283: Chapter 283 Racing Speed, Not the Human Body Shape
"What the Hell is that thing?"
Looking at the rapidly approaching white figure, A-Li was equally in disbelief, subconsciously licking his dry lips.
"There was definitely something wrong with that taxi just now—it was coming right at us!"
Officer Zhou Liang's expression was grim. After confirming the situation, he quickly snapped back:
"No matter what that thing is, we have to find a way to shake it off right now."
Saying that, he slammed his foot all the way down on the gas pedal.
"Hold on tight!"
Officer Zhou Liang growled softly. Although warning bells were ringing loudly in his mind, he forced himself to stay calm, his Focus intensely centered on the steering wheel.
The engine of the black Wuling sedan let out an angry roar. The modified powertrain unleashed its full potential as the car surged forward, its speed skyrocketing further in an attempt to widen the distance once more.
A-Li swayed with the inertia of the acceleration, gripping the grab handle tightly with both hands, turning his head to stare intently out the rear window.
That white figure was like a maggot attached to bone, pursuing them relentlessly.
At this moment, instead of falling behind, it was actually closing the gap at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The pale mask and the two points of crimson eyes beneath it—appearing as if burning with fire—grew clearer and clearer in view, exuding a chilling aura of terror that seeped deep into their bones.
"I saw what he looks like..."
A-Li swallowed hard, his voice somewhat dry:
"That speed and physical capability... there's no way a normal Aberrant could pull that off. Could it be a monster that escaped from some Hell space?"
Turning his head back, he urged his companion:
"Zhou Liang, hurry up! That guy is catching up—step on it!"
"Shut up, I've already floored it!"
Officer Zhou Liang shouted back, fine beads of cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. The corner of his eye constantly tracked the expanding white nightmare in the rearview mirror.
The gas pedal beneath his foot was pressed flat against the floorboard. The engine screeched under the unbearable strain, and the speedometer needle had pinned itself at the maximum limit.
Yet even so, in this high-speed pursuit, the distance between them continued to steadily shrink.
The severe violent bumps and vibrations woke up Xu Hao, who was unconscious in the back seat.
He struggled to open his eyes. His entire body ached as if falling apart, his hands and feet tightly bound by restraint straps, rendering him unable to move.
"Fuck you assholes! If you've got the balls, untie me and fight one-on-one..."
Xu Hao lurched up, gathering all his strength to curse.
But he was met with the impatient glare of the jacket-wearing man in the passenger seat.
"So noisy!"
The high-voltage stun baton was pulled out again. Electric arcs flashed as it unmercifully slammed into Xu Hao's abdomen once more.
"Ugh, aaagh—"
Xu Hao let out a scream of agony, his body twitching and spasming violently like a fish thrown onto dry land.
Just before his consciousness was swallowed by darkness, his blurred vision caught sight of the horrifying white figure sprinting behind the car at superhuman speed!
"Damn... what kind of monster is that?!"
With that shock in mind, Xu Hao passed out once again.
"Dammit, he really knows how to make a fuss!"
A-Li spat, ignoring Xu Hao who had gone completely limp.
He set down the stun baton, quickly grabbed his pistol, rolled down the window, and leaned half his body out.
He aimed the barrel at the white phantom approaching behind them, which was almost glued to the rear of the car.
"Die, monster!"
A-Li cursed under his breath, held his breath, and tried his best to steady his aim amidst the high speed and violent bumping, decisively firing a succession of bursts.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Muzzle flashes flickered rapidly in the dark. Dense rounds whistled through the air, tearing toward the relentless pursuer to stop the monster from approaching.
However, what happened next sent a chill rising from the soles of A-Li's feet, despite his steeled nerves.
He almost doubted his own eyes and his years of marksmanship training.
That white figure's speed was insanely fast, and its movements were incredibly agile to an absurd degree!
Like an intangible streak of white lightning, it wove rapidly through the whistling crisscross of gunfire, changing directions and leaving behind blurred afterimages!
While sprinting at such high speeds, the opponent was actually able to overcome inertia, executing millimeter-precise dodge maneuvers that narrowly avoided every fatal trajectory.
The bullets either struck empty space, kicking up sparks on the road, or whistled harmlessly through his blurred white afterimages, failing to hinder him in the slightest.
A-Li even felt his gun-holding hand trembling slightly from extreme shock and pressure.
The white figure moved elusively like a true phantom, dancing wildly through the deadly hail of bullets while steadily closing the gap at an astounding speed.
Fifty meters! Thirty meters! Ten meters! Five meters!
The distance to the rear of the black sedan was now within arm's reach; one could almost feel the cold, stone-like texture of the mask.
