242: Chapter 242 The Bodyguard is Attacked
The road for an escort was long and dusty.
Ye Tianyao followed the caravan forward. It had been over a year since his family sent him to learn from He Sanguo, and he had already mastered the spear techniques.
He wondered when his father would arrange for him to Cultivate the family's secret methods and step onto the path of Immortal cultivation.
As he was thinking this, the carriage beneath him jolted, and the caravan ahead suddenly came to a halt.
Ye Tianyao immediately opened his eyes and looked ahead. What caught his attention more than the scenery was the smell of blood.
"Don't get off the carriage! Stay alert!"
He Sanguo's terrified voice rang out. Following his Senior Brothers' gaze, Ye Tianyao saw that the Courier Station where they were supposed to rest was now covered in blood. The waiter, with half his body missing, lay on the threshold, his eyes wide open in a deathly stare.
"This... what on earth is going on?!"
The merchant owner transporting the goods was also scared out of his wits by the scene.
Seeing the uncertain situation of the shop, He Sanguo immediately shouted, "Go! This is no place to linger. Let's go!"
Just as he finished speaking, two dark figures suddenly darted out from the shop and blocked their path.
After landing, they were revealed to be two monks, one thin and one fat. Blood was still dripping from their mouths as they let out eerie, chilling laughs at the Escort Guards.
"To think some snacks would deliver themselves to our door!"
The fat monk among them had large ears and a bloated face, with a string of Buddhist beads hanging around his neck. His eyes were filled with greed, showing none of the demeanor expected of a man of the cloth.
Most notably, their bodies were emitting spiritual light.
Seeing this, He Sanguo's heart tightened instantly. These two were Immortals!
He immediately knelt down and cried out humbly to the two, "Sirs Immortals, we are but ordinary Mortals on an escort mission. We only beg for your mercy to spare our lives!"
As soon as he spoke, the group of Escort Guards, merchants, and carriage drivers behind him all knelt down in a row, their bodies shaking like sieves.
There was a world of difference between a Mortal and an Immortal.
Furthermore, these two monks were covered in blood and exuded a heaven-shaking murderous aura. They were not compassionate high monks who saved people, but rather looked like man-eating demons.
Ye Tianhao gripped the Silver-poled Spear in his hand. He was still just a Mortal; he had no chance of winning against them.
He hadn't yet waited for his father to pass down the family's secret methods, nor had he stepped onto the path of Immortal cultivation. He could not die at this desolate Courier Station.
The thin monk smiled sinisterly and flicked a wisp of gray Qi from his fingertip. It coiled directly around the nearest Escort Guard. Without even a scream, the guard's body instantly shriveled up, falling to the ground as a withered corpse, his Blood Qi completely drained by the gray Qi.
"Mortal wealth is nothing but filth in the eyes of us Cultivators."
The fat monk licked the blood from the corner of his mouth. The Buddhist beads swayed with his movements, making his fat face look even more hideous.
"However, your essence and Blood Qi are of great benefit to our cultivation of the Blood Fiend Zen Palace. Since you've come to us, you might as well all stay!"
The merchant owner was so scared he soiled himself. He collapsed on the ground, wailing, "Immortal, spare me! Immortal, spare my life! I have elders and children to support, I beg the Immortal to show mercy—"
"Mercy?"
The thin monk's eyes turned cold. With a flash of his figure, he appeared before the merchant owner, his hand turning into a sharp claw about to gouge out his heart.
"It is your honor to be eaten by us. Is that not mercy?"
"Stop!"
A loud shout suddenly erupted. Ye Tianyao took a fierce step forward, his Silver Spear instantly unsheathed, the tip pointing directly at the thin monk's back.
Though he was only a Mortal, he had refined his spear techniques for over a year. The sound of the spear carried a sharp whistle as it tore through the air, aiming straight for the opponent's vital points, showing no fear of the Cultivator's pressure.
He Sanguo's face turned pale as he roared sharply, "Ye Tianyao! Do not be reckless! Fall back!"
He knew clearly that no matter how strong a Mortal was, they were like ants before an Immortal. Striking out now was simply seeking death.
