461: Chapter 461 Zheng Dafu's End
"Bad luck!"
Zhou Yan's face fell as he parkoured through the ruins of the Inner Island. Behind him was a massive wave of black monsters, relentlessly pursuing him.
Initially, he had tried to save a few people, but soon the tide of monsters swarmed toward him, and he could barely protect himself.
It wasn't that Zhou Yan hadn't thought about killing them.
But every single one of them was like the monster the purple-robed Cultivator had turned into; even after being tossed into the wind and shredded for a long time, they could only be temporarily suppressed, not killed.
These monsters might have had varying levels of cultivation, but their combat style and durability were identical.
As soon as they latched on, they would start biting and tearing like zombies, attempting to inject mucus or pierce their tentacles into the opponent's body.
Since Zhou Yan was in game mode, they naturally couldn't break his defense, making these attacks useless.
However, he still had a health bar. If he were completely enveloped by that pile of things, his health would eventually drain until he died.
That would be the most despairing way to die.
What was even more despairing was that these guys were everywhere now, leaving him no place to stand and attempt to communicate with the river of time.
If this continued, god knows what would happen next.
"This is never-ending!"
"I have a temper too!"
Finally, after being chased all the way, Zhou Yan chose to erupt.
Zhou Yan activated all his Power of Law, converting it into the Law of Wind, and used the most Heaven-Defying ability in Feng Xu's skill set.
Divine Ability: Unstained Dust!
Unstained Dust was one of Feng Xu's famous signature moves.
Wind is both flow and direction.
By purifying the surrounding wind field into pure directionality wrapped around the body, no external evil could invade.
Seeing Zhou Yan stop, the massive swarm of monsters chasing him converged even more violently into a mass, even trampling each other just to get closer to him.
But when they drew near and extended their tentacles to touch him, the tentacles that had been rapidly lashing out suddenly took sharp turns, striking the companions beside them.
Not just the tentacles; the monsters that had tried to close in and had already pressed against him were also heavily repelled. The more force they used, the more obvious the damage from the rebound.
After just one round of attacks, the front row of monsters was cleared. Most of them fell into the sea covered in wounds, only to be quickly pinned down by other trampling monsters, unable to get back up.
Seeing this, Zhou Yan's eyes sharpened, and he charged directly into the monster swarm.
He seemed to have transformed into a giant blower, blowing through an ant colony; countless monsters flew into the sky and then fell into the sea.
He continued until he had blown away every single monster on the ruins. Before they could rise again, he turned and ran toward the rear.
Just kidding. Putting on a show was enough; there was no need to fight unkillable monsters. He didn't even have time to use the Law of Consumption to cook a dish, so running was the better option.
Unstained Dust was indeed strong. While active, it could divert all incoming attacks and even return them to their source.
But it consumed too much Power of Law. If not for Zhou Yan's vast reserves, he wouldn't have been able to withstand such consumption.
Just as Zhou Yan was about to break through the encirclement, his pupils constricted. He quickly crossed his arms in front of his chest, blocking a sudden incoming strike.
"Interesting. Kid, is your body something special?"
"Why don't you just hand it over to me?"
The dust in front of him cleared, but the person within that dust made Zhou Yan gasp.
"Zheng Dafu?"
No, it was still Lord Canglan!
[Lord Canglan-10086]
[Realm: Mid Void Refinement Stage (Old Method)]
Zhou Yan was surprised to see that the newcomer was Zheng Dafu, but then he noticed the panel still displayed Lord Canglan, not Zheng Dafu himself.
This meant he had also fallen victim. But how could this be? Weren't they on the same side?
"Oh? You know him."
The Lord Canglan occupying Zheng Dafu's body seemed different from the other monsters, as if he had his own consciousness. He was sizing Zhou Yan up, his eyes filled with greed.
"So, are you an undercover agent, or someone from the Dao Sect?"
"Forget it, why bother with so much nonsense? You're going to die anyway."
"If you're an undercover agent, consider it dying for the sake of the Yao Race. If you're from the Dao Sect, then your death is well-deserved."
Lord Canglan didn't say another word. His body instantly sprouted countless tentacles that lashed out across the sky, each one wrapped in pale pink Power of Law.
Zhou Yan didn't retreat but advanced instead, filling his body with the Law of Wind.
