174: The Lion Unburdened (Part 1)

The whistle for the second half blew.

Hartlepool United's players stepped back onto the pitch, and a fundamental change was visible in everyone's eyes.

Vardy no longer frequently looked back at the bench, but instead focused intently on Crewe's defensive line.

Henderson's passes once again became precise and powerful, each ball delivered with a clear purpose.

Sigurdsson's movement in midfield became more active; he constantly searched for openings, creating opportunities for his teammates.

Lin Feng noticed this change from the executive box.

The players' body language was completely different.

The stiffness and tension of the first half had vanished without a trace, replaced by a familiar fluidity.

“This is the Hartlepool United I know.”

Sophie Green quickly recorded the changes on the field from the press box.

She could keenly sense the team's shift in temperament, a change that even spread to the fans in the stands.

In the 48th minute, Hartlepool United launched their first threatening attack of the second half.

Walker received a pass on the right wing and, instead of rushing a cross, patiently observed the situation in the penalty area.

Vardy, understanding implicitly, ran towards the near post, drawing away a center-back.

Maloney cleverly pulled back to the far post, creating a perfect overlapping run.

Walker's cross accurately found Maloney at the far post, but his header went just wide of the upright.

“Good try!”

A round of enthusiastic applause erupted from the stands.

Although there was no goal, the quality of this attack gave everyone hope.

Crewe's coach, Dario Gradi, frowned on the sidelines.

He could feel the subtle shift in the game's dynamics.

Hartlepool United's passing became more fluid, and their movement was more rational.

Most importantly, they had rediscovered that formidable rhythm.

In the 55th minute, the turning point finally arrived.

Henderson intercepted the ball in midfield and quickly distributed it to Robson on the left wing.

Robson chose not to cross from the byline but instead passed the ball back to the onrushing Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson took a touch to adjust and then, from 25 yards outside the box, unleashed a sudden long-range shot.

The ball, with a strong spin, flew towards the top right corner of the goal.

Crewe's goalkeeper judged it correctly and made a valiant save.

However, the shot was too powerful, and it slipped from his grasp.

Vardy had already anticipated this possibility.

He started sprinting forward the moment the goalkeeper made the save.

The rebound landed perfectly in his path.

Facing an open goal, Vardy showed no hesitation, easily slotting the ball into the net.

“Goal! Goal!”

Martin Tyler's voice instantly rose by an octave.

“Vardy! Jamie Vardy has equalized for Hartlepool United!”

“1-1! They are back on level terms!”

Victoria Park erupted instantly.

Over twenty thousand fans rose to their feet simultaneously, their thunderous cheers echoing through the sky.

Vardy ran towards the corner flag, arms outstretched, letting out a roar to the heavens.

His teammates rushed towards him, surrounding him.

This goal was more than just an equalizer; it represented the team rediscovering its confidence and rhythm.

Lin Feng applauded softly in the executive box.

His expression remained calm, but a satisfied gleam sparkled in his eyes.

This was the moment he had been waiting for—the team's resilience and ability to adjust in adversity.

After equalizing, Hartlepool United's attack became even more ferocious.

They regained control of the game's rhythm, pinning Crewe back into their own half.

In the 62nd minute, Snodgrass's breakthrough on the right wing earned the team a corner kick.

Sigurdsson took the corner, and the ball accurately found Shawcross in the penalty area.

Shawcross's header was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper, but the ball still bounced dangerously within the area.

In the ensuing scramble, Henderson's follow-up shot was blocked by a defender's body.

“Hartlepool United's attack is becoming more and more relentless!”

“Crewe's goal is in grave danger!”

The singing in the stands resumed.

“We are the champions, we are the champions...”

The fans' voices merged into a massive force, pushing the team forward.

Crewe's defense began to show cracks under this sustained pressure.

Their players' energy was severely depleted, and their range of movement visibly shrank.

More importantly, the psychological pressure led to more errors in their passing and coordination.

In the 75th minute, another opportunity arose.

Tinkler delivered a precise long pass from midfield, finding Walker, who was surging forward on the right wing.

Walker took a touch and, without hesitation, directly crossed the ball.

The ball traced a perfect arc, flying towards the near post of the penalty area.

Vardy leaped high, but instead of heading directly for goal, he cleverly flicked the ball on.

The ball changed direction, flying towards the far post.

Maloney was already lurking there, and facing the incoming ball, he didn't stop to control it but volleyed it directly.

The ball, with immense power, flew towards the bottom left corner of the goal.

Crewe's goalkeeper reacted quickly, making a desperate save.

However, the angle of the shot was too acute, and its speed was too great.

The goalkeeper's fingertips touched the ball, but he couldn't change its trajectory.

The sound of the ball hitting the net was crisp and sweet.

“Goal! Goal! Goal!”

“Shaun Maloney! A volley into the net!”

“2-1! Hartlepool United have taken the lead!”

The entire stadium exploded instantly.

Fans wildly waved scarves and flags, their songs echoing to the heavens.

Maloney ran towards the stands, pointing his hands to the sky.

His teammates swarmed him, lifting him high.

This goal came at such a crucial and timely moment.

It not only put the team back in the lead but, more importantly, it made everyone believe that history was about to be made.

Lin Feng stood up in the executive box.

A slight smile finally appeared on his face.

This ability to counterattack in adversity was precisely the quality a championship team must possess.

Crewe's players looked somewhat dejected.

Their excellent performance in the first half had given everyone hope, but now, reality once again proved the difference in strength.

Dario Gradi made substitutions on the sidelines, attempting to strengthen the attack.

But time was running out, and Hartlepool United clearly wouldn't give them many opportunities.

The match entered its final ten minutes.

Hartlepool United began to control the tempo; they were no longer eager to attack but instead ran down the clock through passing and possession.

This mature game management ability made Lin Feng very satisfied.

In the 88th minute, Crewe earned a free-kick opportunity in the attacking third.

This was their last hope of equalizing.