Just as A-Li emptied his magazine and prepared to pull back inside to reload...
...he discovered with shock—
The white figure's speed suddenly surged again, reaching a whole new, suffocating Realm!
The muscles in his legs erupted with formidable force, as if detonating the asphalt beneath his feet with a heavy boom!
Crash—
He launched into the sky like a fired rocket, tracing an insanely swift arc in a manner that defied all common physics, precisely clearing the trunk of the sedan.
Then, he landed heavily right on top of the fast-moving car's roof!
Thud—
A heavy, heart-pounding thud echoed loudly.
The roof of the car caved in massively, as if struck by a meteorite.
The entire vehicle sagged from the sudden immense weight, the tires nearly bursting under the pressure.
Inside the car, both Officer Zhou Liang and A-Li jolted fiercely.
"He's up top! He's on the roof!"
A-Li warned repeatedly, an unmistakable trace of terror finally breaking into his voice.
Officer Zhou Liang remained silent, his adrenaline surging as he wildly jerked the steering wheel.
He attempted to shake off the terrifying presence on the roof through violent s-curves and sharp turns.
The tires shrieked ear-splittingly as the car swayed wildly across the highway.
A-Li reacted swiftly, slapping a fresh, full magazine into his pistol as fast as he could.
Without hesitation, he raised the gun and fired blindly into the noticeably dented and deformed roof directly above his head.
He tried to hit the monster standing above them.
Bang, bang, bang! Bang, bang, bang!
Bullets perforated the roof's sheet metal with heavy thuds, sending sparks flying in every direction.
Scalding shell casings clattered into the cabin, filling the cramped space with the smell of gunpowder.
In this moment of extreme chaos inside and outside the car, two blinding high beams suddenly flared around a sharp turn on the road ahead.
A heavy truck loaded with cargo, looking like a moving steel fortress, occupied more than half the road and roared directly toward them.
Both vehicles were moving at high speeds, and the distance was rapidly shrinking! It was unavoidable!
"Watch out!! Incoming truck—"
Officer Zhou Liang's pupils contracted as he let out a roar.
In that split second, he unleashed all his potential, jerking the steering wheel hard to the right with all his strength and Driving skill.
The black sedan produced a deathly squeal of rubber against asphalt as it swerved at a perilous angle, barely brushing past the side of the massive truck and narrowly escaping a head-on collision.
The trucker's terrified curses and blaring horn were instantly left behind.
However, the crisis was far from over!
To avoid the fatal crash, Officer Zhou Liang had turned the wheel too hard.
The fast-moving sedan spun completely out of control, as if violently kicked by a giant. It plowed straight off the road, crashed through the guardrail, and plunged headlong down a steep embankment.
The car briefly airborne, swaying and tilting wildly in mid-air.
The immense inertia and centrifugal force tumbled the three occupants inside like clothes in a washing machine, spinning their worlds out of control.
Bang!!
Finally, with a deafening crash and a violent tremor, the black sedan slammed heavily into an overgrown, muddy ditch at the bottom of the slope.
The hood buried deep in the soft mud, the body tilted, and warning lights flashed crazily.
After a dying sputter from the engine, it cut out completely.
The inside of the car was a total mess, filled with the pungent reek of soil, weeds, and motor oil.
Officer Zhou Liang and A-Li were left dizzy, sore all over, with blood even trickling down their arms.
Yet, relying on their tough physical endurance and willpower, they struggled to regain control of their bodies as fast as possible.
Subconsciously looking outside, it was pitch black, with only the dim headlights weakly illuminating the tall weeds and mud.
That white monster... was surely thrown off, right?
With such a thrilling dodge and crash just now, there was no way he could still...
Just as a flicker of wishful thinking crossed their strained nerves...
The next second—
BOOM!!!!
An explosive blast—even more horrifying and penetrating than the previous crash—suddenly echoed from directly above their heads.
It sounded like metal being violently torn apart, right next to them!
Under their instantly widened eyes filled with terror and despair—
A fist wrapped in suffocating, terrifying force smashed straight through the severely deformed, bullet-riddled roof.
Then, the fist opened into a palm, five fingers curving like steel hooks, grabbing the edge of the breach and ripping outward with brute force!
Tear—
The violently torn gap expanded rapidly, uttering a piercing screech of metal deformation.
Innumerable sharp fragments rained down, raining over both of them alongside dust and glass shards.
The chilling night wind and the scent of death poured in simultaneously.
Through the jagged, irregular hole, Officer Zhou Liang and A-Li stiffly raised their heads, looking straight into the downward gaze of the "monster" outside—
A cold, pale stone-statue mask devoid of expression.
