115: Chapter 115 Why are there no internet cafes?
When Wild Dog Cheng Yu woke up, he was once again inside the Hive City detention center; this place seemed to have become some sort of spawn point for him.
After multiple purges, the quality of the Security Officer Cheng Yus had significantly improved; they even gave the heat-stroked Wild Dog Cheng Yu some pills and applied cooling oil to him.
"So, who exactly kidnapped whom?" The clone in charge of the interrogation was still that same one who dozed off while on duty.
"We kidnapped them." For some reason, the Centaur Nun voluntarily took the blame for this.
"Sigh, actually, this is all a misunderstanding." On the screen of the drowsy Cheng Yu's dark Turbid phone was a local amnesty decree specially signed by His Majesty the Emperor. It granted amnesty to all individuals involved in any general security incidents that occurred within the empire during the "unfortunate misunderstanding" period. As for the victims, insurance companies would compensate them first, and the imperial treasury would cover any shortfall.
Wild Dog Cheng Yu's heatstroke had not yet fully subsided, and seeing that fat had already started to grow on his belly, he let out a long, lamenting sigh:
"I am truly a failure."
"Don't say that, the Lord of Pleasure will forgive you." The Centaur Nun was really acting like a nun at this moment.
"You're doing even worse than I am; how do you have the nerve to comfort me?"
The Centaur Nun was left speechless by this remark.
A group of life's losers were at a loss in the Hive City detention center. Eventually, even the Security Forces staff felt that since this bunch had nothing to confess, they might as well leave early to avoid getting in the way.
The group was driven out onto the street, but they didn't even have a place to stay. Just then, the entire Hive City ventilation system began to cycle, and a blast of hot air blew over, almost knocking Wild Dog Cheng Yu over again.
Looking at the brightly lit Hive City night market before him, and the men and women coming and going on the Mid-Hive streets, Wild Dog Cheng Yu suddenly gave a start. He didn't fall down—hey, he stood back up.
"I suddenly remembered. I always felt that something was missing in the Hive City, but I could never recall what it was. Today, I finally thought of it. Sigh, how did I never realize that there are no internet cafes in the Hive City!"
Wild Dog Cheng Yu pointed excitedly at the Hive City streets. Because Cheng Yu's original body was a transmigrator, all his clones naturally recreated everything they had seen in their past lives; there was coffee in the cafes, and the goose legs in the braised food shops were real goose legs.
But for some reason, no one had recreated internet cafes. It might be because the dark Turbid phone spread so quickly that computers never appeared in the society of the Cheng Yu Empire; phones appeared directly. Everyone used them because they were small, exquisite, and convenient, so they never considered enlarging the phones to play games or watch movies.
The Centaur Nun didn't know what an internet cafe was. A few clones nearby explained and gestured, and she barely managed to understand it as a chess and card room with electronic screens.
"Can this make money?" the Slaanesh Nuns were very skeptical. In an era where almost everyone had a phone, would anyone really pay to use someone else's phone just because the screen was extra large? Wasn't that ridiculous?
"Do you have hot springs in the Slaanesh Court?"
"Of course we do. Only angels with a certain status can go there." The Slaanesh Nun couldn't help but proudly puff out her chest, even though it seemed to have nothing to do with her at all.
"Everyone can take a bath at home, so why would anyone specifically go to soak in a hot spring? Of course, it's for the atmosphere!"
Wild Dog Cheng Yu was very excited to start a business. Of course, he wasn't stupid enough to go to the Hive City Bank to borrow those high-interest loans, but instead contacted the Hive City Patent Office, preparing to first register the concept of a "phone internet cafe," and then slowly find investors. He had many idle personnel under his command, so he could just count them as operating shareholders.
...
"Rising at dawn, handling ten thousand matters."
Today, Main Body did not have his usual graceful detachment; instead, he sat on the Throne of Thorns with his hands clasped together like Commander Gendo, "My dear ministers, what is to be done? What is to be done?"
"Reporting to Your Majesty, your humble servant believes that Slaanesh's power is great. Since they have invited us, we cannot refuse to go, but we cannot all go." Ivankov stepped out and said.
"Oh?" Main Body became interested. "What is your plan?"
"Your Majesty can first send a high-ranking official to the Slaanesh Court to discuss the details of the visit and reception. If the negotiations do not go well, there is naturally no need for Your Majesty's precious self to risk going. If the negotiations go smoothly, Your Majesty can go then, which can also shorten the trip and avoid complications."
"Hmm..." Main Body was noncommittal. "Then which minister is willing to pull chestnuts from the fire for me?"
Main Body was actually just asking casually; for such an important task, he would definitely send his trusted clone.
"Your servant is willing to go!" A clone with a full head of gray-white hair stepped out. Cheng Yu didn't recognize who this was for a moment. In public, it wasn't convenient to directly possess the other party to check their memories, as most outsiders still thought these clones were completely independent entities.
"My apologies, Minister, I truly don't recognize who you are."
"Reporting to Your Majesty, your servant is the Governor of Zhao Zhen Planet, formerly the consort of Countess Dukaria."
Cheng Yu's pupils shook. "It's actually you? How did you age so quickly? Did you practice some kind of Warp magic?"
"In reply to Your Majesty, your servant has not awakened any psychic talents; it is just overwork from household matters."
Main Body really couldn't help himself. Through shared consciousness, he checked the other party's memories and discovered that this wasn't just overwork; this was working himself toward an early grave. "Your loyalty, Minister, is clear to the heavens. My heart is greatly comforted. How about this: when you return triumphantly, I will undergo physical modification by the Adeptus Mechanicus together with you. You and I, monarch and subject, will become a model of appreciation throughout the ages."
Main Body's words had two meanings. First, he agreed to let the other party form a delegation to go to the Slaanesh Court to scout the path. Second, he announced to the court officials that he was preparing to undergo immortality modification. This could shift the focus of those conspiracies away from his sons and back onto himself; after all, as long as he, the Emperor, did not die, it didn't matter much how many of his sons they plotted against.
"Your servant thanks Your Majesty for your great grace." Consort Cheng Yu breathed a long sigh of relief. He had finally obtained a real assignment. He didn't have to go home after court today. This diplomatic mission was of great importance; it wouldn't be excessive for this imperial envoy to take a month to select personnel, would it? A month to study and inspect at the Slaanesh Court wouldn't be excessive, right? And another month to report, summarize, and give lectures upon returning wouldn't be excessive either, right?
With three months passing like this, his hair might just turn from white back to black, extending his life by another span.
