153: fast and Furious

In the Colchester United locker room, Paul Lambert was drawing the second half's tactical arrangements on the blackboard.

Chalk flew in his hand, leaving several dense defensive lines.

"Keep it up!"

Lambert's voice was filled with excitement.

"We've proven we're just as good as them!"

The players sat in a semicircle, each face beaming with confident smiles.

Midfield maestro Izzet wiped sweat from his forehead.

"Their passing is indeed precise, but we have an advantage in physical confrontation."

Center-forward Pratt stretched his shoulders.

"In the second half, we'll continue to use our physicality to suppress their defenders."

Goalkeeper Gerken leaned against the wall, relishing his crucial save from earlier.

Sigurdsson's long-range shot had plenty of power, but the angle was still manageable.

Lambert put away the chalk and turned to face his players.

"Lads, victory is within reach!"

"They've run out of tricks!"

The players high-fived each other, their morale soaring.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the away team's locker room was completely different.

Old John stood in front of the tactics board, his expression as calm as still water.

He had no impassioned speech, nor any anxious instructions.

"Lads, you played very well in the first half."

His voice was low and powerful.

"We adapted to the opponent's rhythm and created chances."

Vardy sat in the corner, replaying that one-on-one opportunity in his mind.

Gerken's timing for coming out was excellent.

But next time he gets such an opportunity, he won't miss it.

Walker checked his boots, the studs making a slight scraping sound on the floor.

He needed to make more forward runs in the second half.

The opposing left-back, Heath, had an advantage in physical confrontation, but his speed was clearly not as good as his own.

Old John walked to the tactics board and drew a few concise lines.

"Remember the boss's instructions."

"Be patient, and start to pick up the pace after the 60th minute."

The players nodded in response.

They all remembered the tactical points Lin Feng emphasized before the game.

Changing the rhythm was the key to this match.

Henderson stood up and stretched his leg muscles.

He could feel that his stamina was still abundant.

And the opposing midfielder Izzet's running was noticeably slower than at the start of the first half.

Sigurdsson closed his eyes, silently rehearsing passing routes in his mind.

In the second half, he needed to look for space behind Vardy more often.

Duggan's positioning was indeed excellent, but his turning speed was a weakness.

Old John looked at his watch.

"Time's up, lads."

"Let's go finish what we started."

The players filed out of the locker room.

Their uniform footsteps echoed in the corridor.

Lin Feng sat in the box, his coffee long since cold.

His gaze never left every detail on the field.

Colchester United's performance in the first half was indeed excellent.

But they made a fatal mistake—over-expending energy.

Frequent physical confrontations and high-intensity defensive pressing made it difficult for their players to maintain the same level in the second half.

And Hartlepool United's players were prepared precisely for this moment.

He took out his phone and sent Old John a short message.

"Execute as planned."

In the player's tunnel, the two teams' players stood side by side again.

Colchester United's captain was still joking with his teammates, while Vardy just lowered his head, wiped the tip of his nose with the back of his hand, and stared at the exit of the player's tunnel.

The Colchester United players' faces were filled with complacency.

The Hartlepool United players, however, appeared more focused.

Vardy gently stroked the team emblem on his chest.

There lay his desire for victory, and also his trust in the boss.

The referee's whistle blew.

"Gentlemen, the second half begins!"

The players surged back onto the field.

The roar from the stands instantly reached its peak.

Home fans waved blue and white scarves, cheering for their team.

They firmly believed victory was at hand.

In the away stand, two thousand Hartlepool fans also shouted themselves hoarse.

Although outnumbered, their momentum was not weak at all.

The second half kickoff whistle blew.

Hartlepool United kicked off first.

Commentator Taylor's exclamation rang out: "The whistle just blew! Hartlepool United didn't pass back! Long ball! They've immediately picked up the pace!"

Vardy laid the ball back to Sigurdsson.

The Icelander didn't leisurely observe the situation as he had in the first half.

Instead, he hit a long pass, directly finding Walker, who was making a high-speed run down the right wing.

This sudden change in tempo caught Colchester United's defense off guard.

Heath hadn't even reacted when Walker had already received the ball and started his run.

The England youngster showed his exceptional explosiveness.

An instant acceleration allowed him to shake off the opposing left-back.

"Walker breaks through!"

Commentator Taylor's voice suddenly rose.

"Hartlepool United has shown a completely different rhythm right from the start of the second half!"

Walker sprinted down the right wing at high speed, every step full of explosive power.

Heath desperately chased, but the distance grew wider and wider.

Duggan in the center could only choose to cover the wing.

But in doing so, a gap appeared in the penalty area defense.

Walker delivered a cross near the byline.

The ball traced a perfect arc, flying accurately towards the far post in the penalty area.

Vardy and Maloney simultaneously made high-speed runs forward.

Vardy attracted Pratt's attention at the near post.

