This notice was like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, instantly stirring up massive waves within the Red Alert Base!
Lujiang Base Center Square:
Under the announcement screen, a dense crowd quickly gathered. People who had come early to collect their daily basic rations stopped lining up and craned their necks, greedily reading every word on the screen, fearing they might miss a detail.
"My god... B-level rations! Family gets C-level!!" A middle-aged man in washed-out work clothes, holding the rice he had just collected, had eyes as wide as saucers, his voice cracking with excitement. "This... this treatment is better than the officers in other bases in Huaguo, right?"
Nearby, an elderly man with graying hair and broken gold-rimmed glasses pointed with trembling fingers at the "Life Sciences and Medicine" section, his cloudy eyes bursting with incredible light. "Virology... Immunology... They... they are researching serum? And crystal core energy conversion? My god! Has our base's technology reached this level?" He muttered to himself, as if seeing the hope of the lost fire of civilization being reignited.
"Mom! Mom! Look! Electronic information! Chip design! I... my PhD was in this!" A young man, who looked twenty-seven or twenty-eight with a haggard face but bright eyes, excitedly shook the arm of his equally shocked mother. "My knowledge... my knowledge is still useful!"
His mother, a weather-beaten woman, saw the long-lost glow in her son's eyes and teared up, nodding incessantly. "Useful! Useful! Go! Go apply! Find all your certificates, awards, and papers!"
Residential Area:
The news spread like wildfire to every corner.
In a small but tidy dormitory, a middle-aged woman who was carefully wiping a few thick professional books (her only remaining "wealth") stood up abruptly upon hearing the news brought by her roommate, ignoring the books that fell to the floor with a thud. "Materials science... composite materials..." She chewed on these words repeatedly, her hands clenched tightly in excitement, her knuckles turning white. "My research... my project... maybe... maybe it can continue?" A near-fanatical fire ignited in her eyes, the glow of a researcher's dedication being reignited.
A tall, thin man who was once the CTO of a large internet company looked at the notice, his body trembling slightly. "Network security... AI algorithms..." he whispered, a sharp and confident expression appearing on his long-depressed face for the first time. "Finally... finally don't have to be a waste of space anymore!" He jumped up, rushed back to the residential area, and started rummaging through his things to find the hidden USB drives and certificates.
Administrative Center entrance:
Less than two hours after the announcement was released, a winding queue had already formed in front of the "Talent Recruitment Office" on the third floor of the Administrative Center. The people in line were of different ages and dressed differently, but all wore similar expressions of nervousness, anticipation, and the excitement of regaining their value. They clutched or carefully guarded the "proofs" of their past glory—some were worn diplomas, degree certificates, yellowing copies of patent certificates, old mobile phones or tablets containing papers and project reports, and some were even just a few pages of notes filled with formulas and concepts. These things, which they regarded as more important than life, had been carried with them when they transferred with the troops, hoping for this day when they could be used again.
A middle-aged man in an ill-fitting old suit, his hair combed meticulously, kept adjusting his collar and checking himself in the reflective glass door, trying to recapture some of his former scholarly demeanor, muttering his research fields and achievements to himself.
Staff members were nervously maintaining order at the door, repeating: "Please have your materials ready, register in order! Don't rush! The expert group will review them one by one!"
In the office, several administrative staff temporarily drafted to assist were busy, registering, classifying, and performing preliminary screening of materials. Looking at the mountain of certificates and documents, a young female clerk couldn't help but gasp to her colleague: "My god... I really didn't expect our base to be full of hidden talent! Are... are all the elites from every industry before the apocalypse here?"
Her colleague, typing information rapidly without looking up, sighed: "The Commander's move... is brilliant! With this kind of treatment, who wouldn't be tempted?"
Command Center:
Jiang Xin stood in front of the observation window in the Command Center, overlooking the crowd gathered in the square below and the long queue at the entrance of the Administrative Center. He held a cup of tea, the swirling steam blurring his deep eyes, but the faint, satisfied arc of control on the corner of his mouth was clearly visible.
Adjutant Zhang Long stood behind him, looking at the unprecedented lively scene, and couldn't help but laugh: "Commander, now that you've issued this notice, the base is truly 'boiling' over. I bet those scholars can't sit still now."
Jiang Xin took a sip of tea, his gaze seeming to pierce through the scene before him to see a further future: "crystal cores are power; technology is the foundation. Serum is just the first step. Gather the wisdom of these people and use it well; only then will Red Alert truly have the capital to stand in this apocalypse, and even reshape the order. Every talent discovered is a spark for us to fight against this dark apocalypse." His voice was calm, yet contained unquestionable determination. "Notify Hu Jingming at the Research Center; the expert group's review must be strict, fair, and efficient. We want real talent, people who can take on the heavy responsibility! The treatment is only for those who deserve it!"
"Yes! Sir!" Zhang Long replied solemnly.
The entire Red Alert Base was boiling because of this recruitment order. Silent knowledge was reawakened. Countless eyes, filled with longing for the future and a reaffirmation of their own value, turned toward that Research Center that symbolized wisdom and the future.
