297: Chaos unique to the demonic path
"Welcome to the Pasture Area!"
"Why did you say that twice?"
"Because important things must be said three times."
"But since you don't like it, I won't say it the last time."
As the car drove into the urban area, the bob-haired woman's speed also slowed.
"Alright, Immortal Master, we've arrived at our destination."
Mo Ran looked at everything before him, feeling incredibly unfamiliar.
This was clearly the same city, yet it gave off two different feelings.
Grace City usually had only tranquility at night, with few people going out, but here it was completely the opposite.
Bright neon lights illuminated the night as if it were daytime.
People of all sorts walked through the streets, like a bustling market.
Most of them were dressed strangely, with tattoos covering their bodies being a minor detail; many had very little flesh left on their bodies, almost entirely covered in metal.
If Mo Ran hadn't still felt the vitality within them, he would have thought they were just ugly robots.
Strange smells wafted through the air, people cursed and shoved each other frequently.
Just as Mo Ran was looking around, a conflict suddenly erupted.
Following the sounds of fighting, Mo Ran saw a young man punch an old woman to the ground.
Mo Ran was about to step forward but was pulled back by the bob-haired woman.
The woman didn't speak, merely gestured for him to continue watching.
At first, he was a little puzzled, but then he witnessed a startling scene.
At this moment, no one around stepped forward to help; they all stood with their arms crossed, looking on as if watching a show.
"You little brat, eat a thunderbolt from this old lady!"
The fallen old woman suddenly yelled, and two hatches opened on her chest, firing two small missiles.
Neither the young man nor the people nearby expected this move.
Someone yelled "Get down!" and an explosion roared.
The young man was blasted away, and those who didn't manage to dodge were also affected.
"Pah! You damn bastard, if this old lady doesn't show her power, you think I'm a sick cat, huh!" the old woman cursed as she got up. "Don't go around asking? When I, Mother Thunder, was out on the streets, your wild dad was still peeing in the mud!"
"You want to mess with me? I'm telling you, back in the day, I..."
"Click."
Before she could finish, an energy lock restrained her.
She turned her head and saw a scruffy, disheveled, brown-haired middle-aged man in a trench coat.
The man waved his hand behind him, and two people who looked like Inspectors came over and escorted the old woman away.
"Alright, old lady, you can tell your stories from back in the day slowly at the station," the middle-aged man said, then waved his hand around. "Stop looking, everyone, disperse."
"Tch—"
The crowd scoffed, then gradually dispersed.
Someone picked up a part from their feet before leaving; it was likely something that had fallen off a passerby who was blasted earlier, looking like a metal ear.
The old woman cursed all the way until a young Inspector gave her a stun baton, and she peacefully fell asleep.
As the crowd dispersed, the middle-aged man also noticed Mo Ran and the bob-haired woman.
Mo Ran's attire, which was completely out of place with his surroundings, and his clear eyes, clearly indicated he was an outsider.
The middle-aged man sighed and walked over.
"Yelena, what are you up to?" His tone was casual, yet carried a sense of pressure. "You'd better explain where you 'kidnapped' this outsider from."
"Otherwise... you wouldn't want to try the prison food lately."
"After all, the head chef is on vacation, and now his apprentice is cooking, you know."
Mo Ran could feel that this person was at the Foundation Establishment Initial Stage.
He had an Eastern Domain face, but he didn't rely on equipment or weapons, achieving Foundation Establishment purely through his own cultivation, which was quite rare.
Aside from the security captain he had met at Grace Group, Mo Ran hadn't encountered many Eastern Domain people like this.
"Oh, Inspector, don't badmouth me in front of a client like that," Yelena raised her hands in a gesture of surrender, her face full of indifference.
Seeing the atmosphere was off, Mo Ran took the initiative to explain.
"Young Miss Yelena was invited by me to help, and I myself requested to come to the Pasture Area."
This indeed caught the middle-aged man's attention.
