24: Chapter 24 Plenty of Dog Food

"Lu Huan, Zi Yi, Hangfei, Wenzhuo, stop for a moment and come introduce yourselves."

Upon hearing Huo Sixian's words, the four men immediately put down what they were doing, leaned the door against the wall, and came over to introduce themselves.

Watching this scene, Ye Qingqing was stunned. *Wait, why does this feel so awkward?*

As the four men walked over, each of them gave Ye Qingqing a military salute.

The first to speak was a buzz-cut Scarface. He looked fierce and menacing, and his voice matched his appearance: "Hello, I'm Lu Huan."

Ye Qingqing stood there dazed, but she still extended her right hand for a friendly, brief handshake.

The second person's introduction was similar to the first's, but his tone was more relaxed. He was even wearing a floral shirt and looked rather flamboyant: "Hello, I'm Kong Ziyi. You can just call me Zi Yi."

Ye Qingqing quickly offered her right hand. "Hello, hello. I'm Ye Qingqing."

"Hello, Qingqing. I'm Meng Hangfei." The third man looked quite conventional and spoke in a very upright manner. So far, Ye Qingqing had the best impression of him.

"Li Wenzhuo." The fourth man's tone was the flattest. Just like his name suggested, he looked quite scholarly.

Ye Qingqing wondered why the introductions were so formal. And what was with that military salute? They did it all in unison...

Could it be...

A question gradually formed in Ye Qingqing's mind.

While the four men went to install the door, Huo Sixian looked at Ye Qingqing with a sudden smile. "Don't be nervous. We're Retired Soldiers. We were originally assigned a mission to the military base, but when the Typhoon hit, we ran into some trouble, so we're staying at my place for now."

"Don't worry, we're not bad people."

Hearing Huo Sixian say they were Soldiers, Ye Qingqing couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

In her previous life, the people Ye Qingqing admired most were Soldiers. Because of the natural disasters, many people would do anything to survive.

But in the Post-Apocalyptic World, there was a group of people who feared neither hardship nor death, sacrificing everything—even their lives—to save the public.

Thus, Ye Qingqing held deep respect for Soldiers in her heart.

Ye Qingqing extended both hands to Huo Sixian again in a friendly gesture. "Hello. I'm sorry about what happened before."

However, the moment she said it, she immediately regretted it. By saying that, she was essentially admitting she had been afraid of them and suspected they were up to no good.

Consequently, her face couldn't help but turn red.

Huo Sixian didn't seem to mind, though. He shook her hand in return. "It's fine. I didn't consider things carefully before, which caused an unnecessary misunderstanding."

Looking at Huo Sixian, any misunderstanding was gone; now she just wanted to find a hole to crawl into.

"By the way, do you still have supplies? I see you're keeping a dog."

Hearing Huo Sixian's words, Ye Qingqing felt a strange pang of guilt. She nodded quickly. "There's enough, enough. I don't eat much alone, and as for Ah Huang, there's plenty of dog food. You already gave me a batch of supplies before."

Huo Sixian nodded at her words. "You did the right thing just now. Unreasonable people like that deserve a good lesson. This Typhoon is unusual. Have you thought about what will happen next?"

Huo Sixian's words were sincere, but Ye Qingqing didn't understand what he meant.

Seeing her confused expression, Huo Sixian quickly explained, "I mean, this Typhoon shows no sign of receding, and the water levels are still rising. Have you considered what you'll do later?"

Of course Ye Qingqing knew what to do, but she couldn't tell Huo Sixian. Even if he was a veteran, she wouldn't reveal her biggest secret to him.

"The flood should recede eventually, right?"

Ye Qingqing spoke without much conviction, but in this situation, she couldn't say anything else. The more she said, the more flaws there would be. After all, she was a girl who had rented two apartments and moved in right before the Post-Apocalyptic World arrived without buying any supplies.

If not for the box of supplies Huo Sixian had given her, she wouldn't even have found an excuse for how she'd survived all these days.

Huo Sixian gave Ye Qingqing a long look and said in a deep voice, "Let's hope so."

"It's getting late. I should head back."

After saying that, Ye Qingqing took Ah Huang and dashed back home in a flash.

However, standing at the door, Huo Sixian stared blankly at Ye Qingqing's departing figure. He didn't know why, but he had never felt like this before.

He had never felt such an urge to talk to a girl. Even the four men busy installing the iron door noticed something was off.

They began to whisper among themselves, "What do you think is wrong with Boss? It's like he's possessed."

Kong Ziyi shrugged. "Who knows? Looking at Boss, it's a miracle he didn't scare the girl away."

The others nodded in agreement, unaware that their conversation was being heard perfectly by Huo Sixian.

After all, the hallway was only so big, and their voices were so loud that it would be hard for Huo Sixian not to hear them.

By the sixth day, the water level had completely submerged the fifth floor.

Originally, Lin Wanrou and Fu Peisheng had planned to move to the 32nd floor yesterday. However, they hadn't managed to get a room and had even been beaten up by Ye Qingqing.

Fu Peisheng was extremely surprised because the Ye Qingqing in his memory was a very gentle person who never resorted to violence. What happened yesterday?

It was as if she had lived another life and become a completely different person. Fu Peisheng didn't recognize her at all.

Furthermore, Ye Qingqing actually dared to beat him like this. Fu Peisheng's heart was now filled with resentment toward her.

With the floods rising, let alone going to a hospital to bandage his wounds, not a single person could be seen outside.

So, there was no one to treat Fu Peisheng's hand. The meager amount of medicine they had was traded for by Lin Wanrou yesterday using the last Self-heating mini hotpot in the house.

If it were before, Lin Wanrou wouldn't have believed that a single Self-heating mini hotpot could be traded for medicine.

Because the building had now essentially become a primitive society based on bartering.

After Fu Peisheng and Lin Wanrou's home was submerged, they, like the people on the third and fourth floors, moved into the upstairs hallways. Originally, Lin Wanrou had wanted to go find that Rich heir from the first floor.