Unstained Dust was deployed again, meeting the swarm of tentacles.
Screech—!
The tentacles collided with Unstained Dust. The pink tentacles flickered, actually managing to briefly neutralize the Law of Wind.
But it was only for an instant.
Soon, the attack was repelled, and the opponent had to use even more power to resist.
The two sides fought while moving back and forth, neither able to break through the other.
"Is this all you've got?"
Lord Canglan sneered. While the tentacle offensive didn't slow down, he had actually laid a trap in secret.
The earth beneath Zhou Yan's feet suddenly loosened, and a pair of hands covered in black keratin reached out.
But Zhou Yan had already noticed the issue below. He jumped away and simultaneously fired a wind bullet into the ground, grinding the rocks beneath his feet into dust.
However, things went beyond Zhou Yan's expectations.
Those two hands still firmly gripped his ankles, as if he had been pulled toward them out of thin air.
"Crap, it's a Divine Ability!"
Then, black monsters began to pour out of the ground, attempting to wrap around Zhou Yan to prevent him from leaving while Unstained Dust was active.
Damn it.
Zhou Yan gave a low growl and thrust his hands out to both sides.
The Law of Wind was unleashed at full power. Positive and negative flows collided, generating a powerful force.
As the power continued to pour in, the massive repulsive force intensified, causing the swarm of monsters that had been enveloping Zhou Yan to explode instantly.
But similarly, because of the high intensity of power consumption, Unstained Dust could no longer be maintained.
In that very instant, Lord Canglan's figure vanished into thin air.
Zhou Yan's pupils shrank.
A rift silently cracked open in the space behind him—it was Zheng Dafu's spatial Divine Ability.
There was no time to turn around.
Lord Canglan's hand had already reached out of the rift, fingers hooked like talons, aiming straight for the back of Zhou Yan's neck.
"Brother Ao, run!"
A roar rang out.
Zheng Dafu's face momentarily broke free from Lord Canglan's hideous visage. The hand that was supposed to grab Zhou Yan suddenly changed direction and shoved him hard.
Zhou Yan stumbled forward. He looked back to see Zheng Dafu clutching his head, his face alternating between agony and clarity.
"Quick... go."
Lord Canglan's features covered him once more, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
He gave a low growl, and as if tearing something away from his own body, he hurled a distorted ball of pale pink light at Zhou Yan.
"No one is leaving!"
The light ball exploded. Zhou Yan was sent flying by the shockwave, crashing into the ruins.
By the time he crawled back up, Lord Canglan was gone, leaving only Zheng Dafu slumped powerlessly on the ground.
The subsequent black monsters surged forward like a tide, instantly submerging him.
Zhou Yan clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. He activated Unstained Dust again, charged into the monster swarm, and scooped him out.
However, at this point, Zheng Dafu was somewhat broken. The Power of Law throughout his body had dissipated, and his body was tainted to various degrees.
Without the support of that eerie power, he seemed unable to hold on any longer.
Zheng Dafu slightly opened his eyes. Looking at Zhou Yan, who was carrying him on his back to escape, his vision was somewhat blurred.
He could be heard vaguely murmuring.
"I'm sorry... Brother Ao, it seems the plan has completely failed."
"The Demon Chancellor... has gone mad... don't worry about me, just run."
"I'm so sorry... I couldn't be of much help."
"My life as an undercover agent really was a failure... I didn't accomplish anything my whole life, and hardly anyone even knows I was undercover."
"Brother Ao... see you in the next life."
Zhou Yan's brow twitched. He gritted his teeth and said,
"We're brothers, right? Since we're brothers, you're considered Family. So, do you consider me your Family?"
Zheng Dafu's consciousness was already hazy. What he hadn't told Zhou Yan was that his Soul had actually been tainted by Lord Canglan; otherwise, his Divine Ability wouldn't have been usable by someone else.
But he still used his last breath to say,
"I suppose so."
[Ding! Detectable potential Family member 'Zheng Dafu' found. Recruit?]
After the recruitment was complete, Zhou Yan breathed a sigh of relief. He finally stuffed Zheng Dafu's body into his backpack and continued to flee forward.
"To be an undercover agent as unlucky as you... you'd have been better off like your nephew, having your cultivation base crippled and going offline."