Maloney, meanwhile, appeared silently at the far post.

Goalkeeper Gerken's attention was completely drawn to Vardy.

By the time he noticed Maloney's presence, it was already too late.

The Northern Irish winger easily slotted the ball home!

1-0!

The away stand at Victoria Park instantly erupted!

Maloney excitedly ran towards the corner flag, embracing his teammates tightly.

"Goal!"

"Hartlepool United takes the lead just 5 minutes into the second half!"

Commentator Gray's voice was filled with shock.

"Blitzkrieg! The switch from slow to fast took only one second! A perfect team goal!"

The Colchester United players stood stunned.

They had completely not anticipated such a drastic tactical adjustment from their opponent.

The team that patiently controlled possession in the first half suddenly transformed into a sharp blade of fast-paced attack.

Lambert roared furiously on the sidelines.

He gestured for his players to strengthen the central defense.

But it was too late.

Hartlepool United's change in rhythm had completely disrupted their defensive system.

The match restarted.

Colchester United tried to stabilize the situation through possession.

But Hartlepool United's high press made it difficult for them to organize effective attacks.

Opposing midfielder Izzet was already putting his hands on his hips and panting, while Henderson's running coverage seemed even greater than in the first half.

Every tackle was full of power, every pass was precise.

In the 62nd minute, another opportunity arose.

Tinkler intercepted Izzet's pass in midfield.

He didn't trap the ball, instead hitting a long pass directly into the attacking third.

The ball sailed over Colchester United's defense, landing accurately at Vardy's feet.

As Duggan turned, Vardy's back was already a distant speck.

He shrugged off the chasing Duggan, creating a superb one-on-one opportunity.

Goalkeeper Gerken again chose to come out.

But this time, Vardy gave him no chance.

Facing the onrushing goalkeeper, Vardy deftly chipped the ball over Gerken's head.

The ball traced a beautiful arc in the air, slowly dropping into the empty net.

2-0!

The Hartlepool fans in the stands went completely wild.

Vardy ran towards the away stand, celebrating with both hands pointing to the sky.

This was his first goal of the match, and a crucial one that sealed the team's victory.

"Vardy!"

"It's Vardy again!"

Commentator Taylor's voice was almost hoarse.

"This is the power of speed! This is the power of youth!"

The Colchester United players completely collapsed.

Two consecutive goals conceded had shattered their confidence.

Even worse, they couldn't find a way to deal with Hartlepool United's changes in rhythm.

Lambert made a substitution on the sidelines.

He replaced the exhausted Heath with a young winger.

But this adjustment came too late.

The initiative of the game was already completely in Hartlepool United's hands.

Lin Feng nodded slightly in the box.

Everything was developing as he expected.

Colchester United's over-expenditure in the first half meant they couldn't keep up with the pace changes in the second half.

And Hartlepool United players' stamina reserves were the guarantee of their explosion at critical moments.

The match continued.

Hartlepool United did not relax their vigilance despite a two-goal lead.

They continued to maintain high-intensity offensive and defensive transitions.

In the 75th minute, Sigurdsson's exquisite pass in midfield almost created a hat-trick opportunity for Vardy.

In the 80th minute, Tom Ince, who came on as a substitute, hit Colchester United's post with a long-range shot.

Every attack made the home fans' hearts leap into their throats.

The final whistle blew.

2-0.

Hartlepool United defeated Colchester United away from home, securing their tenth consecutive League victory!

The players hugged each other on the field in celebration.

The significance of this victory was not just in the number of ten consecutive wins.

More importantly, they proved their adaptability and explosiveness when facing strong teams.

In the away stands, the fans sang their team anthem loudly.

Their voices echoed throughout Colchester.

In the post-match mixed zone, reporters surrounded several key players.

Vardy had just finished an interview with Sky Sports and was about to leave.

At that moment, a reporter from "News of the World" suddenly blocked his path.

"Jamie, there are rumors that Arsenal's Mr. Wenger is very interested in you and plans to make an offer in the winter."

As soon as the reporter finished speaking, the surrounding camera lenses immediately focused on Vardy.

"What are your thoughts on this?"

Vardy was startled for a moment.

Arsenal? Wenger?

These names were both strange and distant to him.

But he quickly regained his composure, a familiar mischievous smile appearing on his face.

"Wenger?"

Vardy pretended to ponder.

"Who is he?"

"I only listen to our boss."

The surrounding reporters chuckled softly.

"Right now, I only want to score more goals for Hartlepool and win the championship."

Vardy's answer was watertight, demonstrating loyalty to the club while skillfully avoiding sensitive topics.

"As for anything else, I don't care."

With that, he pushed past the reporter and strode towards the player's tunnel.

But this brief conversation had already been recorded by all the media present.

Tomorrow's newspaper headlines were bound to stir up new waves.
