118: Chapter 118 The True Meaning of Meditation

Chapter 118: The True Meaning of Meditation

On a pedestrian street in Jiangdong District, there was a bookstore with quite a bourgeois aesthetic.

The walls were lined with a dazzling array of books, and there was a workstation with a coffee grinder and coffee machine.

Quite a few people were sitting around ordering drinks, flipping through books, and passing the time, making the place look more like a café opened inside a bookstore.

By the window, a woman with a mature charm frowned slightly, her beautiful legs wrapped in lead-gray suit trousers crossed, her hips taut and rounded.

Her slender fingers, white as jade, pinched a small bone-china spoon, constantly stirring the coffee cup, while her eyes kept staring at the street scene outside the window.

The simple and capable women's suit still struggled to conceal her plump, graceful, and perfect figure.

Tied around her neck was a pure white silk scarf hanging over her chest, which not only added a bit of elegant temperament to her, but also covered up that overly proud curve.

Feeling the gazes occasionally drifting over from around her, Lin Chuqiao's lips curved slightly, inevitably feeling secretly smug, yet also somewhat helpless.

Possessing an angel's face and a devil's figure, coupled with her awakened special ability, she had always been very confident.

As long as she glanced into the crowd from afar, she could easily capture unsuspecting prey to do her bidding.

Especially when it came to infatuating those stinky men until they were totally disoriented and obedient to every word.

When she turned and left, they would instantly forget all their memories.

However, the fellow she met recently made her feel powerless for the first time, making it hard to see through his thoughts.

Thinking of this, Lin Chuqiao lowered her head to look at a sheet of drawing paper placed on the table.

Staring intently at the figure of the young man studying in the library depicted on it, she was somewhat lost in thought.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of a figure who had just walked through the door.

The dating target had finally arrived.

She saw that the other party had a tall, straight figure, handsome facial features, and deep, mysterious eyes.

Wearing gold-rimmed glasses made him look even more refined, as if he were harmless to humans and animals.

"Glasses?"

Lin Chuqiao's expression froze slightly.

Then she put away the drawing, feignedly picked up a collection of prose poems, and acted as if she were savoring the wonderful articles inside.

Fang Cheng asked the waiter and scanned the seats surrounded by bookshelves.

He walked straight towards the familiar graceful figure and took the initiative to greet her:

"Young Miss Lin, is there something you wanted me for?"

Lin Chuqiao raised her eyes, then closed the book, and smiled, gesturing with her hand for him to sit down:

"Can't I look for you for a chat when there's nothing wrong? We are at least considered acquaintances and friends."

Afterward, she generously asked Fang Cheng what he wanted to drink, offering to treat him.

Fang Cheng waved his hand, indicating that he wasn't used to drinking coffee.

The two exchanged a few pleasantries and took their respective seats.

Lin Chuqiao carefully observed Fang Cheng's eyes and asked quite curiously:

"How did you think of wearing glasses? I almost didn't recognize you just now."

"I've been reading too much lately, so getting a pair of glasses can slightly protect my eyesight."

Fang Cheng pushed his frame and casually explained.

"Oh."

Lin Chuqiao smiled and nodded, not continuing to ask further.

Then.

Two people both wearing glasses sat facing each other like this, and the atmosphere felt a bit strange.

After all, neither knew much about the other's situation, ultimately lacking some common topics.

Seeming to sense this, Lin Chuqiao took the initiative to speak up and asked with concern:

"How has your life been recently? Have you encountered any tricky difficulties that need help?"

Hearing this, Fang Cheng glanced at her with some surprise.

After thinking about it, he also bluntly said:

"I have indeed encountered a rather headache-inducing problem recently."

Lin Chuqiao immediately became interested and looked at him with full expectation.

Fang Cheng paused slightly in tone and continued:

"Hearing your suggestion last time, I prepared to self-study Meditation to cultivate my character, but I encountered some hurdles that I've never been able to achieve a Breakthrough."

"Just Meditation?"

A look of disappointment flashed across Lin Chuqiao's eyes.

Then she said in a calm tone:

"You can specifically describe the problem you encountered; perhaps I can offer some advice."

Fang Cheng guessed that she should also have some involvement and research in this area.

So he roughly explained the experiences and feelings he generated during the Meditation process.

Lin Chuqiao's willow eyebrows furrowed slightly. After pondering for a moment, she replied:

"The Focus of Meditation practice lies in maintaining habits, clarifying goals, and overcoming distractions in the heart."

"Error-free, first-released content available to read!"

"Broken down in detail, there are eight steps: Precepts, Diligence, Posture, Regulation of Breath, Mind-Focusing, Concentrating Spirit, Entering Concentration, and Samadhi, which are also the traditional Eight Limbs."

"According to your description, you can already achieve the step of mind-focusing, but there is a misunderstanding in the step of concentrating spirit."

Speaking of this, Lin Chuqiao's tone was slightly solemn as she said:

"I want to ask you a few questions first. What do you think Precepts means, and what do mind-focusing and concentrating spirit mean?"

Hearing the question, Fang Cheng pondered for a moment, then replied:

"Precepts should be using a method similar to monks practicing ascetic precepts to suppress distracting thoughts and desires generated in the heart."

"As for mind-focusing and concentrating spirit, it is maintaining Focus, clearing distractions, and after eliminating external interference, letting consciousness be in an extremely self-aware state."

Hearing this, Lin Chuqiao smiled and shook her head:

"What you said is just the concept of Meditation understood by ordinary people."

"The true meaning of Precepts is not self-suppression, nor is it repressing negative thoughts, but using appropriate methods to assist and guide oneself onto the right track."

"As the first step of Meditation practice, its primary role is to establish a correct direction for oneself, avoiding meaningless mental internal friction."

"Because if the starting direction is wrong, no matter how hard you try afterward, it is a waste of your own energy and a futile effort."

"Although many people can indeed smoothly reach the level of tranquility through various different methods, the problems existing at the start will always plague them, making it impossible to cross the hurdle of concentration."

"Therefore, if you want to truly achieve deep concentration, the key still lies in 'target' and 'guidance'."

"Target and guidance?"

Hearing Lin Chuqiao's explanation, Fang Cheng's doubts in his heart became even more numerous.

"A clear target, and a specific method of guidance."

Lin Chuqiao nodded and continued:

"These two points seem very simple, but they are exceptionally difficult to do in practice, because the so-called 'target' is not a certain thing you want to achieve, but rather..."

Seeming to think of something, her words came to an abrupt halt.

Then she flipped out a slightly worn business card from her wallet and handed it to Fang Cheng:

"Some things are hard to describe clearly with words. If you really want to go further in Meditation practice, you can go to this place to take a look in person, and by then you should understand a lot."

"I also once accidentally strayed into it and stayed for a period of time, thus changing my fixed prejudices about this world."

Fang Cheng took the business card and looked closely at it.

Written on it in bold characters were— "Truth and Meditation Fellowship".

"Thank you."

Fang Cheng suddenly felt that this woman was simply his good teacher and helpful friend.

He couldn't help having the urge to learn more about her background and enhance their relationship.

At this moment, Lin Chuqiao mysteriously added:

"Giving you a piece of advice in advance, when participating in this 'Zhenxiang Society', remember to also wear glasses and don't expose your true identity, oh."

Hearing these meaningful words and looking at her quirky and mischievous gaze,

Fang Cheng couldn't help temporarily suppressing the good impression that had just popped up.
