62: Chapter 62 is about recognizing a master.
Ah Huang stood to the side, feeling a bit speechless. He looked at Ye Qingqing and then at Xu Xueke, shaking his head involuntarily.
Ah Huang thought to himself, 'Fortunately, this Lord Dog chose a good master. If I had followed that Xu Xueke, I might have been killed by that idiot long ago.'
"Hey, have you finished discussing? I'm going back to sleep."
Ye Qingqing was truly getting impatient. Naturally, she wasn't afraid of Xu Xueke; she just found it absurd that she might have to leave the Warship so soon after finally managing to board it.
She had originally wanted to enjoy a few days of leisure, but that seemed impossible now.
"You unfilial daughter! You're picking fights and causing trouble on this ship; do you know what the consequences will be?!"
"Yesterday, your lack of filial piety toward your mother was one thing, but today you're still being so stubborn!"
"When will you ever be even half as sensible as your younger brother!"
Ye Shanhai's voice was very loud, once again attracting the surrounding survivors to stop and watch.
However, these survivors clearly recognized Xu Xueke and even seemed to fear her.
Therefore, none of them dared to step forward or get close.
Ye Qingqing felt utterly speechless. It was only the second day, and she was being stared at like a monkey for the second time.
Even if they weren't embarrassed, Ye Qingqing was embarrassed for them.
Ye Qingqing folded her arms across her chest. "Are you going to get lost on your own, or should I make you get lost?"
"Ye Qingqing! Do you know who I am?! Believe it or not, I can have you thrown off this ship to feed the fish in a matter of minutes!"
Listening to Xu Xueke's voice, Ye Qingqing impatiently scratched her ear. "I believe you, I believe you, I believe everything. You're capable, you're the strongest, alright?"
"You!" Xu Xueke was so infuriated by Ye Qingqing's indifferent attitude that her whole body was trembling.
Just then, a magnetic and deep voice rang out from behind the crowd.
Xu Xueke reacted immediately, quickly tidying her clothes.
Ye Qingqing even saw with her own eyes as Xu Xueke pinched her own thigh, forcing out a few tears.
Ye Qingqing was stunned; she had truly never seen a Miss Jiao Jiao reveal her schemes so blatantly.
Huo Sixian was wearing a tight camouflage tank top paired with cargo pants and a pair of black boots.
A jacket was draped lazily over his wrist, making him look relaxed and casual.
The black leather boots emphasized Huo Sixian's incredibly long legs.
"What is everyone doing?"
"Brother Si Yan!"
"This woman is bullying me!"
With a sob in her voice, Xu Xueke ran to Huo Sixian's side, her delicate hands about to clasp onto his arm.
Huo Sixian looked at Xu Xueke and stepped straight past her, not giving her any chance to grab his arm.
Huo Sixian walked up to Ye Qingqing and looked her up and down.
"What happened?"
Feeling Huo Sixian's gaze, Ye Qingqing subconsciously frowned, unable to figure out what game he was playing.
Ah Huang was completely confused, wagging his tail as he tried to nuzzle up to Huo Sixian.
But before he could get close, Ah Huang heard Huo Sixian's cold voice.
"You took a liking to a dog like this? And brought people here to cause trouble over it?"
Ah Huang didn't understand. What did he mean by 'a dog like this'? Didn't Huo Sixian like him quite a bit before?
He had even secretly fed him treats, fearing Ye Qingqing wouldn't be able to afford to keep him. So why was he like this now...
Hearing Huo Sixian's words, a quiet smile played on the corners of Xu Xueke's mouth. "Brother Si Yan, I just really like this dog."
"You know, I used to have a dog too, but when the zombies came, it actively shielded me and died. Now I don't have a dog anymore."
"Brother Si Yan, why don't you give that dog to me, okay?"
Ye Qingqing called Ah Huang back, watching Huo Sixian and Xu Xueke coldly from the side.
She didn't know what Huo Sixian's current angle was, so she chose to wait and see what he would do.
Listening to Xu Xueke, a flash of impatience crossed Huo Sixian's eyes, but he showed nothing on his face, only looking coldly at Ah Huang.
After a long while, he slowly spoke. "That dog of yours—did it really block the zombies itself, or did you push it?"
Hearing this, Xu Xueke's eyes instantly widened. "Brother Si Yan, you..."
Huo Sixian suddenly smiled. A smile curled his lips, but Ye Qingqing felt it was quite cold. "Of course, I believe Miss Xueke. It's just that dogs, well, they recognize their owners."
"This dog is old, ugly, and looks like it eats a lot. Even if you take it, it won't listen to you."
"Why bother? Besides, have you forgotten your father's words? This is the Post-Apocalyptic World, not the past. Everything must follow the rules."
Hearing Huo Sixian's words, Xu Xueke was dissatisfied, but she still nodded obediently. "Brother Si Yan... I understand."
"But this woman hit me. Brother Si Yan, you have to stand up for me."
Xu Xueke's voice was dainty as she pulled on Huo Sixian's arm, swaying back and forth.
If it were anyone else, they might have been captivated by her.
But a flash of impatience crossed Huo Sixian's eyes. With a hint of coldness in his tone, he unobtrusively withdrew his hand.
Looking at Xu Xueke, his voice carried a sense of distance. "Miss Xueke, you are the daughter of the Chief on this Warship. I cannot make decisions for you."
"Brother Si Yan..."
"However, Miss Xueke, this ship has its rules. As far as I know, this young lady only boarded yesterday. Today is only her second day. I imagine she wouldn't actively provoke you; in fact, she probably doesn't even know who you are."
Huo Sixian's words seemed fine on the surface, but only Xu Xueke knew that he was reminding her to mind her status and not bring shame to the Chief.
"Brother Si Yan, I understand."
Huo Sixian gave a faint grunt of affirmation from his nose.
Then he looked at Ye Qingqing and slowly walked up to her. "This lady, I apologize for the fright you've received."
Ye Qingqing looked at Huo Sixian. Although she didn't know what he was up to, at the very least, he had solved a troublesome matter for her.
This meant she could continue staying on the ship, provided Xu Xueke didn't hold a grudge.
Ye Qingqing looked at Huo Sixian with an expressionless face. "I wasn't frightened. I just hope this kind of thing doesn't happen again. I only want to live my own life."
But Ah Huang was different. He had heard everything!
That Huo Sixian said he was old! Ugly! And ate too much!
Every single word, he, Ah Huang, had heard them all!
