193: The Xiao-Wang Duo (Part 3)

The Prince Kangs Residence was still brightly lit at night.

Illuminated by various lighting tools imported from the Eastern Domain, the Residence displayed a unique beauty. Two heads quietly peered out from the green bushes lining the roadside.

“Old Wang, look quickly! These lights can actually purify the quality of Spiritual Qi!”

“Good heavens, every single lamp has this function. How much money must this cost?”

Xiao Sheng was considered a man of experience and usually spent money lavishly, but this level of extravagance was new to him.

Many Cultivators, after reaching a certain Realm, would hire Cultivators skilled in the Law of Space or the Law of Time to construct Small Worlds, opening up their own Blessed Lands for cultivation.

Those who actively modified their residences and undertook large-scale renovations were usually either wealthy or noble.

Prince Kangs Residence was already built atop a Spiritual Vein and was close to the Capital, meaning the Spiritual Vein carried some of the Dragon Vein's Qi; thus, Prince Kangs Residence was inherently a Blessed Land.

Besides being luxury items, these lamps, despite having the function of purifying Spiritual Qi, seemed superfluous in a place already rich in Spiritual Qi.

The fact that the owner still purchased these flashy, impractical items was purely a waste of money.

“This guy used to oversee the country; he definitely didn't hold back on squeezing the common people dry.”

“I heard he indulges in pleasure all day and associates with all sorts of strange individuals and talented people, so this extravagance isn't surprising.”

Wang Yao was also dazzled by these things, but since he wasn't wealthy to begin with, he could only tell that the lights were expensive, but couldn't imagine their exact worth.

After lamenting Prince Kang's corruption, the two continued to crawl forward in another direction.

They wore small Magic Treasures privately sponsored by Li Wenbo and continued to sneak through the Residence.

The Magic Treasure looked similar to a Bluetooth Earphone; when worn in the ear, it allowed for remote communication and could generate a special Force Field to blur their appearance.

At the same time, it could project a Divine Sense Detection Radar in front of their vision, allowing them to evade in time if high-intensity Divine Sense approached.

Because Li Wenbo had hastily crafted this item, it was a bit rudimentary.

Although this Magic Treasure wasn't very refined, the residences of capable Cultivators usually employed methods to block Divine Sense.

In an environment where Divine Sense was restricted, they could use this Magic Treasure to achieve quick communication and concealment, making it difficult for other Cultivators to detect them.

This was why they continuously advanced stealthily.

Along the way, they encountered all sorts of strange and talented individuals—those with unique races or profound cultivation bases—they met several from time to time.

It wasn't until the afternoon that the two finally moved from the Storage Area to this Garden, which was still some distance from the Central Area.

Moreover, if it weren't for the help of this item, they might have been discovered long ago.

Just as the two were worrying about how to cross the Garden and enter the Central Area, two figures—one tall and one short—suddenly appeared, scaring them into quickly retreating back into the bushes.

“Brother Zhao, you must follow me closely.”

“Even having a token in the Residence might not be enough; it's safer if I lead the way.”

A short Black-Robed Man, wearing a Special Mask and less than half a meter tall, was rubbing against the leg of another Black-Robed Man who was at least 1.8 meters tall.

Judging by the voice, it sounded like a girl.

“Old Wang, look at that little squirt. What is it, being so short?”

Because someone was approaching, they switched to using the Communicator to converse.

“The aura smells like the Yao Race. The Life Qi is stronger than that of a person with similar cultivation, and it doesn't seem young, so it's not like a child.”

“That physique, that vitality, and being not young—it should be some kind of small Yao Race member.”

Xiao Sheng, hiding in another patch of grass, felt that Wang Yao's ability was very impressive, even though he had listened to explanations all afternoon.

This was a minor ability Wang Yao had comprehended after that unpleasant banquet, when his cultivation Broke Through to the Foundation Establishment Late Stage.

This ability allowed him to more clearly perceive the aura and state of Life Qi.

“Old Wang, what about the other one?”

“The other one should be human. His cultivation isn't high, probably around Foundation Establishment Early Stage. He seems injured, smells faintly of blood, and his Life Qi is somewhat weakened.”

“Old Wang, then we... hehe.” Xiao Sheng revealed a malicious smile.

Although their progress was slow, they had gathered quite a bit of information during this time.

