordinates run themselves ragged. The technical brothers have worked hard.

Zhao Yang offered them a silent second of mourning in his heart, then nodded to Sun Zhendong to indicate that everything was ready.

Sun Zhendong reached out to Zhang Haoran. "Haoran, you have other matters to attend to. There's no need to stay here with us."

Zhang Haoran understood perfectly and immediately instructed someone to prepare more tea.

"Secretary Sun, if you need anything else, just have Secretary Wang let me know."

Wang Yu was very observant; he took the initiative to close the reception room door and stepped out.

Zhao Yang looked at the position of the monitor and pulled over a chair.

"Uncle Sun, please sit here. You'll be able to see more clearly."

He turned on the power, placed the first videotape into the deck, then turned the jog dial and began playback.

The first segment was footage of Sun Hongwei being interviewed, followed by the sound of police sirens, and then the screen went blank.

Sun Zhendong suddenly gripped the armrest, his knuckles turning white.

He wanted to see clearly exactly how his son had been taken away.

In the next scene, the office door was burst open, and Sun Hongwei was restrained by the police.

When he saw the police say at the scene of the arrest, "You are suspected of murdering your wife, Chen Xue," Sun Zhendong suddenly stood up.

"What? The victim is Xiao Xue? Why didn't you say so earlier?"

Zhao Yang turned to look at Sun Zhendong and saw that his face was flushed, his eyes filled with grief and even more rage.

Zhao Yang lowered his head slightly and apologized softly:

"I'm sorry, Uncle Sun. I didn't dare say it all at once, fearing you wouldn't be able to take it."

When he looked up, he saw Sun Zhendong staring straight at the monitor, murmuring:

"Old Chen, I'm sorry. Xiao Xue was a good child. It's a pity that the two of us, father and son, couldn't take good care of her for you..."

Zhao Yang could clearly see tears welling up in Sun Zhendong's eyes.

He said softly, "District Head Sun is already suffering the pain of losing his wife. We cannot let him suffer an injustice on top of that. That is why I am here."

These words weren't entirely to curry favor; they were also to remind Sun Zhendong that there was still a lot to be done next.

He must not have a stroke at a time like this. Old man, you have to hold on!

The television screen continued to play.

On the monitor, at Zhao Yang's request, Sun Hongwei wrote down the phone number for Manager Wang of Dongfang Electromechanical.

"Stop!" Sun Zhendong raised his hand, his gaze sharp as he stared intently at Zhao Yang.

"If I'm not mistaken, what Hongwei wrote is my cell phone number. Did you two discuss this beforehand?"

Zhao Yang's heart skipped a beat.

As expected, none of those in high positions were easy to fool.

After watching only this short segment, Sun Zhendong's question went straight to the heart of the matter.

He couldn't exactly say he was a transmigrator, could he?

Since Sun Zhendong hadn't been at the scene, he was actually easy to deceive.

However, Sun Hongwei had seemed to want to ask a similar question at the time.

If he didn't answer well, the lie he'd fabricated would be exposed the day the father and son met.

Therefore, he had to ensure that the answers the father and son received were consistent and reasonable.

Zhao Yang's mind raced. He stopped the videotape and turned to face Sun Zhendong.

"Uncle Sun, the political climate in Tongan City is not good. District Head Sun is young, talented, and far too brilliant, which makes it easy for others to be jealous of him."

"When the police were coming upstairs, I vaguely heard someone ask 'Where is Sun Hongwei?' At that moment, I guessed that the police must be coming for District Head Sun."

Sun Zhendong nodded slightly, neither accepting nor rejecting the answer.

In his view, a frame-up of this magnitude was not as simple as mere jealousy.

He had his own thoughts, but naturally, there were things he couldn't say to Zhao Yang.

Sun Zhendong quickly regained his composure and calmed down, his tone turning bone-chillingly cold:

"Continue playing. I want to see exactly what other tricks they've played!"