And through the eyes of the mask, two glowing points of ominous red light, as if burning with the fires of Hell.
An indescribable fear swept over them like an icy tide, instantly submerging their final shreds of wishful thinking.
The shadow of death materialized in that instant, completely blanketing the cramped, ruined, and suffocating cabin!
...
Two minutes later, at the crash site beneath the highway embankment.
The roof of the black Wuling sedan was completely gone, the twisted metal tossed aside like a lid forcibly ripped off.
Fang Cheng waded through the messy weeds, mud splashing onto his trouser legs.
A pale stone mask covered his face, his bald head reflecting a cold sheen under the occasional sweep of passing headlights.
Officer Zhou Liang and A-Li were roughly dumped into the mud. The excruciating pain of broken bones left their faces as pale as paper, dripping with cold sweat.
They didn't resist because they knew full well that the terrifying strength of the bald Masked Man before them was not something they could match.
But their tightly sealed lips and stubborn glares showed they would never yield easily either.
Next to them, Xu Hao lay like a ragdoll, still unconscious.
Fang Cheng squatted down, checking Xu Hao's carotid artery and breathing, confirming the guy was merely knocked out and his life was not in immediate danger.
Standing up, his gaze pinned the two jacketed men like tangible icicles.
"What on earth are you trying to do by taking him?"
Fang Cheng's voice had been altered, sounding low and raspy, making his age impossible to discern.
Officer Zhou Liang gritted his teeth, endured the pain, and turned his head away, refusing to answer.
A-Li closed his eyes as well, adopting an attitude of passive non-cooperation.
"Where is your lair?"
Fang Cheng asked again, his tone devoid of emotion.
The two remained silent.
"What person or matter has your organization been investigating in Dongdu recently?"
Silence settled around them, answered only by a rustling sound.
It was the sound of the night wind rustling through the weeds.
Looking at the two uncooperative guys, a cold smirk curled beneath Fang Cheng's mask:
"It seems you need a few extra 'communication' techniques to learn how to cooperate."
With that, he cracked his knuckles with loud pops, preparing to give these tough nuts a memorable lesson.
An invisible pressure instantly spread through the air.
Just as he picked out a chick whose body was trembling slightly, he caught sight of something dropping from the man's torn jacket pocket.
Fang Cheng's gaze landed on it, startling him slightly.
He bent down to pick it up—a dark blue hard card printed with an emblem and text.
Seeing this, Officer Zhou Liang and A-Li's faces changed simultaneously, showing anxiety.
Fang Cheng looked at the text on the badge.
Beneath a golden shield-and-blade emblem was a striking line of bold text:
[Special Affairs Investigation Team, Dongdu City Investigation Squad, Second-Class Officer Zhou Liang].
Beneath that was an embossed seal and an ID number.
"Special Affairs Investigation Team..."
Fang Cheng murmured the name, his fingers pausing briefly as a flash of astonishment passed through his eyes.
He had originally guessed that the Noah Organization planned Xu Hao's abduction.
So he tracked them down, aiming to gather information and ideally wipe them out in one swoop.
He hadn't expected to run into this legendary, mysterious official agency once again.
At this thought, Fang Cheng abruptly raised his head and stared straight at the two:
"You aren't from Noah?"
At these words, it was Officer Zhou Liang and A-Li's turn to be utterly stunned.
This guy wearing a mask chasing them down, with strength so terrifying it was inhuman, was actually asking if they were Noah's people?
What on earth was going on? Internal strife within the Noah Organization? Or... something else?
For a moment, their brains couldn't wrap around the situation.
Fang Cheng was also somewhat speechless. Who could have guessed a prestigious official agency handled business like thieves?
Both sides fell into a strange silence, staring at each other in confusion.
The cold night wind swept across the muddy ditch, stirring a chilling shudder.
Just then, a calm and chilly voice drifted over with the wind into everyone's ears:
"Friend, shouldn't you explain why you attacked my colleagues?"
The voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable majesty and penetrating force.
Officer Zhou Liang and A-Li jerked their heads up, their faces instantly bursting with surviving-a-disaster ecstasy:
"Officer Gao!"
Fang Cheng also abruptly looked up, shooting his gaze toward the source of the sound.
Toward the highway, the darkness peeled back to both sides like a heavy curtain under an invisible, mighty aura.
A silhouette stood silently atop the slope like a sculpture, overlooking everything down in the mud.
Even as just a silhouette, it radiated a heavy, oppressive force like a collapsing mountain.
The twisted yet power-filled lines and the abruptly jutting angles silently proclaimed an extraordinary fact.
That was definitely not an outline a human body should have!