At least they knew that many of these strange and talented individuals had Waist Tokens, which allowed them to enter and exit important venues; otherwise, they would trigger the Formation Alarm.

Although they had the means provided by Li Wenbo, they likely wouldn't run into trouble, but being safer was always better.

So they decided to return to their old profession: finding two unlucky individuals and acquiring two Waist Tokens.

Unfortunately, before this, either the targets had too many people or their cultivation was too high, so they hadn't found a suitable target to attack. They were even planning to just force their way in.

But now, an injured Foundation Establishment Cultivator and a small Yao with low cultivation were delivered right to their doorstep.

Not acting would be a disservice to this opportunity!

Although Wang Yao was tempted, he became extremely cautious when exercising caution, so he decided to observe a bit longer.

“Don't rush. Follow them slowly, and act before they leave the Garden. We can listen to what they're saying; maybe we'll hear some clues.”

“Anyway, there's no one in the Garden right now. We can act anytime.”

Xiao Sheng thought that made sense, suppressed the urge to strike, and quietly followed them.

“Oh, right, Brother Zhao, are you still in pain?”

“Our Lianxing Pavilion has various subsidies.”

“Although you are Contracted Labor, as long as I go back and tell my Great-Grandfather to arrange for you to become a permanent employee, you can also enjoy Treatment Subsidies.”

“Minor injury, it's fine.”

The Black-Robed Man's tone was cold, but the little Yao remained very attentive.

“Brother Zhao, don't be angry.”

“It's all the fault of that bad guy Zhou Yan! Is having high cultivation amazing? Does having high cultivation mean you can bully people like this?”

“He didn't give you any chance to show off, and he beat you up so badly.”

“But with your skills, Brother Zhao, you'll definitely have a chance to shine again.”

“Once we go to the Residence and collect the reward, we'll go to the Truth Cult to terminate your Labor Contract.”

“A Cultivator as gifted as you has a brighter future if you return to our Lianxing Pavilion sooner.”

“Brother Zhao, let me tell you, my Great-Grandfather treats talented people wonderfully. He always tells me to be courteous to the wise and condescending to the humble. Once you go, you definitely...”

“Watch out!”

The man seemed to sense something, grabbed the little Yao's back collar, and violently dodged to the left.

Immediately after, a man wearing Night-clothes and with a blurred face missed with a punch, and the resulting Qi Wave from the punch made the target stagger.

Just as he was about to shout for help, he heard the sound of rushing wind behind his head. He hastily turned back, but it was too late to dodge; he only saw a Wooden Sword Sheath coming closer, striking heavily against his head.

He blacked out and passed out before he could even make a sound. The short person beside him had been stunned even earlier by a Divine Sense Shockwave.

The two checked the radar again, confirmed no powerful Divine Sense was approaching nearby, quickly cleared the traces of combat and residual Qi, stuffed the short one into the tall one's arms, and, one lifting the head and the other the feet, quickly hid in the nearby bushes.

The two people, who considered themselves upright, were inexplicably skilled at this kind of sneak attack.

After the surroundings calmed down, the two began counting their Spoils of War next to the cover.

“I thought we might hear some news. Turns out they are Outsourced Personnel from the Lianxing Pavilion.”

“It seems they really are short on people. If we had known they were so desperate, wouldn't it have been better if we just pretended to be outsourced staff and blended in?”

Xiao Sheng pulled out two tokens and identity documents, both marked as Contracted Labor.

“Stop dreaming. How easy is it to sneak into the Lianxing Pavilion? It's one of the Six Demonic Sects, after all.”

“By the time you figure out how to sneak in, you won't need to worry about the Residence anymore; you can just prepare for the Final Decisive Battle.”

“That's true.” Xiao Sheng conceded the point, and while starting to strip the two people of their clothes, he asked.

“Which one are you going to impersonate this time?”

Wang Yao's hand stopped mid-air, and he stared at Xiao Sheng.

Although Xiao Sheng couldn't clearly see the other person's blurred face, he sensed the other party seemed very surprised.

“Wha... what's wrong?”

Wang Yao was silent for a moment, pointed to the height of the short person next to them, and then gestured to his own head.

“This little thing is about the size of my head. Can you transform into that too?”

Hearing that this was the issue, Xiao Sheng immediately sighed in relief, patted his chest, and said.

“You scared me to death! I thought something serious had happened.”

“How could a Talisman be so inconvenient!”