The thin monk turned his head upon hearing this, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, which then turned into deep mockery.
"Oh? A mere Mortal dares to attack a Cultivator? You truly don't know the height of the heavens. Fine, I'll use you, a tender-skinned boy, as an appetizer!"
The fat monk also stepped aside, crossing his arms to watch the show.
"Junior Brother, don't kill him too quickly. This boy has strong bones and muscles; his essence must be richer than others. Enjoy him well."
Ye Tianyao gritted his teeth, his Blood Qi surging, his spear tip as steady as Mount Tai.
He knew his chances of winning were slim, but waiting for death was a dead end. Even if the opponent was an Immortal, he had to fight for a glimmer of hope.
His peripheral vision caught a flickering spiritual light fluctuation in the corner of the Courier Station, and his heart jumped.
These two evil monks didn't seem to be without flaws.
In the next second, the thin monk charged forward, his claws carrying a foul wind straight for Ye Tianyao's throat. The spiritual light coiling around them was enough to easily tear through steel.
Ye Tianyao executed a subtle footwork, his body like a willow catkin in the wind as he barely dodged. He swept his Silver Spear in a counter-attack, the tip grazing the opponent's arm.
With extreme speed, he actually managed to leave a shallow white mark on that spiritual light protection!
Stung by the pain, the thin monk's face instantly turned dark. "You seek death!"
A dense explosion of Blood Fiend spiritual light erupted, trapping Ye Tianyao completely. A suffocating pain instantly swept through his entire body.
Ye Tianyao was now unable to move; he felt as if his entire body was about to be crushed.
"Immortal! My disciple is ignorant and has offended the Immortal. I beg you to show mercy!"
He Sanguo pleaded in a panic.
The fat monk salivated and grabbed He Sanguo's arm. "So noisy! I'm starving! I'll eat you first!"
"Master!"
Immobilized by the spiritual power, Ye Tianyao could only watch helplessly as his master was about to be eaten by the monk.
He gritted his teeth. Damn it!
Suddenly, just as the fat monk was about to devour He Sanguo, a clear breeze flashed by.
Before anyone could react to what happened, the fat monk's hand gripping He Sanguo froze. Before everyone's eyes, that hand suddenly severed, and He Sanguo fell to the ground.
The fat monk felt his arm lighten, completely unaware of what had occurred. When a dense, stinging pain swept through his body, he immediately screamed out.
"Who! Who is it?! Ahhh!"
The arrogance on the thin monk's face instantly froze, replaced by fear. Just which powerful Cultivator had made a move? They hadn't sensed a thing.
In an instant, there was no sound here except for the fat monk's pig-like screams.
For a moment, the entire scene fell silent.
"Whoosh, whoosh..." Another breeze blew, and the spiritual power binding Ye Tianyao was sliced open.
The sound was heard, but no one was seen.
The fat monk clutched his gushing arm and shrieked, "Which Senior is here! If we have offended you, please show mercy!"
"Heh, show mercy?" A cold laugh came unexpectedly.
The fat and thin monks felt a series of chilly winds behind them, scaring them so much their hair stood on end.
Without them knowing when, an old man had appeared behind them, holding a blade pointed at them.
"Spa—" Before the two monks could finish their plea, the old man raised his blade. Their heads instantly fell to the ground. The speed was so fast that no one present dared to make a move.
He Sanguo didn't dare to look up, feeling incredibly unlucky. He was just on a simple escort mission and encountered such man-eating Immortals. Now he didn't know if this newcomer was good or bad.
The old man looked ordinary, holding a large blade in one hand, yet he had killed those two monks in an instant.
"You don't need to be afraid; I won't hurt you," the old man said calmly as he directly took the two monks' Storage Pouches.
This made the people stand up tremblingly, their faces full of fear.
Among them, Ye Tianyao stood up and saw the old man looking at him with a gentle expression. In a flash of realization, he tentatively tried to speak, "Grand—"
"Cough! Where are you all headed?" The old man coughed, interrupting Ye Tianyao's attempt.
Ye Tianyao understood immediately. It was indeed his grandfather.
