96: Chapter 96 Old man, I've put up with you for a long time!
Knife Cheng easily found Deadly Living Monkey, who was picking up cigarette butts to smoke in a pile of trash. It was honestly impossible not to find him, as the stench on him could be smelled from two miles away.
"Senior Living Monkey, the boss has a mission for you." Knife Cheng was relatively polite to such a powerful person.
"Ahem, he who eats the food of the master must be loyal to the master. However... I still hope you call me by my full nickname: Deadly Living Monkey!"
"Alright, Senior Deadly Living Monkey, let's go. If we're late, we'll miss the number two elevator of the Hive City."
The so-called Hive City elevator wasn't one of those small iron boxes, but rather resembled a larger space like a train carriage. However, since it operated vertically, calling it an elevator was more appropriate.
Deadly Living Monkey smelled absolutely atrocious. Even though time was tight, Knife Cheng had to take him to wash up first; otherwise, the checkpoint for the Upper Hive wouldn't let him through at all.
Deadly Living Monkey only washed for five minutes before coming out. It felt like a layer of skin had been scrubbed off him, making him look even thinner.
"I actually look quite like a sage even when I'm old. It seems I really am a decent person by nature." Knife Cheng muttered to himself inwardly.
Because there was nowhere in the Underhive to buy decent clothes, Knife Cheng had to pay a high price to buy a very baggy suit from Slaanesh Nun number 88. As for where this suit came from... knowing too much makes you age quickly.
Wearing the loose, baggy suit, Deadly Living Monkey's gray hair covered the wrinkles and scars on his face, making him look more like an ordinary old man who might play chess at a street corner.
"Why do you want to go to the Upper Hive?"
It wasn't easy for people from the Mid-Hive or Underhive to go to the Upper Hive. Besides needing a resident of the Upper Hive to vouch for them, they also needed to provide a sufficient reason.
"The masters of the Upper Hive need bodyguards." Knife Cheng said truthfully, "This is the guarantee certificate."
Beneath the referral letter from the Jinmen Group were ten five-hundred-coin bills.
"Behave yourself and don't cause any trouble." Registration Clerk Cheng Yu smoothly swept the bills into his coat pocket, then stamped the "Permitted to Pass" steel seal onto Knife Cheng's pass.
"Old man, what about you?" Registration Clerk Cheng Yu looked at Deadly Living Monkey. Although he was a renowned thug in the Underhive, here in the Upper Hive, he was nothing more than a ragged old man on the fringes of society.
"Hmph, junior. When I was born, this Hive City didn't even exist yet." Deadly Living Monkey sneered disdainfully.
Registration Clerk Cheng Yu sneered back and picked up the "Access Denied" steel seal. Fortunately, Knife Cheng's "sincerity" made him change his mind.
"Senior, once we reach the Upper Hive, you'd better speak less." The elevator's floor numbers changed constantly. Because of the rapid ascent, the people in the carriage felt the G-force and had to slightly bend their knees to resist it.
Deadly Living Monkey kept his eyes slightly closed, turning a deaf ear, his hunched body standing as steady as a welcoming pine tree.
...
At the Jinmen Group headquarters, although the staff were busy, everything remained orderly.
The group's executives were either dead or disabled, and the others were locked up in detention centers.
Yet the group's business could still proceed normally because the group's accountant, Abacus Cheng, was still holding things together.
His official position was just a regular accountant, not even considered management, but in reality, all of the Jinmen Group's accounts and secrets were stored in Abacus Cheng's brain.
Abacus Cheng was the group's human computer.
His powerful brain capacity squeezed out his body's other functions, which was why he looked so frail.
His frame was as thin as a piece of paper, as if a gust of wind could knock him over.
He wore thick, bottle-bottom glasses, walked very slowly, but spoke very quickly.
Abacus Cheng didn't care about anything outside of the group's business.
Even though Knife Cheng and Deadly Living Monkey had been his bodyguards for a day and a half, he still hadn't looked at them properly... He probably considered them potted plants that followed him around; potted plants didn't count as fixed assets.
Knife Cheng didn't care about this or that; since you don't see me, I'll just steal your high-end cigarettes to smoke.
"There's killing intent!" Deadly Living Monkey suddenly roared.
Knife Cheng and Abacus Cheng each held a cigarette and completely ignored him. The old man roared this phrase eight times an hour; they just listened to it as a timekeeper.
"Abacus Cheng, your takeout!" Someone knocked on the door outside the accounting office.
"I didn't order takeout." Abacus Cheng didn't even lift his eyelids, still typing away with one finger to clear the accounts.
"I didn't order any either." Knife Cheng vigilantly pulled out the handgun from his waist and lay half-reclined on the floor, preparing to fire upwards.
"I ordered it!" Deadly Living Monkey laughed wickedly, then walked to the door to get the takeout. The old man was strangely polite at this moment, even knowing to tip the delivery person.
The old man dug into a portion of mutton and carrots, eating until his mouth was covered in grease, and the whole room was filled with the smell of mutton.
"There's killing intent!" After finishing, Deadly Living Monkey started his scheduled timekeeping again.
"Abacus Cheng, your takeout!" Someone knocked on the door outside the accounting office again.
"I didn't order takeout." Abacus Cheng was still tapping the keyboard.
"This old man didn't order any either." This time, it was Deadly Living Monkey who was on high alert.
"I ordered it!" Knife Cheng waved his hand sheepishly.
Opening the door, the delivery person this time was a petite beauty. Although her face was covered by a baseball cap, Knife Cheng instinctively felt she must be a beauty, so he blew a hooligan whistle as usual to show his respect.
"There's killing intent!" Deadly Living Monkey roared louder than ever this time.
"Kill, kill, kill... kill your head!" Knife Cheng spun around suddenly, just barely dodging the slash Blade Demon Cheng Yu suddenly aimed at his neck. "Old man, I've been tolerating you for a long time! You are so annoying!"
Abacus Cheng finally looked up this time. He was just focused on his work and couldn't be bothered with unrelated matters; it wasn't that he didn't have any perception of the outside world.
Seeing the gleaming machete in Cheng Yu's hand, Abacus Cheng immediately pressed the emergency button under his desk.
The Jinmen Group's emergency broadcast started immediately. "Dangerous intruder, repeat, dangerous intruder. Security personnel, please rush to the B1 area immediately. Security personnel, please rush to the B1 area immediately. Those who are late will have their performance bonus for this month deducted, and it will affect the year-end bonus coefficient, over."
"Ah..." Knife Cheng did a donkey roll, dodging Cheng Yu's follow-up slash, but a large gash was cut into his back. He looked just like a theme park worker about to take off their mascot costume.