He scrutinized Mo Ran, his dead fish eyes now showing a hint of looking at an idiot.
"Gediao, that's my name."
"You can also call me Inspector Ge."
"Ah? Alright, Inspector Ge. My name is Mo Ran."
Hearing Mo Ran's reply, the look of seeing an idiot in Gediao's eyes grew even stronger.
"Mr. Mo, by the rules, people like you should report and make an appointment with the Inspectorate before entering the Pasture Area."
"And the person next to you, strictly speaking, is 'smuggling' you in."
"Hey, don't talk nonsense!" Yelena quickly interrupted. "I was just about to take him to register."
"Aren't you clear about your department's efficiency yourself?"
Gediao shrugged and pointed at Yelena, speaking to Mo Ran.
"See? This woman is good at cutting corners and full of lies."
"If you don't want to be completely exploited, you'd better be careful."
"I'll pretend I didn't see anything this time. Remember to go and register," he didn't bother to meddle further. Since Mo Ran said it was voluntary, his duty to warn was fulfilled.
He casually lit a Spirit Cigarette, smoking it as he walked towards the Inspectorate's hovercar.
"If anything happens, remember to report to the Inspectorate."
"Although we might not necessarily handle it, someone like you... probably isn't short on money."
"So our department might pay a little more attention to you than to the locals."
Watching Gediao's retreating figure, Mo Ran was a bit confused. He had only been here for less than a quarter of an hour, yet he had already encountered so many things. However, all of this seemed very common to the locals.
Whether it was "Mother Thunder" who casually threw bombs, or the rough and unruly Inspector Ge, it all indicated that the Pasture Area was indeed not simple.
Thinking of this, Mo Ran's gaze towards Yelena changed.
Yelena awkwardly scratched her face.
"Going through the normal process costs money and time; it's most convenient to just come and make up the registration."
"Plus, I have someone in the department, so I can get a 5% discount, only 190 star coins."
Mo Ran's gaze towards her still carried vigilance, but he didn't intend to delve deeper.
Money was not an issue for Mo Ran.
In the Eastern Domain, the exchange rate between star coins and Spirit Stones was 100:1. Not counting the Spirit Stones he brought, his small shop alone earned tens of thousands of star coins monthly.
But he indeed lacked time, and Yelena had indirectly saved him a little time, although he could have skipped these procedures directly using Wilde's business card.
However, according to Qing Xuan's instructions, he should try to use it sparingly and wait until things stabilized before making a big move.
"This time, I'll let it slide."
"But if you still plan to scheme against me, you should know the methods of cultivators."
Seeing that Mo Ran was no longer pursuing the matter, Yelena took out a capsule-shaped item, pressed it, and a motorcycle appeared between them.
She then used another capsule to put away her car.
"Get on, Mr. Mo."
"In the Pasture Area, two wheels are more convenient than four."
She had intended to tease Mo Ran, as he seemed like a simple young man, and she was good at dealing with such people.
But to her surprise, Mo Ran didn't ask further or hesitate; he simply got on the motorcycle, wrapped his arms around her waist, and urged her to set off.
Seeing that the other party showed no sign of panic, Yelena was also baffled.
Did I misjudge him? Is this a hidden Master of romance?
In reality, it was not so.
Mo Ran simply didn't view her as the opposite sex, and this applied to most women.
On one hand, his thought process was different; on the other, it stemmed from his Master's teachings.
They were Loose Cultivators who lived by the sword, and they had to be extra vigilant when out and about, so women, children, and the elderly were always on their list of things to be wary of.
Although Mo Ran would show more tolerance and goodwill towards these vulnerable groups, it was not out of respect for the old and love for the young, or pity for the fair sex, but rather compassion for the weak in his heart.
Yelena's plan fell through, so she had no choice but to get serious about her final payment.
She stopped being playful and teasing, first taking Mo Ran to complete his registration, and then acting as a tour guide, introducing him to the various districts and functions of the Pasture Area.
